Tamiya Mitsubishi Pajero - kit number 58044 (1984) | Chassis Restoration

  • In this video I restore the chassis for the Tamiya Mitsubishi Pajero from 1984, kit number 58044. I had to glue a few parts of the chassis that had been cut or broken. Most of the drivetrain is replaced with re-release Grasshopper parts. In all I think it will be a great runner, although not 100% period correct. Enjoy!
    Thanks for watching.

      G'day Brad! That's awesome. I actually saw your Super Hotshot unboxing on Tank RC, that's gonna fly with that motor! I thought about your motor shaft issue too, maybe you can use a motor spacer and longer screws instead of cutting the shaft or drilling the gearbox. Just a though..
      The Fighting Buggy will be a really nice build, you're gonna love that one.
      No probs at all mate, I'm glad you were able to get a couple of kits. The RC Elf is a great guy and has helped a lot of people, huge thumbs up to him! 👍

    Nice job again Mick, this will look great. The wheels look good with the lettering . I have to learn how to do this . I've been taping up the sand scorcher body , what a headache . Was just going to be a white herbie but it's too nice not to do the box art. I'm sure I knew a kid who had one these pajeros, so long ago and can't remember. Looks like a fun beast. I better not use the 3.5 turn in the VQS . Don't want to blow the diffs , got a 10.5 turn coming. I heard he diffs in the Dark impact are weak so I'll find something mild for that to. Nice work mate, have a good one.

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. The tyre letting is quite easy. I use a UNI paint pen, PX21 (1.2mm) for tyres like this and PX203 (0.8mm) for tyres with fine print.
      Oh yeah, those Sand Scorcher paint jobs can be time consuming. I agree, you just gotta go box art on the Scorcher... Unless you have more than one of course 😉😂.
      I think the VQS will be great running the 10.5, yeah I think a 3.5 might be asking for trouble. I think maybe a 12.5 or so in the Dark Impact would be good.
      Thanks mate, you too! 👍

    Not only a great job of restoration - with a PAIL of JB Weld (!!!!), but you've inspired me to try to sorta relive me third RC, bought in 1985...
    I've always considered attempting that Chazzie - by using a Lunchie Tub and Grasshopper bits around it. Besides that funky front Body Mount, this IS now a possibility!! 😁
    I SUPPOSE (because an original Body is practically impossible), maybe a Jimny or VW Type 2 Bus Body in Lexan - and like you, Brat Wheels and Tyres!
    Your thoughts??
    Obviously yours is more of a serious restoration, and mine would be a whimsical look back to when I wasn't so old and ugly... But thanks to this Video, it seems like an actual idea! 😊
    THANKS!!

    • @RCHobbyShed
      @RCHobbyShed  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. Lol pail of JB Weld 🤣.
      Yeah that will work. You will need to use Grasshopper rear suspension parts if you want it like the original. Otherwise you may not be able to have the battery in the tray at the top since the Lunch Box/ Pumpkin shock shafts will hit the battery. The front is a little different too, you but I think you'll be able to leave the front (Lunch Box) shock bodies off it though and maybe use a spacer above the spring... I'm sure you'll work it out. 👍
      Tonys Tamiya LTD in the UK have the Montero body in their eBay store, it's the same as the Pajero body. So you should be able to put one together to relive your young and pretty youth 😂.
      Glad you got some ideas from the video, now go for it! Cheers mate. 👍

      I was thinking Oil Shocks anyway, so LONG Screws poking up wouldn't be a problem.
      This might be a naff little Truck, but there's still that Cool Factor and invaluable Nostalgia, that only Tamiya can give.

      The Pajero chassis is unique to the Pajero although they are very similar. A few differences are the steering servo position, front suspension mounts are sunken on the Pajero, no body mount at the front of the chassis on the Lunch Box/Pumpkin chassis, Pajero has no holes in the rear battery tray for shock shafts.. and so on. 👍
