When you've been to as many clubs as I have, you're bound to have peed next to some artist at an adjacent urinal. I've peed next to two, Trane being one of them. (That was, as I recall, at Birdland.) The other was George Carlin. TMI? Caught Trane live more times than I recall. Same with Miles, whom I eventually met. Caught Billie Holiday live just once and in the final year of her life at the smallest of clubs in New Jersey. That'd be Sugar Hill in Newark. She even sat with me and my two fellow musicians, me being just fifteen at the time. See, there are certain advantages to my being 83, the people I got to see, hear, and sometimes meet. Memories are made of these.
Not only are you a hip cat, but you are 83 and technologically savy! Kudos Freddy!
@@jacobpelletier1735 Thanks much. So refreshing being considered more than merely just "old" on occasion. :)
The first ten words are about as dodgy an opening as you are going to get. Luckily you then drop a great bombshell, I didn't see that coming. I can't think with this racket going on, but basically : - thanks for your comment, it's surprisingly effective at bringing the guy and the scene to life. P.S. I had a typo there and put " scent " instead of " scene " - given the circumstances, perhaps that would be just as accurate ?
@@PIPEHEADThanks for catching the spirit in which I wrote it. I've published a dozen novels, and so I might have gleaned a thing or several about writing effectively. :)
@@freddymaf7754 For sure. You may be amused to hear that I looked up George Carlin in case he was hip. I didn't read any of it beyond the word " comedian " I confess, but I suspect he never existed outside of the states, however hip he may have been. The only jazz man of any repute I have ever seen is John McLaughlin, but I think Billy Cobham probably makes that two. I didn't have my own Coltrane phase till I was forty, but that's still quite a while ago ............................
First heard this in the 80's on a rare lp. After Trane's astonishing solo and McCoy's wonderful playing enter Elvin Jones. Could any mortal play and make it sound like thunder? Elvin absolutely 💯 energy! When Trane comes back in and joins him it's ecstatic!!! Marvelous music!
The level of talent from this quartet is the pinnacle of mankind’s potential.
Saint John Coltrane 🙏
Absolutely
You may know this, but there is a Saint John Coltrane Church in San Francisco.
@@apedreus They're going too far though.
"Alabama", such a beautiful song.
Very meaningful given the reason for its inception
I don’t know anywhere to hear great music like this in person. But we can still enjoy this recording
Try with Joe McPhee
Plenty of jazz clubs around, but you're also right that you can't really hear anything like this anymore. That's mostly because of the greatness of these players. All of them were really special.
Toronto has a current scene of experimental saxophone... Ways + Toldam, Rob Clutton band. I used to go to a club called Amsterdam bar in Dallas, and the UNT jazz bands were on this level. They would wail, take a break at 1130, and then play another set. I should look up who was in that rotation of musicians around 2006-2009.
The Jazz scene in Yorkshire is pretty poor. That can change and TH-cam is perfect for future musicians and children.
@@PhilipStringer-tq1zi I believe you! Do you immerse yourself in the Copenhagen/Amsterdam jazz scenes? I have tried to get into that more. Maybe those musicians will pass through the UK.
🚆, Garrison, Tyner, Jones. A dream made in Heaven.❤🎉😊
Creation is indescribable. No meta necessary or sufficient.
No meta necessary or sufficient. so very nicely put if I may say so
As much as i love jazz, i always get mad when someone says that was the greatest performance or these are the greatest musians. Jazz, (rythmn and sound) is as vast and massive and varying as all the grains of sands on this planet. Just because you experience a few does not mean they are the best or greatest. But coast to coast is certainly SOME 20:57 of the greatest rythmn and sound i have heard.
Wow. Guy seems possessed with the rhythm like he has become music himself. Not sure if that beauty can be taught, but rather felt. The pianist drummer and bassist are moving at a feverish pace.
"Creation" is amazing with this short crude repeated motive . Famous for me.
He make evolve the riff as a plant
I can't believe he passed away due to suffering from cancer. That's sad! he was such a talented man.
Back in 1966 they didn’t have the level of cancer Killing technology that’s available these days. Very sad :(
Tremendous John Coltrane 🎷
John Coltrane's music makes the earth gently shake. 12:34

Nice time stamp I agree .. the opening is awesome too .. lovely bass solo .
I’ve just completed an arduous struggle with a damaged guitar I’m renovating .. this record went so well with all the tortured solo work of John Coltrane to help me through that stressful repair job .. finally finished just before the recording finished .. am very pleased with the results .. and this record in particular .. 💗💙💗
Ciagle.zywy .kochany John coltrane
Artist supreme
Yeah, I dig this. Thanks John.
Three little girls and church... the gospel of John
Amazing
En todo momento Coltrane me aporta ese maná que ayuda a traspasar tedio y marasmo
It has to be damn hard to jam out on a stand-up bass the way this guy is doing. Impressive
...immense as an ancient prophecy
Coltrane is the Vate/Poet of Kali-yuga
He's hitting on all chakrahs!!!!!!!!!
Thank you, thank you very much.
I've been listening Coltrane for long...I didn't know this tack. Great

This is beautiful.
Sheer beauty!
Me dio un viaje al pasado, me reí mucho de mí , gracias Juan coltrain
Went to find(and buy)this cd/lp-but found it is unavailable due to it not being an official or authorized release-and from what I can see this is the only place you or I, will ever get to hear this album(or is it a cd?)in it's entirety; what a shame but at the same time, glad that "Neurozer" made this available to the public-or the world, or us to hear this music.
Thank you Mr.(or is it Miss/Mrs.?)Neurozer for putting the contents of this music on TH-cam, for the whole world to now hear it-and hopefully, sometime soon, it will made available for anyone that wishes to, to purchase it-hopefully. 11-17-23.
Wow. Just wow
Ragazzi è musica di altro pianeta, c'è anima e cuore.
Oggi... lasciamo stare.
Un saluto ai grandi intenditori.
Olá, estou ouvindo essa obra diretamente do Brasil
The best, irraggiungibile ❤
Thanks man!
Well Trane was one of a kind but actually he took bebop to the next level and other saxophonist were after the same thing. Trane was a giant in a different more modern way than Bird. I don’t make comparisons. I appreciate both.
The gospel of John
I always thought Bird played more along the melody. I personally think it’s because he played with big bands before going solo and playing bebop.
This is a good philosophy for music, works in a genre represent collaboration more than competition
Great 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃!)

I always recognize Alabama. The music that wasn’t intended to exist
Came here to hear what cool was
when l was born in 64.
John the Revelator ................................
Nobody blows the saxophone like Trane, and Parker.
Se parece mucho a la musica que nos ponian en el cielo
❤
wonder if I have stood where that photo was taken. Looks like it could be in Fort Funston.
the first minute sounds so crazy holy shit
dope
