    I just got the 1046 Quad compressor and im loving it so far. Put some stereo drums and piano thru it just making 2-3db of compression...oh boy! That thing bring both to life. Being a bedroom producer and using compressors plugins most of the time I can really tell you theres nothing like analog compression. It sounds so smooth if you want...or so aggressive if thats what you looking for...but the way it does it its amazing . Im loving this little box and looking forward to get the 166xl comp/limiter. Just to have more control over attack and release. Great video and great explanation of the this units. Thanks for this . 👍🏽

    How would you bypass the gate function and only use the rack as a compressor, just turn the knobs all the way up?

    Wow thanks! Very informative information!, I'm no audiophile! But I think I understood what you were explaining! How dbx 266xl works! Just bought one at the Goodwill. I call it the thunder dome! Now they no longer sort items out, just throw them into bins on wheels and let you go at it! But picked a total of 38 lbs of items you pay by the pound and the dbx comp/gate was one of the items! Needs a couple of replacement knobs but otherwise seems to in working order? Now I have some basic knowledge? I need to figure out how hook it up into my system! You do audio stuff and linux? Sounds like you might be the right person to go through and explain all the LADSPA fx that come with LMMS. I figured out the ones that seem obvious enough (I even found a way to make talking soung like a robot), but over half are hard to figure out and there's practically no documentation on any of them. They must have some uses if they were worth including, but I suspect many people like myself have no idea where to begin.

    • @EzeeLinux
      @EzeeLinux  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not up my street ata ll... I do analog audio turntable,s tape decks and so forth and I'm not familiar with what you're talking about at all. :)

    • @pauljs75
      @pauljs75 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      LMMS is mostly soft synths, but knobs and functions are based on hardware like the one you're showing here. Certainly there has to be some way to compare and analyze how they function based on that. Even if you don't play with synths the sample track still pushes through .WAV or .OGG audio that can be channeled to the FX mixer.
      If LMMS isn't quite your thing, perhaps show how some things work under Audacity which also has LADSPA support.
      In terms of Audacity it seems most TH-cam shows one or two ways of normalization and doesn't go into depth past that. Yet there's still over a dozen compressors that aren't explained.
      And it seems like it'd be interesting to compare software audio processing to analog hardware just to see how well it compares. (At least if you have the hardware comparable in function to the FX.)
      One of the cool things is that the LADSPA stuff is FOSS. Means that any decent laptop may be able to do some of the things that it would have taken 1000's of dollars of gear to do back in the 80's and 90's. How well it does it is still one of those things up to question. (And it's digital trying to reproduce stuff that was originally analog.) LADSPA documentation is still pretty thin other than people like myself randomly playing around. I still think there needs to be more videos by people that know the general basis of what it's supposed to do.
