      Yes! Also a video about how to learn words specific to your work field in the language your studying would be cool! You mention that you listen to podcast about desing in the languages you learn, can you recomend some?(maybe in korean or Japanese)

    Can you do a video on how you do language exchanges? Do you have a preset topic with your partner, or do you have games you play? Or do you just show up and talk about whatever is on your mind? With a tutor, they always have something interesting or different to make it more challenging. But with my partners, most of the time we talk with nothing in particular, and sometimes I don't feel I get enough out of them. Thanks!

    • @AmbassadorSoriano
      @AmbassadorSoriano 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Victória Régia Pires :) I think I would cry tears of sadness if I had to do that. I speak French and Spanish with my exchange partner. In general, we talk about what we have been doing each week, and how we love to confuse all our languages. On Mondays, it is, "I wanted to say ___ in Spanish, but I could only think of the French word." Then on Thursdays it's the opposite. "I wanted to say ___ in French, but I could only think of the Spanish word."

  • @GarnetsWeb
    @GarnetsWeb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I second Francis' comment! Whenever I go on language exchange websites, it's one or both of these problems: 1. The person mostly wants to chat (which happens to be like, 90% English), and that's fine for the beginning, but after 5-7 days, the conversation should be primarily about the target language. 2. The native speaker will give warranted critiques on pronunciation, but very poor tips on actually improving it. If this isn't out of your convenience, I'd love to see a "101" on language exchange

    • @GarnetsWeb
      @GarnetsWeb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jazmine9570 Oh yes! Being a native speaker, we all absorbed language from those around us. Schooling refined our skills, but at the end of the day it was picked up naturally over time. So unless we're professionally taught, it's still difficult to explain something that we know naturally, especially muscle memory in our mouths. What I'm saying is, if you're going to go on a language exchange app and tell me I'm saying the word wrong, I want you to tell me what position your mouth is in when you say it as a native speaker. Don't tell me I'm wrong and leave me with that, I want to know how to correct it. If I hear someone say "fh" instead of "th," I don't want to tell them that's wrong without also telling them what position my mouth is in to correctly make the "th" sound. Hopefully that clears up what I meant! 😄

    Hi Lindie. I'm not (yet) into language learning (I'd like to improve my english and I'm not even doing that, sadly) and I'm not a fervid social user (I'm not so young anymore!) But I just wanted you to know that I stumbled upon your smile on youtube and your face makes me a little less miserable in hard days. You radiate kindness, I don't know how to put this in word (especially in english words!)... Thank you from italy (oh, sometimes your expressions remind me of la gioconda, did everyone already tell you that?). Have a great life, girl!

    Hungarian, for some reason never has appealed to me to learn. I don’t think because it’s hard because I learn Russian and it’s very difficult! But I love it! However, Hungarian never caught my interest. I wouldn’t mind learning Finnish someday though. It sounds closer to a “true Uralic “ language than Hungarian. Well, because Hungarian has been influenced more because the were part of the Austrian- Hungarian Empire so, probably more German and Baltic languages have influenced it.

    I am genuinely curious.. why Singapore? This career can be done anywhere in the world, I wonder what led you to Singapore as it doesn't seem you have any ties there

    Maybe it's a weird question and a bit offtopic, but I can't unsee it.... at 13:05 there is a bible page with passages in Japanese... and I can't figure ot one hiragana character... eg. in line 34, it's the first character...?

      I think it's い aka "i" but the font is a little funky

      @@Zu-zu Thanks; that was my only guess, but it seemed to not match the words... but looking at it with fresh eye - that must be it. Somehow I forgot that いったい is a word :)

    Hi Lindie,
    got a question for you. As an IT professional keeping up with your IT career and study multiple languages at the same time, how do you do it? I work in IT security, but I'm also like to study ancient Greek and Latin, as well as Indonesian (my wife is indonesian, so I want to learn Indonesian), but I also want to further my career in IT security (learning new tech, getting additional certs, keeping up with IT security news), but feel like the languages distract me from studying IT security tech material and vice a versa. Any tips/advice? Thank you.

    Lovely video! Do you work in Singapore for a company over there? Or do you work for a company in a different country?
