I use strap bindings with the highbacks taken off. TLT 7s no toe welt. I also use Dynafit toe AND heal bindings. The strap bindings help with lateral flex. I stay in walk mode and use the power strap to stiffen the forward/backward flex. The tighter I tighten the power strap the stiffer the forward flex. I made a Splitboard with sidecut on both sides in ski mode. An insert fills the gap I snowboard mode. I need a proper heal lock for slightly downhill sidestepping traverses.
Hi Will thanks for all the good infos on your channel. I've been a hardbooting snowboarder for decades now, only used alpine carving board. I was looking to start splitboarding and I'd love to have a hard boot setup. Boots are not a problem, in fact when we started ages ago hard boots for snowboarding were the same as AT skiing boots. But on hasrd boot bindings that work on splitboards there seem to be very little information out there. What would be some other options besides the one you linked in the description?
As is! they ride great and gain some flex over time. I ride my back boot pretty loose with the power strap also loose and that helps a ton with flex and lateral flex fyi!
I've been using the Salmon MTN Explore for split boarding the last two seasons and couldn't be happier. Thanks for the great info!

Are the hard boots special made for splitboard or do you use freeskiers boots?
How is the ride down with the Salomon X-ALP? Did you find them stiff in the cuff? Any mod done?
Nice set up !
Don't you use a leach in downhill mode ?
Swapping over to hardboots for my split setup - just picked up a pair of proclines. Did you make any mods to your x-alps or do you ride them as-is?

wait you are saying hardboots are lighter than softboots???
its a fact.
Hard at boots are wayyyyyy lighter than the lightest soft boots! They can be feather light.
Yep. By a lot. And they're way better for ascents than softboots when splitboarding as well.
