Thanks for making this available to watch outside of your Patreon communities! And interesting and 'foreign' topic for me. As an international (Dutch) booktube watcher, book subscriptions are not a thing at all where I live. And so up until now I often tend to skip the ads and content surrounding them. 😅

Thank you for making this available to everyone! It was nice to watch my two “go-to/must watch” TH-camrs at the same time. Looking forward to next episode! 😊

I personally only have Illumicrate and I want to read the ones I get but I tend to not read from the pretty editions I tend to try to get them from the library to actually read them. 🤣 But I do read most of the books I own...I think I'm at like 75-80% read. OMG the bookbox resell market is out of control, I hate it so much. I think it's probably been 50/50 for me on the books I have read that were picked by Illumicrate as far as enjoyment.

Thank you for making this available to everyone. This was such a great topic, you covered so much and I have SO many opinions LOL. I think to Elle's point about accessibility and being very privileged to own books and pretty/fancy copies of books, that's part of the problem for me with a lot of these book boxes. Books should be available to everyone - even the pretty copies.
I don't like when people buy things for the sole purpose of reselling them for a profit - I don't like it with books, I don't like it with thrift store stuff, etc. And it contributes to the rising prices of things because when the thrift stores (or book publishers, or whatever) see that others can get x dollars for the item instead, then of course they're going to start charging more, making things even less accessible.
The Barnes & Noble special editions - I haven't seen any of the new really nice ones yet, but I'm glad to hear that they're starting to do that. Because the ones I have seen with "an extra chapter" or "an interview with the author's childhood friend" (that one I made up for the ridiculousness of it LOL) or whatever are just not what I'm interested in. GIVE ME THE PRETTY COVERS LOL - Give EVERYONE the pretty covers!! And also STOP putting the permastickers on the books!!! If you're going to put a sticker on the cover indicating that it's a special edition - make it removable!!
I had more, but this is all my brain can handle right now. I really appreciate this video and how you both handled this topic. You each had such great input. Thank you again.

Book boxes are made for people in the US and UK, and to a lesser extent the northern hemisphere. Shipping to Australia is usually very close to the price of the box itself

I'm subscribed to Fairyloot adult, illumicrate, and owlcrate adult and middle grade (I skip middle grade majority of the time). I'm really proud to say that this year I've gotten my TBR to under 10 books, and I think I'm very good about reading what comes into my home. That being said, now that my TBR is so small I feel significantly less pressure to read my subscription books if they're part of a series. I don't want to wait an entire year for the sequel, so it almost makes me want to put them off for a bit.

I love seeing the special editions when youtubers do unboxings. I don't care enough about owning the beautiful editions (i get most mine used from library sales) but i love seeing the artwork.

I am really glad you made this available to everyone. Loved this vid. So interesting as someone that has been debating belonging to book subscriptions

This is wonderful.. look forward to these in the future. I don’t currently subscribe to book boxes. I’ve been on the waitlist for fairyloot adult but no luck so far. I’m leaning more toward my kindle lately ..my bookshelves are getting full lol. I also can read longer on my kindle now as my eyes age.

Thanks for the great chat! I would be interested in the spoiler sites/ pages for Fairyloot adult and Illumicrate. I've been doing some digging but not really finding anything firm. Much speculation though. Have a great day!!

I unsubscribed from Fairyloot Adult because Waterstones are doing such a good job with their special editions

Omg if water stones didn’t have such expensive international shipping, I would get all my special editions from there haha! They are doing an amazing job!

I don't mind sponsorships, my only issue with Book of the Month is that they don't let the creators put in their own spin into the add, every one has to say the same exact thing so it gets old quick
