Thanks Nancy for the very informative video....very helpful for those of us who are newbies at metalworking jewelry. I look forward to your sharing more of your expertise. :)
Speaking of rivets, I remember many moons ago in junior high metal shop watching my teacher show the use of common flat head nails as a rivet on a spatula project. I was so impressed that it's stuck with me 30+ years later.
Hi Pheenix42, Amazing the details we recall! I've used steel nails, copper nails, etc. They make great rivets. Thanks for the comment and have a wonderful new year.
Really enjoyed your video on fancy riveting. Your camera work is far superior to what I'm used to seeing on youtube. Keep up the good work. I'm going now to check out all your other videos! Meg
Hi Nancy, That looks like a lot of fun making those different types of rivets. Love it when you give us ideas to make it easier. I need to go to the hardware store to purchase one of those steel plates you used. I'll need to play your video again before I go so I have the name of the tool. The holidays are almost upon us and I want to wish you and yours much happiness this season and a happy and healthy New Years. Peace...
Nancy - Saw that you were on Craftsy and then proceeded to check out your videos! I love them all and you are entertaining, to boot! I will be taking the Craftsy "prong setting" class because of this. Thanks for sharing your tricks of the trade...... I haven't taken this many notes in a LONG TIME!
Hi Helen, riveting IS, actually, fun. Hope you can find the plate - if not, there are links for a few of the items in the video under my comments. Take care and happy holidays to you too! Thanks for writing. Nancy
Hi Salkis, I'm assuming that you are talking about the drill bit/screw gauge? I've posted the link under the video in the information area. Micro-Mark carries them. TH-cam doesn't allow links to be posted in comments so, here's a variation of the link that they will accept: micromark (dot) com/gauge-for-drill-bits-and-screws,6480.html. Thanks for watching and writing. Nancy
great video. I didn't know that i can roll the wire to make it straight. I just want to try the riveting technique but don't want to get all new tools and supplies. With your video, i can use what i have. Trip to hardware store tomorrow :)
HI Nancy, I've been enjoying your videos.Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. On this video I noticed that you placed the fancy head rivet through the flower with petals, and the petals are not flat. How are you going to set that rivet and not smash the petals? Thanks
Hello Nancy, I hope this isn't a FAQ, but what kind of drill do you use? I'm in the market. I'm so looking forward to your full length project videos! Thanks for all your time and expertise, Danielle
Is it possible to make rivets from other metal wires? I use zinc for my jewelry, so I am wondering what kind of rivets would suit. Thank you for answering.
Hi Excelbaby, Actually, a trip to Harbor Freight is on the list! I just need to figure out when to film and (probably) get their permission. I started my biz with the tools I purchased from them and tools from my (now passed) friend Al Pine. Love Harbor Freight. Will love them even more if they let me film! Thanks for the fabulous comment. Talk to you later and take care. Nancy
Thanks so much! I really enjoy your videos...not only educational but a hoot to boot!! (love your feline and your human assistants too...both are lovely!)
Hi Nancy, When you want to use balled rivet, how do you keep the ball from changing shape? You can not set it on any thing hard to hammer the other side, so do you use some thing that is con caved?
Thank you for your wonderful instructional videos! Love your humor too. Where did you get that large anvil? I need one but the ones I have seen are VERY pricey..any suggestions would be appreciated. Also, do you do in person instruction/classes?
Awesome. I've been looking for tips for a while now. I just subscribed to your channel. :D Try sticking your rivet into a collet or drill chuck just hand tightened and rub it lightly against sandpaper. You'll get it nice and true.
Hi Renee's Mom! Thank you so much. I think learning should be entertaining - otherwise, we all fall asleep and don't learn a danged thing. I know, I slept through geometry class in school (among others) and now, as a somewhat adult person, am really irritated with my teacher. \Who would have thought that I'd actually need that knowledge? Not me or her, apparently. Ah well... Thanks bunches, great holiday to you and yours. Take care. Nancy
Thanks ExcelBaby! That tool collecting can get dangerous - the word addicted comes to mind. Have fun at Harbor Freight, I know that I do. Take care and thanks again. Nancy
@phpoland You're welcome. It is not actually a wheel but a sanding disk made by Moore. Since we can't add links here, I'll try to type it so you can find it. You'll need to delete the spaces. A company in Oakland, Ca - Otto Frei carries them. I'm sure there are other suppliers. That link is (kinda): ottofrei. com /store /home. php?cat = 784
Hello Nancy. My name is Andres and i'm from New York. I have a stainless steel mens bracelet that uses small rivet or rivet-like pins that push in through each other thru either side of the link in order to hold it in place. this one particular pin has fallen out 3 times and i found myself paying an exorbitant amount for each repair. I have tirelessly tried finding the part on my own for months with no success. Please tell me where i can find this part. If you need pics let me know. Thanks
@isallybutton I hope you had a fabulous hardware store shop! Harbor Freight Tools is another dangerous place to shop! Cheap and plentiful tools. Happy riveting. Thanks for watching and commenting. Nancy
Thanks ianglock1. I've used that technique - just forgot to mention it, I guess. Thanks for the reminder! That technique does make a nicely rounded nail head. Take Care and enjoy! Nancy
You know, one of the things that I forgot to put into the video was the use of a cup bur on the balled end AFTER riveting! Sorry about that. Thanks for watching.
Hi Star, Thank you for laughing with me. It's not fun to laugh in a vacuum! Thank you also, for writing such sweet words. Next video: my studio tour. It's where I overuse the word "stuff" and show everyone around. Thanks again. Nancy
Hey Nancy!! Hope you are over your cold by now,,poor thing!! Amazing that you make vids while feeling a little yukky! What a trooper! Anyway I have enjoyed watching this video and your others,,Looking forward to more! Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge and expertise! Just let me know where I should send a box of Kleenex..for your next vid,,lol!! Keep up the super work! :-D -Mindi
thank you Nancy sooo much for replying.....I was losing hope. I have tried everything i possibly could. I will send you a picture but your email doesnt seem to work. Could you please send it to me exactly how it should be typed so i can forward the image.....thanks again.
@Bonitomio Hi D Shane, First off thanks! Second: I got my large anvil from Harbor Freight and my small one from Rio Grande Jewelry. I'd post links but You Tube won't allow it here. You can email me from my website for longer, more detailed info. Flex shaft - a cheap version that I use is from Harbor Freight. Rio Grande sells (and I also use) a better quality one from Foredom. I've never heard of the Carvemaster. But, it's for wood, I bet and may not have enough oomph for metal. email me. N
Oh hey my 'Senior Moments' are getting more and more frequent these days....What a life...If its not the incipient senility then its my joints in the cold mornings here in London! ....Now that's a proper Senior Moment moan lol!
Hi maineiacts, Thank you so much for the fabulous comment! You made my day! I'll let you know when I need some kleenex :-) I appreciate you taking the time to write. Take care, Nancy
Andres, Hi! I would have to see a picture of the hinge pin. Have you tried making your own from stainless steel wire? Email me at Nancy.lt.hamilton (dot) com. Have you tried googling watch making supplies, watchmaker supplies, watch making materials, etc.? Good luck and let me know. N

I've watched this video a couple of times, and I love how instructive and humorous you are at the same time!
Speaking of rivets, I remember many moons ago in junior high metal shop watching my teacher show the use of common flat head nails as a rivet on a spatula project. I was so impressed that it's stuck with me 30+ years later.
