    As a modern day bushcrafter/survivalist/prepper. I am so lucky to have come across your channel. Every second of the past two videos I have watched, I have either learned something new or learned how to do/use something I have better or in a different way. I have been doing this for a long time. I am totally subscribing to you and will be watching every video . The greatest compliment I can give is this. “ watch and listen to the elders, more can be learned from them than from a book” you sir are an elder that many should watch and listen too. Please, please keep doing the work that you do!! I appreciate you! My humble thanks for helping all of us learn .

    Yes eating the bark will always trick the mind in thinking the belly is full, but, you are getting lots of vitamins, starches and calories per pound, that's the main thing. A full stomach is a happy mind. Excellent video once again.

    A fine finish to your Five Day Challenge. You made useful adaptations to your initial shelter: less space to warm; less space to cover. I understand a good bit more about wild edibles and their processing into food. We used to enjoy cattail hearts in the spring and milkweed blossoms in their season. Cowslip and dandelion greens were also popular, especially wilted with a bit of bacon and onion.

    • @TheWoodlandEscape
      @TheWoodlandEscape  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All fine edibles. Spring is certainly the best time to enjoy nature’s bounty.

    Always instructible. Nice shelter. Horse high, hog tight and bull strong. I always try to say thanks when I wake up. Your kit reminds me of a story I read of two fellows who swamped by Greenland. The older fellow had the old-time wool clothes and the younger had modern Gortex. They were pulled out of the water in short order, but the younger fellow succumbed to hypothermia. Old does not mean obsolete, new is not necessarily better. All about need and not just want. GOD Bless and Hold Fast.

    Hey Peter! "Hunger is the best sauce!", was a saying of the French Army during the Napoleonic Wars! I was impressed with how your gear "rode" when you were moving about... nothing clanking... nothing swinging around and getting in the way.... yet everything was to hand when it was needed! WOW!

    Thanks a lot for teaching us about the cedar tea and that it contains vitamin c and that the indigenous people showed its use to the early french newcomers to the new world for preventing them folks getting seriously ill due to scurvy. It’s such an easy and simple cure.

    Your video reminded me of the low marshy woodland where I grew up. It was in the state of New Jersey, one of the 13 original colonies. We would forage all the time looking for things to eat, we would make sassafras tea from the roots of the tree. We also would fill up on wild choke cherries and make tea from the bark. The woods was filled with so much, including wild garlic and of course cattails in abundance along with wild mushrooms. The knowledge we had of these things was past down to us from our elders. These are things I have never forgotten and your video refreshed them in my mind as well as teaching me some new things. Thank you for a very nice video.

Your palette is clean, no other smells or food oils to overlay taste, and you have a greater appreciation for the food you do get. Although, most MREs are still just that..... 🙂 Thanks for sharing this! Good knowledge.

    Great and informative video. It's amazing what can foraged from our immediate surroundings. Brings to mind my Grandfather telling me how back in Sweden they would use the dried inner bark of the birch, once ground and mixed with flour to make bread.

    Cattail root cooks up and taste like potatoes.
    Leeks, onion and carrots all grow in the wild also.
    Add some beefsteak mushroom and make a beef stew without any beef.

    Good evening Peter. I checked earlier today to see if you had uploaded. Last couple weeks my notification has came through late.
    What an awesome adventure and i want to thank you for sharing. It must be difficult carrying not only your necessities, but cameras and equipment also.
    After watching all the different teas you have made, I think back to the old saying, not my cup of tea. Hmm.
    Anyways thank you again and ill be watching for the next video. We probably won't message til after the holidays so I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. Be safe and take care. Thank you.
