He is the definition of the impeccable man. This is the guy who was quite willing to create a paradox to save the Earth from the Angels (and Props to Amy for joining him in creating it). A man so utterly badass and devoted that not even getting erased from reality could stop him. A man, who, quite literally, feared nothing. Rory is, without a doubt, the single most badass companion the Doctor has had so far, and that is really saying something.
Honestly due had anime levels of badassery, and considering the fact the writers are known fans of anime (the cactai's ship is based off piccolo's from dragonball) I would not be shocked to learn Rory can cut mountains in half with that roman sword of his.
@@Krishnath.Dragonthe fact that in the Eleventh hour he comes across as clueless, out of his depth and a comic relief wuss, really adds to the massive statements his character arc makes. He made a serious comeback in the series 5 2 part finale
“C’mon tell me the name of the boy who isn’t going to die today” And although it’s not a cold open because they only started with the revival I do think an honours mention needs to be given to the opening sequence to Trial of a Time Lord. That visual is exquisite especially for the time.
The Devils Chord could have featured on this list that uncomfortable fourth wall break from Maestro to the piano note ascending into the theme of the show... Perfect😱
I love 'Good Man goes to war', enemies are very cartoonish and weak, but stakes are heartbreaking, for both doctor and Rory and Amy. However it is also Rory shining moment. Loved that troll table flip with his reveal :) I also feel for all ups and downs in River's story line, reveal of her being a daughter was done well. Bootstrap paradox one is also really fun and I love they did that, along with rock version if intro.
7:58 - YES! I was hoping you would include this cold open, like you said it is simple but really effective and THAT transition into the title sequence alone is one of the best things I've ever seen in this show, it's genius!
Of course it's hard to keep "Heaven Sent" out of best doctor things lists. Not only is it arguably the best episode of Doctor Who ever, it is one of the best episodes of television full stop.
I think this is a good list but I would have definitely put “A Good Man Goes to War” as #1. I also really like the “Before the Flood”, wish it was a little closer to #1. The one episode not listed is the 2nd episode of “The Magician’s Apprentice”, featuring Michelle Gomez as Missy. Let me just add that Missy has been the best regeneration of The Master.
/the Old series rarely did cold opens. In fact, I can only think of three times it happened. In Remeberance of the Daleks they had a shot of the Earth from Space while playing a speech from JFK. The five doctors recycled the first Doctor's speach from The Dalek Invasion of Earth and Castrovalva recycles the ending of Logopolis. Outside of that there are almost No cold opens in Classic Who.
@DittoGTI If you're referring to power of the Daleks. I think that they added that when they decided to animate the serial. I'm not sure they did a cold open when they initially broadcast the show.
There's also a cold open at the start of Time and the Rani where the sixth Doctor (which is just Sylvester McCoy in a wig) regenerates into the seventh.
"The End of the World" belongs way up there and it's not even on your list. The Doctor literally tells Rose that the world is about to end and that he's not going to do anything to stop it.
The thing I think most people miss is that in "When a good man goes to war" the title refers to Rory not The Doctor because in dialog The Doctor makes it clear "Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many.”
Heaven Sent will forever be one of my absolute favorite episodes! It's just such an amazing episode that the second half just didn't reach unfortunately (although that might be my personal "I don't like Clara" bias speaking somewhat haha)
One of my all-time favorite episodes of Doctor Who has a creepy and mysterious cold open. That would be Blink. However, of all the episode cold-opens you left out, I'd have to say the Devil's Chord is most deserving of inclusion. Jinx Monsoon starting to play the Doctor Who theme on the piano as the credits start was just as awesome as Peter Capaldi playing Beethoven's Fifth on his guitar.
Technically, Peter Capaldi is the 13th Doctor. People forget the war Doctor. But, after the timeless child, awesome, we don't know how many Doctors are there. Doctor times infinity.
Amy's Choice is by far my favorite episode because it is that entertaining. The whole episode makes you wonder which is the real world. Most episodes just make you wonder how do you defeat the big bad.
Okay, I'm going to brag about my headphones. Do I hear a clicking behind Ellie's narration? Is the dryer running? Is there a solar-powered desk doodle running beside her? I keep taking my headphones off to check, but the sound is in the feed, not my environs. I mean, it's fine, but kind of fun too.
I really enjoyed the cold open to The Unquiet Dead. Watching live in 2005, it was the first cold open of the new era that had me anticipating something close in tone to classic who, particularly Ghost Light, which I'd watched on original broadcast as a child.
Tooth and Claw should definitely be on this list, so should Listen, or at least be in the top 20. Veritas would be another one which sets up the adventure very quickly.
I am sorry but It's very easy to keep Heaven Sent of the list of Best ofs because it's not that good. He's angry I get it but It's just one hour long Monologue by Capaldi; which is boring to be honest and does little to advance the plot. I would much rather they try to answer the question whose to blame for what happened any why it happened. It would have been nice to see the Doctor go after the guilty parties; which they do to some extent in the vastly superior Hell Bent.
Let us know your favourites! Any good ones we didn't include?
Hi
Series 2 finale. Rose talks about her death day
Definitely A Good Man goes to War, so Badass!
No forest of the dead is criminal
i think that the doctors daughter was a good opening scene
Rory telling the Cybermen, "Don't give me those blank looks," has to be one of the most underrated lines in the show's history.
Rory Williams is an underrated gem. 2000 years waiting. That changes a man. To where he got to in the Whoniverse, I admire him very much.
He is the definition of the impeccable man. This is the guy who was quite willing to create a paradox to save the Earth from the Angels (and Props to Amy for joining him in creating it). Being the best looking of the companions, IMO, helps, too.
@@olirothers Indeed. Reality said, you need to step up, and boy did he.
“C’mon tell me the name of the boy who isn’t going to die today”

The Devils Chord could have featured on this list that uncomfortable fourth wall break from Maestro to the piano note ascending into the theme of the show... Perfect😱
It's good but it just feels like a worse version of the Before The Flood cold open
The open for A Good Man Goes To War is my favourite Who moment ever
I love 'Good Man goes to war', enemies are very cartoonish and weak, but stakes are heartbreaking, for both doctor and Rory and Amy. However it is also Rory shining moment. 11 out of 10
Never gets old.
7:58 - YES! I was hoping you would include this cold open, like you said it is simple but really effective and THAT transition into the title sequence alone is one of the best things I've ever seen in this show, it's genius!
Great but not mentioned: Flatline - Chilling and simple, explains a little about the episode to come
For me, The Magicians Apprentice hooked me. I wanna know if 12 will save Davros?!? 😆
Agreed - you think it is just another war / battle and then the boy says "Davros' - spine chilling twist in the first few minutes.
THANK YOU! I was surprised it not only wasn’t number one, but it didn’t even make the list!
One word - Blink!
Listen’s cold open not being on here is criminal. My absolute favorite of the whole show
Capaldi had some amazing monologue openers. Listen's open is amazing.. it does the same job of laying out the episode's plot in a compelling way.
How did Magician’s Apprentice NOT make the list? Thought for sure that’d be #1. “Davros… my name is Davros.” Coldest open in Doctor Who.
How could the TH-cam algorithm keep this from me for 5 minutes?!
Of course it's hard to keep "Heaven Sent" out of best doctor things lists. Not only is it arguably the best episode of Doctor Who ever, it is one of the best episodes of television full stop.
I think the opening to Remembrance of the Daleks is one of the best
Glad to see some Rory love!
6:51 Eleven out of ten 👏👏👏 bravo editor, phenomenal
I really love the devils cords opening with the piano opening melody
The cold open for The Devil's Chord was brilliant, simply because of Jinkx Monsoon playing us into the opening titles.
Time and the Rani with McCoy was my favourite one. Esp when she (Rani) said "leave girl, it's the man I want."
After watching the beginning of the video, I need a video of Ellie singing the entire intro!
I totally don't recall the floating Cyberman head opening. I only vaguely remember that rusty Cyberman villain.
It is also great because Capaldi is playing rock version of the theme song.
Oh god, now my heart is begging for a rewatch ❤
I have the opening theme music from the episode Before the Flood as my ringtone.
Thanks Ellie, i have some ideas for a Sunday Who marathon 😀
Rory Williams is the sexiest companion ever. We love a real Wife Guy and I happen to have a soft spot for competence, which Rory is dripping with.
I like that Film Yesterday. I loved It was very fun and entertaining.
Nah.... 2 should have been 1
I will always love Rory's moment in the cold open
i mean he cut through an entire cybership WITH A ROMAN SPATHA
The classic series didn’t do a lot, but time and the rani I find a bit underrated
/the Old series rarely did cold opens. In fact, I can only think of three times it happened. In Remeberance of the Daleks they had a shot of the Earth from Space while playing a speech from JFK. There's a second doctor serial with a cold open. It's animated on iPlayer
@DittoGTI If you're referring to power of the Daleks. I think that they added that when they decided to animate the serial. I'm not sure they did a cold open when they initially broadcast the show.

@DittoGTIThat wasn’t in the original. It was added for the animation.
@@josephcooter5763They did the same for _The Macra Terror,_ but neither of them were part of the original.
11 out of 10. Nice...
Night of the Doctor!!!
*Screams in Whovian*
The dream lord needs a second episode at least
If you guys included the classic series, Remembrance of the Daleks would be up there.
Listen???
I'm surprises you didn't put in river songs. Hello, sweetie
Whoooppppp the topics of the videos this year have been sooo good.
The narrator is exhausting at times - this is one such time...
Sucks the show ended with Matt Smith, i really hope its brought back someday 😢
yay rory in the thumbnail
Love a cold open
Great synopsis! Enjoyed that!
Soooooo… no Remembrance of the Daleks then?
"The End of the World" belongs way up there and it's not even on your list. The Doctor literally tells Rose that the world is about to end and that he's not going to do anything to stop it.
Was Capaldi’s Doctor admitting that he meddled in time and introduced Beetoven’s 5th?
Bravo whoculture, for the cold opening itself
IM STILL WAITING ON THE MOFFAT VIDEO ELLIE! Just kidding take your time... im exited!
"Where is my wife?", imnsho, is the best scene in 60 years of Doctor Who.
The thing I think most people miss is that in "When a good man goes to war" the title refers to Rory not The Doctor because in dialog The Doctor makes it clear "Good men don't need rules. Today is not the day to find out why I have so many.”

never say anything bad about a sibgle matt smith ep. they are al, peak DW
I wish the show didn't end after Matt 😢 I hope it's brought back someday
despite endgame being phenomenal, Doctor Who did it before Marvel. and did it better
And with a tiny fraction of the budget.

the cold opening of the devil's chord is a good one too

Most episodes just make you wonder how do you defeat the big bad.
Great video but I gotta say
the rock version of the Doctor Who theme is the best version of the theme ever
it's great to hear Ellie's clipped tones again
How the hell is The Name of The Doctor's cold opener not on this list?
What the Space Babies, Orphan 55, Fear Her, Crimson Horror is going on here?
Okay, I'm going to brag about my headphones.
Do I hear a clicking behind Ellie's narration? Is the dryer running? Is there a solar-powered desk doodle running beside her? I keep taking my headphones off to check, but the sound is in the feed, not my environs.
I mean, it's fine, but kind of fun too.
Cold open -
I hope the dryer didn't open to cold clothes, unless it was set for no heat . . .
I really enjoyed the cold open to The Unquiet Dead. Watching live in 2005, it was the first cold open of the new era that had me anticipating something close in tone to classic who, particularly Ghost Light, which I'd watched on original broadcast as a child.
Ahem, you missed the classic 5 Doctors cold open. Up until 2005, that was my favorite cold open.
Technically the whole of "The Woman who fell to Earth" is a cold open. We don't get the opening credits til the next episode.
Stolen Earth will always be my favorite! May you rest in peace, Liz ...
"my name is Davros...."
Do same list for classic dr who, Cliff hangers
I would have put Where is my wife at number 1.
Tooth and Claw should definitely be on this list, so should Listen, or at least be in the top 20. Veritas would be another one which sets up the adventure very quickly.
_Extremis*_
So, was Amy pregnant with RiverSong? Eh? Just throwing it in for Ellie... ;-P
I'm sorry for being annoying but, in The Big Bang, if stars no longer exist, so how js there a moonlight?? The Sun is still there?
I miss Sean
A story featuring Beethoven would be amazing 🤩
Blink, how can you miss blink, also Girl in the Fireplace and Unquiet Dead
First because I am... 😮💨
