I was very lucky to grab one of these at the GC sale price. I agree with everything said. The setup was near perfect out of the box (the intonation is slightly off, but I'll adjust next time I change the strings). Everything else was perfectly set up; neck relief, action, nut, etc.
Note: I'll add, the 9V will last a long time, but make sure to unplug the guitar after every use to prolong battery life.
The sustain is absolutely incredible. I've been a long time Les Paul player, ("it's famous for its sustain" -Nigel Tufnel) but the KH-V has noticeably better sustain. Simply amazing.

Nice review. I recently got one of these and paid the half-off price. It is really amazing. I love the extra thin u neck even more than the thin u necks on my other LTD and E-II guitars. I like the neck so much I just bought the KH-3 model to go with it.

It's interesting you brought up the active pickups for solo work. In a Guitar World interview with Kirk and James last year. They have come to the conclusion after many years. They feel PAF's age better. And now want to switch for lead work . Interesting article!
Whether or not there is any truth to the claim is well.... to be heard!?

And EMG has come out with Retro-Actives...supposed to combine the best of both worlds. Jim Root has his own signature ones, but they also have the Fat 55s, Hot 70s, and Super 77s. I think the Hot 70s sound really good...alnico neck and ceramic bridge. And with their solderless Quick Connect system it should be easy to swap out if you want to give them a try. EMG does have passives, but none really stand out. Perhaps the Rev Set, but they are very vintage voiced Alnico II. Jordan Ziff (played with Ratt, demos Charvel guitars) uses the Rev bridge.

I’m just about to buy this guitar but it bean hard to decide on the black (first option) and the red one. Haven’t seen them in person but need to decide soon.
    Any suggestions?

@@battleaxe6108 Thanks for taking the time to comment! If it were a choice between those two, I would go for the KH-V. Epiphone has more QC problems than ESP/LTD. The LTD also has a MAP of $1799 while the Epiphone has a MAP of $1099. The LTD is a better deal savings-wise!

I like it. Except the cheap looking plastic pickguard that kinda ruins the guitar to me

@@michael4591 It’s certainly not as snazzy as the metal Jackson Rhoads pickguards. Thanks for watching!!!
