Bakewell is probably my favourite tart. It's right nice nice and strong but nice at the same time. I remember one time when I went to Bakewell town and I saw that some bakewells had icing on top of and others didn't, so I bought one of each to see what one was best. I Ended up accidentally dropping them in the river when I got startled by a duck. Fumbs up.
hey kay i have a recipe with ingredients. 1 tbsp vegetable oil 4 shallots, very finely chopped 600g freshly ground beef (ask the butcher for something with roughly 15% fat - we used chuck) 8 thyme sprigs, leaves picked and chopped 2 tsp Dijon mustard 2 tbsp plain flour 200ml crème fraîche 1 egg yolk 6 tarragon sprigs, leaves picked and finely chopped dressed green salad, to serve For the pommes frites 4 large baking potatoes (such as Maris Piper or Russet), peeled 2 tbsp vegetable oil STEP 1 Heat the oil in a pan and add about 3 /4 of the shallots. Cook for 5-10 mins, stirring occasionally, until soft and starting to caramelise in places. Set aside to cool. STEP 2 In a large bowl, combine the beef, thyme, 1 tsp Dijon and the cooled shallots. Season with black pepper but not salt at this stage (this can cause the meat to dry out). Shape into four patties and dust with flour. Put on a plate, cover with cling film and chill for at least 30 mins (or up to 2 hrs). STEP 3 Meanwhile, prepare the frites. Slice the potatoes into skinny chips, tipping into a large bowl of cold water as you go. Drain, then transfer to a large pan and cover with fresh water, seasoning with salt. Bring to a fast simmer, boil for 1 min, then drain well. Tip the chips onto a clean tea towel or some kitchen paper, spread in a single layer so they dry and cool quickly. Heat oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. STEP 4 Tip the chips into a bowl with the vegetable oil and 1 tsp salt. Toss to coat, then spread out over two large baking trays. Cook for 45 mins or until crisp and golden. STEP 5 When the chips are about 15 mins from being cooked, heat a large frying pan with a drizzle of oil. Season the patties with salt on both sides and cook for 3-4 mins each side, or until they have a dark brown crust but are still slightly pink inside (or cook them for a little longer if you’d prefer them well done). Transfer to a plate, cover with foil and set aside to keep warm while you make the sauce. STEP 6 Return the pan to the heat and tip in the remaining shallots. Fry for 1-2 mins to soften, then remove the pan from the heat and stir in the crème fraîche, remaining Dijon, the egg yolk and tarragon, as well as any resting juices from the beef patties. Season well. Serve the steak with the pommes frites and a green salad, with the Béarnaise sauce on the side.
Just some tips kay 1. Blind baking is when you put dried rice or beans on top of the pastry while baking to keep its shape before you add the filling 2. When you put the jam across the bottom melt it to spread it easily and the put the tart case in the freezer so when you add the filling it doesn’t spread up the sides 3. When you make the filling (frangipane) ground almonds are important they give it the cakey texture, classic flavours of a Bakewell tart and without it the butter will spill out Good first attempt though! I would love to see you try it again
Hey Kay! Just wanted to tell you how much you’ve improved! I’ve got my own meatball recipe for you if you’d like to use it in a new video! 1. Get mince meat into big bowl. 2. Add salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, thyme, breadcrumbs and and eggs (however many you feel are right for the portion size) into the bowl of meat. 3. Grab a handful of the mixture and roll into a ball shape. It’s very important for cooking evenly. 4. Cook in the oven or frying pan (I recommend frying pan) until the meat is brown. Make sure you don’t overcook or undercook the meatballs. Thanks for reading this recipe Kay and can’t wait to see more content!! ❤
Just a tip... next time try using a fork to cream the sugar/ butter mixture. It's easier to break the clumps down . Also make sure it's room temperature and soft. Love tour videos. So comforting to watch🥰

Hey Kay, I notice you have some mistakes in baking the tart, don't worry though, not everyone get's it first try and that's alright, but here's some issues I've found with it 1: There was no holes in the bottom of the dough while in the cake tray, there should always be holes in there to let the air out of the bottom 2: The dough wasn't all over the edge, your dough should just go over the rim of the cake tray, if some edges are depressing then you can take dough from the larger areas off to even it out, but never let there be too much dough on the outside 3: What you did wan't blind baking, you baked the whole thing, blind baking is baking the dough first, then putting your ingredients, spices, etc inside. 4: ALWAYS HAND MAKE YOUR DOUGH UNLESS TOLD OTHERWISE!!!! I can't stress this enough, you should always make your dough in a bowl, and leave it to ferment, never use a blender 5: You folded your dough too many times, it shouldn't need to be folded a lot at all 6: Always add an egg to your dough, it makes it richer and easier to work with 7: Spread your jam evenly, even if it takes a bit! If not then you'll have areas with flavor and no flavor 8: You need to put your fully prepared tart in the oven longer Other than that, maybe a few others that I haven't spotted, your pastry didn't look all that bad for a relatively inexperienced baker. Have a good day!

hey kay i have a recipe with ingredients.
1 tbsp vegetable oil
4 shallots, very finely chopped
600g freshly ground beef (ask the butcher for something with roughly 15% fat - we used chuck)
8 thyme sprigs, leaves picked and chopped
2 tsp Dijon mustard
2 tbsp plain flour
200ml crème fraîche
1 egg yolk
6 tarragon sprigs, leaves picked and finely chopped
dressed green salad, to serve
For the pommes frites
4 large baking potatoes (such as Maris Piper or Russet), peeled
2 tbsp vegetable oil
STEP 1
Heat the oil in a pan and add about 3 /4 of the shallots. Cook for 5-10 mins, stirring occasionally, until soft and starting to caramelise in places. Set aside to cool.
STEP 2
In a large bowl, combine the beef, thyme, 1 tsp Dijon and the cooled shallots. Season with black pepper but not salt at this stage (this can cause the meat to dry out). Shape into four patties and dust with flour. Put on a plate, cover with cling film and chill for at least 30 mins (or up to 2 hrs).
STEP 3
Meanwhile, prepare the frites.
STEP 4
Tip the chips into a bowl with the vegetable oil and 1 tsp salt. Toss to coat, then spread out over two large baking trays. Cook for 45 mins or until crisp and golden.
STEP 5
When the chips are about 15 mins from being cooked, heat a large frying pan with a drizzle of oil. Season the patties with salt on both sides and cook for 3-4 mins each side, or until they have a dark brown crust but are still slightly pink inside (or cook them for a little longer if you’d prefer them well done). Transfer to a plate, cover with foil and set aside to keep warm while you make the sauce.
STEP 6
Return the pan to the heat and tip in the remaining shallots.
