I grew up in Walland. I graduated from Heritage in 1992. I really want to go back home even though I live in Palm Beach now. I love living at the beach and the lifestyle. Here is amazing but there will always be something about Maryville. That’s in my heart.

Visit Maryville but don't move to Maryville. It is way to crowded. Our roads, hospitals, etc can't stand anymore folks living here. I heard Knoxville is a good place to live.

We moved to Maryville 3 years ago. While we're glad to be in TN, and are now settled, we wish we'd checked some of the towns further-out that aren't growing so fast and furious. Suffice it to say, the infrastructure is not able to keep up with the exploding population. The traffic is becoming horrific at almost any time of the day. Knoxville is in the list of cities with the highest traffic fatalities. Crime has more than doubled since we've been here and the police force is understaffed. The schools are very over-crowded. In fact, twice they've had to cancel because they didn't have enough staff. We know Niche rates the Maryville city schools highly, but they were very disappointing for our family. They show Disney movies the last two weeks of the year, all day, while it's the nicest weather in the TN year outside. They rely heavily on screens for everything. The kids are also pretty violent. Suffice it to say, the first year living here we had 6 grandkids enrolled in the public-schools and only two still attend. The others are homeschooled or in (very expensive) private schools. Maryville College is very Woke. As for Health Care, Blount County is not a real forward-thinking hospital. We spent a few years hanging-out there while my elderly father was in and out . The best health-care in the state is in Memphis, but, it's Memphis. But there are nice cities outside of it. And before you move within 100 miles of Oak-Ridge, do a deep-dive on the Cancer clusters in this area and how their development of the nuclear reactors have affected the water-table, lakes, etc. I do agree with this video as far as there being plenty of places to eat and shop, (fast-food everywhere) and lots of things to do.

This is the most accurate representation of my hometown. I was born in Maryville and lived there until I graduated high school. I live in Knoxville now. Growing up, it was a beautifully rural area with hardly any development. There a few apartment buildings scattered here and there but were old. Everywhere you looked there were green fields and nice people. Every time I drive through now, I tear up seeing the landscape being covered in concrete. I miss the fall festivals I enjoyed as a kid. The schools here have never been good, I will say that. Blount memorial hospital has never had a good reputation. Overall I just miss the way it used to be. Its so sad to see it gentrified in this way

Maryville's population is growing. It grew by 4,500 to 32,000 from 2010 to 2020. You also have Alcoa next to Maryville which had good growth too. However Blount county is really growing as a whole. The latest census estimate in 2022 shows Blount county with a population of 140,000 up from 123,000 in 2010. That is the second most populous county in the Knoxville metro area.

Yes, and natives are not happy about this explosive growth. We no longer have our small town Mayberry feel. What used to take 5 minutes to get across town takes 20-30 minutes. Our fields, farm land and dairies are now town houses, apartments and condominiums. We have had population growth but our infrastructure has not kept up the pace. Our schools are crowded and overrun. Alcoa school system is having an incredibly difficult time keeping up.
