    I lived high in the Sierras most of my life. Fixing Old broken down Cabins From the top to the bottoms! even when they were falling down we jack them back up. We had Lakes and Rivers all around with Trout and Bears. Bears can be a problem Im sure your finding out! I had to leave because of my nerve damage. If you dont have to dont ever leave. I miss that life in the Mountains and the Bear problems!!

      Sounds like a good life! We haven’t had bear problems at this place yet. It is on an island and the garage is all flown out with each group so there’s really no incentive for them to make their way out here. I do see old damage from them around though, chewed up poly lines or torn screens so they could definitely make their way around here

    I did a lot of work in Southeast Alaska and rode in Beavers many times, Otters too. Talk about workhorses, I'm 75 years old and rode in planes older than me that are still being used and I'm sure will still be flying long after I'm dead and buried.

    Not sure if you got access to a brushsaw and harness but looks like the perfect tool to clean up fist sized diameter tress like the poplar and birch around camp can double to maintain trails, just don't ding to many rocks.

    Looking at flying up next year- do you have a favorite camp among Arctic Lodges on Reindeer, Milton Lake Lodge and Wollaston Lake Lodge? Or any others that you like a lot? Thanks for doing all of this! Awesome to see all your content- it’s really interesting and entertaining!

      Thank you! Honestly all depends on what you want to target fish species wise, the total overall experience you’re looking for, budget l, and willingness to travel ( multiple flights, or drive etc)

    Tons of potential along with one heck of a lot of work to go with it. Watching the videos it's hard to get a timeline on things. Are you hosting guests this year or just rehabbing the place shooting for the '25 season? Love the footage of the Beaver on floats, absolutely my favorite airplane of all times!

    Do you still have "Slippery Winds"? Fished there in 1976 to 1982 when it was run by Bob Hoffie (sp) flying in from Nestor Falls. Really enjoy all your videos and wish you the best with your new venture.

      @darylgilbertoutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, we left slippery winds after last season. I heard the name Bob there a few times and saw a few photos of the place that had his name on the Slippery Winds sign. Who was flying in from Nestor falls back then?

      @@darylgilbertoutdoors I do not remember the name of the flying service. If I recall correctly, Tinker owned/operated the service. A bush pilot named "Minnow Eric" delivered minnows to camp - landed/tookoff right in the bay. Hoffie said he and his plane had been pulled out of the trees a number of times. Great memories

    Looks like really cool area and lots of fishing potential. Is it mostly trolling for lake trout? Any fly fishing opportunities?
    I watched 3 different videos of yours and I'm wondering why these camps are so rough, meaning not maintained? The abandoned one was sad and the others seem neglected.

    • @darylgilbertoutdoors
      @darylgilbertoutdoors  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Trolling , jigging, definitely can catch them on the fly aswell along with the pike. Just the old owners getting to the end of the road and not putting money back into the places or just not willing to do the work anymore really

    Is this the Sandy Bay north of Pelican Narrows? Is Jacksons Airservice still going strong? Best of luck you guys!

    • @als1023
      @als1023 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is north of Sandy Bay, a lake call Kamichawa starddles the border with Manitoba.
      Russel was an outfitter in Sandy Bay who had camps other places, I researched online. He might have been flying people in here, from Sandy Bay, my guess.

      Interesting, nice area, used to fly in and out of Sandy Bay as a pilot for Parsons Airways Northern Limited. Dropped by on Jacksons a few times. Memories from the late seventies and early eighties. When does freeze up happen on average now, and break up? Cheers.

    • @darylgilbertoutdoors
      @darylgilbertoutdoors  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All depends on location really and how deep you need to go. Here we are able to use in line line weights from 2-6 ounces. The trout here don’t really push too deep. We still see fish feeding in the surface mid summer
