I saw joe claussell play in a now defunct club in amsterdam called truow, in 2014. I was 19 and it was the first time i really ~got~ house music. It started a love affair for the rest of my life until present, and even then, partying a lot, doing a lot of drugs and drinking, going all over the place, I hadn't ever seen a set as good. Years later, I ended up getting sober, partying less. Joe headlined a party in melbourne called freedom time. I luckily scored free tickets from my then housemate, a photographer at the festival. Only problem was, I had a shift that night at the bar I was working at. I spent the ENTIRE day ignoring the rest of the festival trying to get a cover for my shift that night. I wanted so badly to see his set it honestly hurt a lot. Like being there would have some symbolic weight or numinous quality. All the other sets to me, as grand as they were, werent priotity. But try as I might, I couldn't find anyone. Saddest uber I ever called. I was crushed, and knew i would likely never see him play again. But then, on the cusp of the city I found someone on a bartender exchange facebook group! I told my manager immediately but he wasn't happy. He said he needed someone who knew the close procedure. We struck a deal. If the dude filling in worked and I came in STRAIGHT from the show, and did the last hour of the close - we would be golden. Granted, it was a weekend and they were understaffed. I turned that uber around and didnt miss a goddamn second of the set. I think it felt in many ways like the closing of a loop. When I started partying, with the cosmopolitanism and conceit you often find in these spaces, mixed with the perfect storm of substances and chaotic people - I went through some emotional turmoil, and man. Standing there listening to an absolute masterclass in house music, I honestly cried. Hardest, and probably stupidest-looking I ever danced at a show - sober as a judge. It sounds pretty dramatic but I got in that uber to close the bar with the dumbest grin on my face and wouldn't shut up when I got there apologising and thanking everyone for putting up with my antics. I went home, and absolutely exhausted, I slept a mighty sleep. That next morning, it just so happened that a friend I was with that night was catching a flight to the states. Joe was there at the airport (if not on his flight? I dont recall). He told Joe the story, sent me a photo of the two together and by all accounts he's a really sweet dude. Thanks joe. Sooo... yeah, the sound in this vid sux on our listening end, but there is a huge difference in what we hear on this end and the electricity that was felt live. DJ ing is about a lot more than just scratching, and track transitions being smooth and seamless. It's about sound control, sound manipulation and navigation. Being an artist accentuating other artists and themselves, being a complete technician. This man Joe Claussell, along with so nanny other greats and in varied genres, has been doing this for soooooo dang long and in a way that confirms that he knows every chord and inch of each track. His mixing style, seemingly unorthodox to some, showcases his understanding the DNA of a track... the footprint and emotions in the selection. His mixing will make you feel like there is a speaker where there isn't, like someone is performing or singing right next to you and yet the speakers are across the venue! You young house heads need to level uuup and do some research and study of the originators and shaman of this thing we old heads know of called H-O-U-S-E!! Just let it be and try to understand it's more than just a sound, it's also about a feeling, a spirit, a communal resonance that goes beyond our drab comprehension at times. Blessings and good times to all that know and desire understand and know... get the bug! House, techno, trance, dnb, acid forever!!! 🤗 mr. Mo, gone until the next

In the 1990s, there is NO WAY that we'd have nearly all just stood around looking at the DJ and 2-stepping. Granted, dance clubs were nearly extinct by the time this generation was old enough to go out at night; so, they are probably more accustomed to listening, and dancing, to house music in the limited spaces of their bedrooms than on the expanse of a dance floor, soaking in the energy of strangers/fellow dancing househeads. You can also tell by many of the comments here by people who don't understand Claussell's use of effects: These effects make PERFECT sense in the context of a LIVE DJ set in a dance venue -- quite less sense if you're only listening on TH-cam and you're not old enough to have gone to danceclubs in the 80s-90s when these effects were the sign of a very experienced DJ, and quite effective when listening in front of 6-foot speakers.

This man will never need drugs ... make all the music
Make sure to ignore the chat, because those MFs are on crack.
The technique this guy has is unparalleled (despite the sound clipping, because he gives no fucks). Salute to you Joe!
The sound quality is booty cheeks but the track selection is A1
Joe doesn't soundcheck...He expects them to be ready when he gets there, and they almost always let him down...Then he goes batshit crazy and blows out the system!! You will dance though!!
00:21:14 he is so fun (~)
00:14:30 😂
Damn.. whats the tune at 1h22m? Amazing...
With the strings? Looking for that too, sounds like a Fred P joint possibly
@@JaceInman it's by Josh Milan but not sure what it's called :)
@@lennyharmony2775 I just checked a bunch of their stuff on Discogs, and none of it sounded even partially close to this. You sure it's the right artist?
@@JaceInman to me it has that typical Blaze (Josh Milan & Kevin Hedge) vibe.. but it could also be something by Lars Bartkuhn, for instance.
@@lennyharmony2775 Lol if you do not know what the track is, stop trying to ID it. TY
Crazy vibe
Dear Boiler Room how put some artists from Baltimore to be in your channel go the Station North district or Hampden area you see them.
