I was flying with a Dynon ~1month ago and the computer can be turned on without the master. It just runs off the backup battery. It was really nice to boot it up and do buttonology without worrying about having the master on.
Thanks for including the "I will not look at my phone, I will not look at my [unlocks phone]" :)
    8:15 meetup 💯💯

So is the backup battery always “alive” then? I have 2 batteries but have to flip the switches to get them to power anything. In the process of turning on the batteries, I must have by habit switched on the lights and pitot heat, which is my preflight routine for inspecting those.

@@joshmc not those batteries- the backup/standby battery for the EFIS/AHRS. Totally know what you mean about using your startup procedure, since it's what you use the most!

My insurance 2nd year went from 1380 to 840 or about 40% reduction. And that's without my instrument rating. Of course I probably have a *TON* less hull value on my airplane than you do on yours.
I use a separate audio recorder rather than recording on my cameras. It's a ton more reliable. The only time it doesn't record is if I forget to press record. And the battery life is multiple flights - way more than I would ever do on a single flight.
I really enjoyed the end where you threw the hat into the scene. Made me chuckle a little.

Glad to hear you got a good break, I'm hearing 20-30% increases for most people at a certain plateau of hours. In a regular year you and I probably would've seen much better discounts. I'm still searching for the right solution for audio -- fewer errors and fewer wires sounds attractive right now.

22 years as a AMT rule one. All probe covers off if power is coming on. Live and learn. Congratulations on the insurance reduction.

how do you sync the audio from the recorder? my best sync comes from the gopro with the audio. the others are always a pain. thanks for the numbers on your insurance.

@@flysport_tedder I clap. This puts some spikes in both the recorders audio and the camera audio and it's easy to line those up in the video editor.

Awesome pilgrimage flight! Thanks for the shoutout - did you get a headset? I will say even though I have the DZ headset and I do record the audio, I also still use the camera audio cable so syncing later is one less step so I really just use it as backup. It is really nice though to record when not filming to have record of what happened. So glad we got to hang in Nashville let's get to KSSI for the next one eh?

I did not get the headset yet, I'm intrigued but am not quite ready to take the leap. I'll look for long-term PIREPs from folks like you. We're hanging the prints today in our living room :D thank you! And yeah already looking forward to the next fly-in.
