You nailed it. Having seen Jinjer twice now....both in smaller venues (500 to 1000 people), the quality and consistency of note playing/attack from the entire band is top notch. Fortunately they have a great sound team so that comes across. Bands like Meshuggah also have this quality, but typically you only encounter this level of consistency in jazz or from studio musicians. It's just good stuff.
Vlad's drums may not be set up like many other metal drummers, but it is more ergonomic. His open style (not crossing his arms to play hi-hat with his right hand) is also more ergonomic, and likely contributed to why he placed things where they are. Another factor is the additional or non-standard pieces he uses, like the piccolo you mentioned. Most drummers you see with any additional snare (usually referred to as a side-snare) usually have it on the other side of the hi-hat. That makes the drummer have to turn his body and have his arms in tight. Vlad has his over on the other side of the kit allowing for his open hand style and more natural body position. The flat setup also means he doesn't have to reach for drums and the angle is right for a proper stick angle of attack. So for a guy that started as a classical pianist and self-taught himself drums, Vlad is actually rather brilliant with his practical placement of gear.
These guys are locked af 🔒 I’d love to hear them live. The genre I play is super far from this but damn can I appreciate it. Eugene staying with the kick the whole time even on those ridiculous kick pattens is dope.
I agree, most of the comments here are borderline disrespectful to Tony's analysis and to the band. I'd like to see what would these people think if the Jinjer fans went to their beloved bands' videos to make comments about Jinjer or suggesting Jinjer songs.
@@DrumRollTonyReacts I’m mainly a keyboard player for gospel/jazz music, and about a year ago I picked up bass. I really enjoy rock fusion so I picked up bass in hopes of eventually playing this kind of stuff. Not at this level yet tho 😂
Having seen them as headliners and with 40+ years of shows behind me, Jinjer is 2nd only to Rush in terms of live playing quality. My current rule is that any time they're headlining within a 3hr drive, I'm there.
They’re right there with the best rhythm sections I’ve seen live. Stanley Clarke/Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford/Tony Levin, Justin Chanceller/Danny Carey, Vinnie Coliuta/Tal Wilkenfeld, Alphonso Johnson/Chester Thompson.
@@SketchyPololosame. They're great. They set the bar for tightness and consistency while playing complex music. Hopefully they'll announce another (longer) US tour once the new album drops in February.
Thank you DrumRollTony, that was awesome breakdown!!! I still think there are some Vlad's Playthroughs that you need to react to please ? and thank you ! Keep doing what your doing!!!
Recently there has been a controversy over certain drummers on social media trying to out do each other to the point of a few of them faking some playing even though they are all genuinely talented drummers. All of that playing is based on extreme speed which IMO is only impressive to a point. Sort of like speed porn. So yes I too am way more impressed by this than that stuff.
I don’t think Vlad uses the sticks on the high hat because if I’m not mistaken the high hat is actually located down low and out in front of the kit on the left side (Vlads) of the bass drum. Feel free to to check me if I’m wrong.
You are right! I just auto piloted and didnt realize that was not the hat on his left side. I didnt even see it until re watching and those camera shots from the front.
You should check out Ado's cover of 'Villain' by stella jang , she uses her calmness in that and it is also in korean which is not even her first language still a banger would love if u check that out
Bro I know you probably don’t get this requested much but you should really watch Trigun stampede, the anime has one of the best osts I have heard in a while it’s just beautiful. I heavily encourage and would enjoy your reaction to it.

Hi Tony! I just wanted to know if you ever plan on doing another video about Elden Ring? The game still has some amazing soundtracks like "mohg lord of blood" and "romina saint of the bud". I understand that the soundtrack of these games is quite "thick" and Idk if this kind of videos will perform well, but it would be awesome to hear you talk about them. Thanks for the great content 😊
Hi, I love watching your videos and I wanted to ask you if you could react to a song from a Friday Night Funkin mod called Have My Heart (Girlfriend Mix, and also possibly Boyfriend Mix). The mod is called Funkadelix and basically the whole point of the mod is that it remixes original Friday Night Funkin songs and adds lyrics to them! This song Have My Heart in particular is not in the game and will not be in the game, it's more like a theme/signature song of the mod. It's absolutely amazing and not something i'd expect from a mod. Have a nice day and thank you for answer in advance. Love you
Tony, if you are really and truly into rhythm sections, you MUST check out French legends Magma- especially when Phillipe Bussonett was in the band. This is a great intro to that rhythmic power: th-cam.com/video/4-3gkIe1oBs/w-d-xo.html (PS. I LOVE Eugene's playing!).
Please react to fnf indee cros mod sans week with the bad ending song. It's like 4 amazing songs you need to hear , please like my comment to make tony see it ❤❤

Yea man. What an inspiring guy! 🤘🎶
Eugene is easily my favorite bassist in music right now.

Vlad is the most underrated drummer in modern music.
