Het rund, het (roof)dier, het vee are awkward exceptions. If fact the species is often 'het', but the male/female name is always with 'de'. So: het paard, de hengst♂️, de merrie♀️. Or: het rund, de stier♂️, de koe♀️
Zo diep ga ik niet in op de stof. Nederlanders weten dit niet eens, dus voor anderstaligen die Nederlands leren, vind ik deze riviernaam niet zo interessant. Als je zulke gevallen meeneemt, dan zou de lijst met uitzonderingen wel heel lang en weinig relevant om te leren worden voor mijn doelgroep. ;)
Yes, you are right. But I guess the 'people' category could also include professions. I mean, dokters, secretaresses, docenten, programmeurs, obers, advocaten, they are all people, right? ;)
There are definately more words DE than HET. And as soon as you make a word plural it automatically becomes DE, so also therefore you run into DE more often. ;)
Unfortunately, there are many nouns in Dutch that do not fit into any DE or HET category. They will have to be memomized as you learn vocabulary. I am sorry, heheh. 😅

Er is één onzijdige rivier in Nederland. Het Spaarne. Dus even noemen bij de uitzonderingen.

why "het vlees", "het bord", "het zout", "de pasta", it seems that these are not covered by the rules given so far. 😂
There are exception in all the languages I guess. Same as spanish
