No scientific explanation but I believe it was the combination of the big storm, swell period, swell size, swell direction, wind speed and direction and tides. Like you said, things lined up.

There was a MASSIVE storm out to sea and it created a storm surge that pushed the water straight towards the coastline, along with tides.

So remember the moon actually controls the tides...and a lot of other things....last month we had two full moons...the second one was a super full moon...and very close to earth...when that happens it triggers a lot of activity...earthquakes volcanic eruptions and exceptional high tides. Its good to be familiar with the the moon cycles . This is not a theory it is for real.
