Hey guys, I'm living over in Margaret River, WA and have just started getting into surfing. Few months ago I got dumped and lost my job due to COVID, decided to put ALL my energy into learning how to surf. Luckily our beaches stayed open. Your videos are amazeballs, not only am I learning everything I need to improve, but you've really gotten my confidence in myself up. Keep doing what you're doing! Just wanted to say thanks!! YEW! FROTHING!!!!!
Sorry to hear about your situation, I'm sure surfing has helped during this time! Thank you for your feedback, it is much appreciated. Good luck with your surfing and if you have any questions please send them through :)
This is the first surfing video I had ever watched. Now that I have been surfing for a year and a half, looking back at this finally understanding what he is talking about is so satisfying.
I stumbled on this video randomly a few years ago. I used to bodyboard as a teen but never learnt to surf. I remember having no idea how to catch waves on a surfboard or how to duck dive, pump, turn etc but watching this vid helped break it down into workable chunks. I feel it was a turning point for me. I surf 2-3 times a week now, and starting to practice cutties and re-entries 🤙🏼 I just wanted to say thank you 🙏🏼
I've surfed for years, and am getting to the days (61) when I won't be able to as much as I used to (health) but I want to say thanks for this video -- very helpful even for me ... Thank you... Achim
you right i still remember the old guy who teach me how to catch waves in Itlay (frittella) it means doughnut in italian, he was 62 22 years ago i m sure if he s alive will still surf ..and then exept very bad health condition everything is possible with right moderation to any ages.
I like how you encourage people to take it slow and learn to be comfortable and good at the basic beginner's stuff. I paid for surf lessons and got hurt my first time they did not explain or do any of this stuff we just skipped it all and went right in trying to surf .
Cheers guys. Planning to go in a couple of weeks for my first course of lessons (I'm a 58 yr- old who has waited too long to do this). This video has certainly helped with the theory side....now to put it into practice!
Got a board off Craigslist and went out today with (kinda) an idea what to do. Man was I wrong! Ended up getting smacked in the back of the head by my board. Back to TH-cam for more training. I'll definitely try these techniques next weekend.
awesome video guys, thanks. My 10 years old son took his first surfing lesson today and he stood up first try! He practised paddling by himself and stood up successfully in an ocean pool the day before though. He'll like this heaps when I show it to him!
Great video, guys. I’m in Maui right now and haven’t surfed in about ten years. This was an awesome refresher and I feel like I can communicate this to my other buddies with me sequentially and in a way that makes sense. Good stuff!
This is the best video about surfing learning on TH-cam. I started 1 year ago with this video as a reference for 3 months, then I continued learning on my own. Today (1 year later) I assure you that to start to surfing this is the best video you will find ever 👍
Thank you so much for making this video!! It helps for us landlocked mountain people who dream of surfing! Headed to Kauai and looking forward to surfing there and using y'all's advise! Cheers!
I just wanted to say thank you. It was my first time ever surfing today and the teqniques you showed me really helped. I even stood up a couple of times and rode the wave in :) Thank you.
+Foxylalastar than import one, you never know when you start surfing there others may do the same, just take some lessons when your at vacation and buy a board that has enough volume yo surf with, specially if there are not much waves do they swim at the beach of your island? then stay in sight if a lifeguard is nearby or let someone be on the beach or in the water eather
longliferiderTM people don't swim in the water that has rough waves coz it's "too dangerous" and people have drowned there. Idk if it's because they're just bad swimmers
Thank you, guys! I'm a life-long surfer and run a non-profit in the US that gets underprivileged kids in the water. This video has really helped us give these kids some critical delf confidence!
Aside from my embarrassing typo, we're doing ok. Still in our infancy and working with social services groups and surf shops in the area to really take this to the next level. We appreciate the kind words!
Heading out on my first Working Holiday Visa later this year and have a Surf Camp booked! Thanks for an awesome video for an introduction to surfing! Can't wait to get out over there! Cheers guys!
A concussion is when you get so dizzy to the point where you will throw up a lot and not being able to stand. You probably just hit your head really bad.
@@shadowagent3 a concussion is when you bash your brain around to the pointy where you black out or you get close to it THEN you start puking if you puke at all
solid video. very informative. haven't surfed since 1990 and want to teach my son so I needed to brush up. Your tutorial was very helpful plus I learned new things (back in the day I was thrown into the deep end and told to just do it) thanks guys. My son enjoyed the video as well. Thanks
Just got a new 7ft board...finally have a car after 17 years so I can transport a board. Always surfed longboards 9Ft. My motorcycles couldn't carry boards. Long break from surfing...great video because I needed a routine to work back into surfing.
Becoming an "advanced" surfer in 12 weeks @ 2 sessions/week is a very lofty expectation. Most people take 2 years to become "advanced" by some standards, more like 5 years to become a true "ripper", but that's only for the upper elite talented and dedicated. Most people will be journey-level surfers for life. It's more difficult to learn as an adult, especially if you're a stiff desk worker. But that's not to say you won't enjoy it. You can have a great source of exercise and enjoyment in surfing, regardless of your ability. Don't compare yourself to other surfers. Just enjoy the experience!
Joel Savell so what about someone who is 19, just moved to San Diego, is a boxer so their athletic and constantly limber, can I become a true ripper down the line
“How to surf like a pro in 25 minutes”...I can teach you in 25 seconds with no board, video and no where near water...ready? -You gonna fall. You gonna look silly. And some days...most, at the very beginning...you won’t even get off your belly...you’re gonna yell...and punch the air...probably the water. Maybe yourself...just don’t punch anyone else...and then you’ll go home go to bed wake up sore and ready to never do it again. But then oops...here you are. And for who knows what reason you’re gonna do the sammmmeee things today...give or take...because pain, or something? See...just like every pro ever to exist...
I really needed this today. This was my second day back surfing since 2005. I was in high school then and was barely learning. All I managed to do today was stand up long enough to fall off.
Sooo happy to see this nice video.!!! I will try it in Bali later, I come from mainland of China, I just tried it in Bali this June, but I totally attracted by this sport. we don’t have tradition in water sports. We have very few videos of surfing :| so jealous of you guys
Great video with simple and clear instructions! But I feel i might return to specific segments of this video in the future to refresh my memory. It would be great if you guys could put the timestamps of each topic/segment in the description so viewers can easily find a technique in the video that they need more work on. Thank you :)
Thank you for this great video instruction. I bought a board yesterday and have been on the water last night and this morning. I still have a very long way to go, but it's a joy already. Waves have been very big here last days in the south of Phuket for beginners, but I am just getting a feeling for the everything at the spot where the waves are already broken and take the rides laying down on the board. Step by step :) Your videos are very helpful.
so i decided i would watch this video and then go out with my friend on a 8' foam board in 4'-5' waves............ BEST decision in my life. When we first got there i went in the white water to catch some water just to stand up to get a feel of how it is when your standing. Found out its harder to mess around with the white water then it is to just ball up and go for the clean nice waves. First wave i caught stood right up on my feet and road the waves all the way in. Did this about 4 more times without eating it to my surprise! HA. LOL. Im still alive so this video must have helped me some how. ='') Probably not the best idea to do what i did unless you are strong enough to handle the current and waves as a first time beginner lol.
I'm from Philippines so eager to learn this sports...this video gave me confidence and encouraged me more to push my self...next time when I'm on my vacation I'm gonna try again and again
Very good guys thanks and not too technical at all, but very explicit. Waiting on my 7' Mini-tanker and my renowned shapers recommended it over the hybrid and now after watching this video I wish I had gotten the "fish type"6'3" since I am an intermediate bodyboarder,--never did big tricks or even dropped kneed. This was the best video I have seen so far on board selection and first on weight balance.
Yes they are saying you can become an advanced surfer in 24 sessions.. no possible way ..ever.. Slater wasnt even that good after his first 24 paddle outs.
People can tell you how to surf until they’re blue in the face and granted the pointers are helpful but the key is going out and doing it. If you’re lucky enough to find a friend that is an experienced surfer and they don’t mind helping that is a great way.
Great video guys! Just bought our 3 teenage daughters boards after getting their first lesson where we live in Palm Beach County, now for me to learn how at 40 years old!
For you, 12 foot long board. You can surf. Before you stand and take the line, paddle, paddle, and paddle. Paddling is the key, and you will weight, concurrently.
My brother wants to learn how to surf but he is terrified of the beach and he won’t go any deeper than his ankles Plus you need waves to surf and he’ll only surf tiny ones that break right on the shore and barely move
I enjoyed it iv been surfing for around 8 to 10 weeks once or twice a week it was good to see what I'm doing wrong whilst trying to catch the bigger waves 👍 gonna get back out tomorrow and put it to practice
Thank you guys. it was the first how to surf video I ever watched (maybe a year ago) and now that have improved my surfing I still watch it , specially the last sessions but also the first ones. I stil find myself making some mistakes so I can correct them. Greetings from Ecuador!
you mean the fins will survive hitting the sand without a rider on top or with a rider? I can´t imagine how they will last with a rider standing on top
Wow that blonde guy rips and is incredibly good looking! Not sure about the blue guy though :\

Amazing job with training & video guys.. Loved the way you'll paused in places & the detailed explanation
I weigh 320lb. would i still be able to learn and excell at surfing?
Yes. instagram.com/p/BKkF3jmhMOO/
And surfing may help you drop some weight, too. Would recommend starting off with a bigger board.
just need to be somewhere I can start. since I live so far inland, in Alberta Canada. but it is extremely high on my interest list
For you, 12 foot long board. You can surf. Before you stand and take the line, paddle, paddle, and paddle. Paddling is the key, and you will weight, concurrently.
Jordan Dyksley hahaha I live in Sydney like 30 minutes from bondi
I watched this with my nephew (age 7) he swears he's good to go now. Love it, thanks guys!
That’s awesome to hear 😀
😉🧡
I'm watching this videos I don't even know how to swim lol
Th
My brother wants to learn how to surf but he is terrified of the beach and he won’t go any deeper than his ankles
Plus you need waves to surf and he’ll only surf tiny ones that break right on the shore and barely move
@@HaliteHorizons damn hes sound like a pro , looks like hes really going places in life
thanks for this video! I live in hawaii and love to surf, though Im not too good at it. This definitely taught me a lot! Thanks!
very well explained.
and motivating for the non so advance surfers out there like me :)
Started surfing last year. I try to do it at least once every year. This video thought me more than my instructors LOL.
Love TH-cam makes me feel like I can learn anything in 10mins lol be pro in 25 mins
Simply the best video. I'm a surfer.
Good vid but it took me 3.5 months of consistent surfing to comfortably catch head high waves, not 25 mins lol
Thank you for producing this step by step tutorial!
Yo this is actually pretty helpful oi! Blondey is a good presenter, no homo
True might do good on Tv doing presenting.
Thanks. You’re very good at explaining even though it is instinctive to you
The only reason I'm watching this video is because I had a dream that i was surfing in a sewer on a peice of seeweed and then i was surfing on ice
I enjoyed it iv been surfing for around 8 to 10 weeks once or twice a week it was good to see what I'm doing wrong whilst trying to catch the bigger waves 👍 gonna get back out tomorrow and put it to practice
How was your surfing session mate? :)
Yea man was awesome as always .making better progress now 👍
I just watched the entire video and I live in Tennessee :\
Logan Mitchell hahah i dont get why people live there and not in the coast
Thank you guys. it was the first how to surf video I ever watched (maybe a year ago) and now that have improved my surfing I still watch it , specially the last sessions but also the first ones. I stil find myself making some mistakes so I can correct them. Greetings from Ecuador!
Do the fins on the surfboard not break when they hit the sand on the shore?
If you run them into the sand maybe. But they're quite strong these days
you mean the fins will survive hitting the sand without a rider on top or with a rider? I can´t imagine how they will last with a rider standing on top
Justmyopinionlol Sand isn’t that tough, the fins easily pierce through
