I'm glad you folks love them, but don't expect to get too much done in a day. These are little machines were designed for a farmer to twitch a little wood or spend an hour pushing out a stump or leveling out a manure pile. If you have dirt to move the jd 350 is about as small as you want to go and the 450 is much better. But the little green dozer is fun to play with.
Yeah its not a 450. The point here is its a 1957 crawler that is still alive. I did use it to clear trails and a lot of land to build my hunting camp on. I am not making money off of it. In 1957 there was no 350 or 450 crawlers. this was it. Comparing a 1957 john deere 420 to 350 or a 450 is like comparing a 1966 mustang to a 2019 mustang. The 2019 mustang is more powerful, but the 1966 is way cooler.
I would love to have a three point hitch on mine, instead of a winch that doesn't work. That is a nice looking 420C. Mine is an escapee from the junkyard, but I love it! :-)
I have a 1959 John deer 420c gas. And it’s the same as yours. It’s not 5,000 pounds. The 1960 440IC gas was. I also own this one as well and the 440IC was 5,000 pounds. Winch is 3-1/2 tons. And the 420c is 3,000 pounds winch is 1-1/2 tons. So I know My stuff when it comes to things like these. I personally think the 440IC gas was the best of all the John Deere crawlers.
Nice machine. What do the four spools on the hydraulic do? My 420 only has one spool, but I see you have a three point hitch.I don't have that, wish I did though.
Actually kickstart51 yahoo. Your wrong. I have a 1959 John deer 420c gas. And it’s the same as yours. It’s not 5,000 pounds. The 1960 440IC gas was. I’m going to guess that kickstart 51 was just rounding off because his JD420 can weigh up to 4700 lbs. if it’s a 5 roller. Now the JD440 ic is quite a bit heavier, 6919-7281 depending on gas or diesel, and I know my JD 440 ic gas weighs 7240 with the winch that’s on it. By the way Kickstart, nice dozer. So you might want to re-weigh your 440 Mr. Lorow, find it hard to believe it’s that much lighter then mine.
Love them 420c s. My most reliable piece of equipment. Talk about gear reduction.first time I've seen the horizontal muffler set-up

This one still had a 3 point hitch on the back, might use a control for that?
HOW MUCH DOES THE 420 WEIGHS ???
About 5,000 pounds.

I realize it's a old thread but the 420 books shows the 4 roller at 4100 pounds and the 5 roller at 4700 so with a blade setup 5000 is pretty fair
I need one
Its for sale
U need a heavier trailer to haul that monster
Thanks for watching and I will keep that advice in mind
