    Thanks Man! this was great! I was putting together some long runs yesterday. I purchased the vampire plugs last week thinking I got this licked. I put the first one together yesterday but couldn't plug the damn thing in. I have gone to the box stores in the past thinking surely they have xmas light extensions...NOT! I then got smart and logged in to your videos. You the man! my son who loves christmas lights to the extreme will be happy!

    Someone need to invent and sell this specifically for Christmas lights. I do not want to have to rearrange my Christmas lights. What kind of clipper is best to use?

    Use a hand file if you have one. It took me about 5min to reduce both sides of the big prong. Be careful while on it, doesn't require too much effort.

    Do you ever wrap the ends of female plugs with electrical tape or do some other methods of water proofing so that it's not exposed to rain? I there a fire risk if rain gets into the exposed female plugs of string lights?

    • @melissakateproductions8193
      @melissakateproductions8193 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have this question too, and yes I usually tape over the female ends when they're outside. I have no idea if I'm being paranoid or if it's even useful, but until I know better, this is what I *think* I should do. Probably most people don't worry about stuff like this. LOL

    Thank you for this video, very helpful, however, I followed this video and some of my lights don’t work; I’m not sure what I did wrong. (I tested all lights and extension cords individually first).
    Here’s what my set up is (it runs from left to right across the front of my house): bush 1 (1 strand led) homemade extension cord to bush 2 (3 strands led) homemade extension cord to 2 sets of led candy canes plugged directly into male end of pre lit garland, (plugged into a timer here) lights follow down to the female end of the pre lit garland homemade extension cord to 2 more sets of led candy canes homemade extension cord to 2 Xmas light strands and a led Santa stacked together.
    Bush 1, bush 2 and the garland are not on.
    I used SPT-1 and I cut the large end of the vampire plugs down with a bolt cutter, like in this video, so they would fit.
    I know it might be difficult to visualize, but please let me know if anyone has any insight into what may be going wrong, thank you!

    • @PatrickHenry1989
      @PatrickHenry1989 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Christmas lights are not polarized. You can flip Christmas light socket around either way and it will plug in safely. Now some Christmas decorations and other electronics are designed with polarization in mind for added safety and or functionality. I would not alter those plugs for those reasons. But in this case of needing a extension cord for non polarized Christmas lights, this will be completely fine. Just make sure keep track of the altered extension cords and use them only for non polarized equipment. Such as storing them only with Christmas lights or tagging them. It’s a nuisance when you need a short cord for Christmas lights and don’t want to hog up another outlet or use a 12, 15, 20 or even a 100 foot cord. Seems like the only kind of extension cords that are around are polarized. With a little observation and ingenuity you can get around that issue. I personally use a dremel to quickly file down polarized plugs to use for my Christmas lights.
