In this video from LearnElectrics we will look at the question of how fast electricity travels and why it seems to be instantaneous, or maybe its not. And we promise to keep it simple and understandable.
The video came about after several people asked about electrons and what they were, how fast they travelled through a copper wire and so on, and inevitably, someone asked if that was the same as the speed of electricity and did all things happen at the speed of light. We look at this, discuss current flow and delve into what makes an atom from the electrical point of view.
Electricity is a developing science, lots of theories abound and many previous “good ideas” have been overtaken by modern thinking in the last 50 years or so.
Before we look at how fast electricity travels, and there are two speeds of interest to us, we should understand the atom from an electrical science perspective. Then we can move on to how current moves in the circuit and then look at this thing called speed.
