Unsportsmanlike foul rules in FIBA are slightly different than in NBA guys. From a FIBA POV it was not a debate at all.

It is considered political, getting the nationality is a big deal. He asked for it, sorry he begged for it, and now French feels stupids. It's on them too, but the fans will definitely feel strongly about it and whistle as soon as they get the opportunity.
If he was playing for the US without having asked for the passport, 99% of the French people would not even know who he is. So it would be a non story.
Also, ultimately, the best thing he could have done is to play for Cameroon like the South Sudan team is doing, everyone would have cheered for him. It would have been a great story. But it's not his character.
Cameroon basketball is poorly run. Siakam has never played for them either.

I think the reason Serbia WON'T beat the US is as Bontemps said--the US is not going to take them lightly. Maybe if they beat them 6 times in a row, they would be prone to let up, but certainly not once they're in a medal round. I agree Serbia IS still their most legit threat (although let's see how this second S.Sudan game goes)... but they're a known in that regard. If Serbia had the athleticism and 3-making of South Sudan, THEN the US might be in trouble.

Tatum is a top 15 ish talent. Probably the only player to win a chip and go down in rankings. His shot is broken, and he’s not really elite at anything.
Winning doesn’t change reality, Tatum is more 6-8 than 1-5. And a lot of guys behind him like curry and Lebron still have higher peaks

The amount of covering up for Steve Kerr in this pod was insane. Nobody is saying that Jayson Tatum should have taken ALL of Booker or White's minutes and they shouldn't have played at all, but to not play him at all is insane - even if you told him that it might happen before the game. However you slice it, Tatum is one of the 10 best players in the world, so for him to not be one of the first 10 players in any game regardless of who the opponent is and how many guards/centers they have is ridiculous. Kerr starting Podzemski over Klay Thompson and the Warriors giving Draymond $100M/year while lowballing Klay was equally ridiculous. If this team doesn't bring home the gold, it's entirely on Kerr.
The guy continues to trot Joel Embiid out there in the starting lineup even though he's been the worst of the 3 centers through the exhibition games and the first game. Anybody with half a brain can see that he doesn't fit on this team. And you can tell Kerr doesn't even believe in him because AD and Bam end up playing more minutes. The ball sticks in his hand and he's a complete liability for the speed of the international game. If you play drop coverage and can't switch screens against any team in this tournament, they'll shoot you out of the gym - even Japan.
The starting lineup should be: Steph, Jrue Holiday (for defense), Lebron, KD, and AD. The next lineup should be Derrick White, Ant Edwards, Booker, Tatum, and Bam. Haliburton and Embiid should get minutes in blowouts or when they're needed but defense is the most important thing in these games and they're clearly the two worst defenders. We have plenty of scorers. Haliburton is lucky he's even on the team after how he finished last season. Comparing him to Jayson Tatum is insane.

Grant Hill sold the team out for Embiid who can’t play FIBA ball. Understand the theory but in practice Durant had to walk on water to get the US out of the Embiid hole. If start Davis and have Bam play double big with Tatum you aren’t staring down a hole off the top.
Grant sold out the 2028 team for an unneeded Embiid in 2024. Why would Tatum or Brown play in 2028 for Kerr and Hill? Team USA is not going to medal without either. We already saw the Edwards and “guards that can’t guard too well” experience last year.
Hey you have LeBron and Durant skating uphill at the end of their career to drag the corpse of Embiid’s ego. It would be a fitting coda to Embiid’s career if he tanks the best Team USA since the Dream Team then causes Team USA to get embarrassed in LA.
They could have saved the hassle if they just let him enjoy his summer vacation. He literally just won the NBA championship and signed the biggest contract in NBA history, instead of celebrating with friends and family he went straight to training camp only to be benched.
