I am an amazing passer, the possession is always on my side, but my defense is insecure. I can't help it lol its hard to practice D. If I play online they murder my ass but hey least I had possession most of the time? :(
Stealthy Vegas My defending was also weak until I used the contain button (L2). Life saver I tell ya! Along with not always using the sprint button, you can always get a leg in there to regain possession. You can also create your own crossovers flicking the right analog left then quickly to the right.
KravenceHD I play PES (for like 9 years) not fifa, but whatever.. in midfield try to apply speed pressure, run at player in a direction where hes heading with the ball and circle him until u get the ball.. (never chase him, its a bad mistake) stay between players so passing becomes harder for them, and if ur close enough slide to cut the ball (lots of yellows lol). the more u play the easier it would be to guess where they will pass the ball .. as it comes closer to gk, start marking, be deeper in ur area than the attackers. get closer to them and make more carefull tackles, coz sliding is in fact very risky near the goal.. when u see player is about to shoot or really near the goal, then do the sliding block as last hope slide to stop the shot.. if attacker passed ur last defender, and hes really near ur goal, but still outside the box, do the last hope foul (sliding from behind, I know its a red, but I preffer to change formation than a goal ) hope this helps.
Tom Lewis it's very hard to do when I have the computer's players bearing down my neck when I have the ball almost literally EVERYWHERE on the pitch while playing..

You just have a different playing style. You probably press too high and get tackled, and your opponent most likely plays possession like me and some others =)

Harry Newbury Manual controls give you the freedom to pass/shoot/cross and so on, without the assistance of the CPU. Basically, you are the one controlling everything, no help. Try it out, makes for a whole new game and you will not be able to complain as much as 95% of the community does.
Sorry I did not tell you. Manual only effects your play when you HAVE to ball. If you dont have the ball, everything is the same. Defending is in no way different. If you have anymore questions, feel free to inbox me bro.

I think you just have to know in what kind of situation you have a big chance that your shot will hit the back of the net. Don't blame your GK too much :p But keep in mind that shooting too much doesn't have to be a bad thing, because of the OP corners.
There was a time I face the same thing. As in above comment Shock did is true. And one more thing i suggest u is your power of shot. Try changing your power of shoot. Shoot a bit slower as u normally shoot, shoot from inside the Penalty box in a corner direction. I guess this will help you.

Hey man, I just wanted to say, aside from catching a few World Cup games I didn't know much of anything about Futbol until I picked up FIFA 14 from the bargain bin today, and your series really helped me with the basics. I appreciate the hard work you put into this series and the lack of sports jargon you use, it was easy to understand what you meant as a total novice.
lol what are you talking about? when you start the game CPU already desides you lose or win , this game is just scripting whi very limited scenarios . when oponent score the goal CPU make your all defenders act stupidly get injured or fell down . may be your tips is good for normal game , but not for EA games

Dude, this game (fifa14 ultimate team) is getting worse every day. EA needs to do something about it. There are more people that are complaining on the slow performance of the game for a long time now and ea does not want to do anything about it.

Dudes, you can have the best players, best custom tactics, best performance, and best skills in playing, fifa14 ultimate team perform very poorly at times. And I think ea needs to seek solution to the problem because there are so many people that are complaining on this issue. Can you imagine, sometimes my team will put up momentum in the game play which I can be pleased with, but on the contrary, I can feel like destroying my controller and console when they are playing like 3 years old babies on the field. I have decided not to buy any of ea products until they can seek their customers satisfaction.
How do I stop a lob pass(L1+triangle) from a enemy? Cause every time they do a pass like this my defender instead of marking the receiver and going back he goes forward and leaves the receiver by himself
the best way to defend is not to do anything. Just wait and fifa will do the defending for you. But be vigilante to take the ball forward as soon as you got it.

Thats what called scripting/handicap

You just have to learn the types of shots (Fineese,Chip and normal one) you must learn how to do these first , the problem maybe with you striker
