I am very interested and i want to learn everything properly and make it a business... sure I want to be safe in my knowledge that I wont destroy somebody engines , sorry for english I am from Croatia
I couldn't find these to add to my list. Driver pedal axle torque, driver final axle torque, actual axle torque, predicted engine torque command, predicted engine torque source, predicted axle torque command, and predicted axle torque source. Where do those come from? Why are they not on my list to be added? Thanks!!!
He means get all your basic settings set in the tuner for logging, and gather the initial data to see what's going on with the existing tune, before making changes.
Is there a way to simulate a "launch mode" tune without having to do all those stupid actions in track mode on my C7 Z06? In others words, In any driving mode, I want to just be able to break stand and go.
I have never tuned before and am thinking about buying a hp tuner for my circle track cavalier was just wandering if you recommended them or not I need not only more power but also to extended second gear because I’m hitting the rev limiter and 3rd gear is too bogged down any information would be much appreciated
Question. I have a 2004 5.3L in a 69 chevy. I saw that a Diesel can have HP tune Switches to switch between tunes. Can you do that with an LS as well? Like E85 tune, or 87 octane and so on?
What is you take on the DiabloSport i3 Platinum in general and specifically for a 2005 base C6 Vette? Are they rubbish? I have one now but want to be able to someday create my own custom tunes and install them on my car (and perhaps expand from there). Any insight is greatly appreciate!
I’m a old school hotrod guy trying to learn this type of tuning. I have a gen 5ss Camaro. I bought the mpvi2+. But this lamda thing is throwing me off. Do I need to buy a lamda device for this hp tuner program to run with It. Or am I just not understanding what your saying. Thanks for your time. I am a subscriber and love the channel. If I ever get this figured out, its going to be a lot of fun at the track playing around with the tune. And agin thanks for your time.
Billy, all widebands read in lambda, if you are seeing AFR it is converting lambda to AFR, so when you are running gas you just need to know that is is lambda multiplied by 14.7 so when lambda is 1 it is 14.7, when lambda is .85 the AFR is 12.5, AFR as we usually use it is gasoline based, but when you go to ethanol or methanol the AFR changes but lambda stays the same as it is a measurement of burn efficiency.
Thank you for these videos!! Are PID's just inputs to the ECU of information that would apply change to the fuel, torque etc... PID loop would simply mean when the previously mentioned statement loops around and the process is repeated? Not familiar with PID term...
Hey so i’m new to tuning. I wanna start tuning my Ls1 in a 240sx. My first area to look at is when you hit the gas at low rpms you jerk forward like it wants to you to floor it. What would I be looking to adjust on that issue?
@Goat Rope Garage, I have a older 2001 suburban ECU i dont have a lot of the PID's you did what do i do???? thanks I'm a newbie trying to learn, I'm following you in the videos if you could slow down just a sec more having to go back and forth is a pain. lol thanks
would you by chance have a layout file you can share for gen4 logging? just getting in this myself, and I have the ability to build one, just didnt know if you had one to share! LOVE YOUR CONTENT THANKS!!
I liking you video series so far. I like when someone willing to educate without changing alot off money I'm assuming the pid list is different for a gen 3 where would I get that list from
I am in the process of converting my 90 corvette to Dynamic EFI's EBL p4 flash unit to eliminate chip burning. They recommend using Tunerpro. Do you have any experience with that software?
Great series. I’m learning a lot. I’m trying to save myself $250 by running a PLX wideband through the EGR input. I’ve found a coupe of older posts that have you add formulas. I’m wondering if the latest HPtuner suite will do the math for you. Basically I need to convert EGR voltage input to A/F ratio. Thanks
As long as you can get it reading in on that PID you should be able to use the custom math feature in the scanner to convert it to about anything, you'll just need to look up the egr sensor scaling so you can basically undo that scaling to get back to your raw voltage (usually 1-5vdc) then you can convert that to your wideband reading.
Would love to see you do a video on doing that. Would save people $$ rather than upgrading HPtuners. I’ve read you can also use the AC pressure switch input.
@@GoatRopeGarage I actually didn't know this was possible until reading this question. I screen capped this and saved the pic in my tuning documentation folders for future reference. I plan on going with a serial wideband, but I could use my old PLX until I save some more cash if I could use some odd input as my lambda.
Hey I followed everything step by step and I got the the graph in the scanner and I did my run nothing came up on the scanner graph, I’m new to this am I missing something?
When you initially set up VCM suite it asks you if you want to use SAE , Metric or Native? I see the top few PIDs you have are SAE? Is SAE what you set yours too
I’ve just started adding power to my 5th gen ls3 I put a turbo on it making around 15 psi on boost it’s cutting out and the hard pulls any help would be greatly appreciated
Maybe a basic question, but when logging is there a general limit to work around? In one of your other videos you mention about 15 minutes of driving. Would a log longer or shorter serve a purpose? Obviously getting enough hits in each cell is important, but would logging for say 1 hour plus really give benefits?
Tim, shorter is fine if you're just getting started after new mods and then you can start going longer and longer a you get closer to dialed in. I don't know going over an hour would really have any benefits.
@@GoatRopeGarage same track I was thinking. In a crude thought, have you experimented with adding weight (load) in your vehicles to help with hitting certain cells where more load is applied to the motor. Hey man I really appreciate this series, it's the best out there right now! Watched them all as of 4-19. I'm an engine builder, but never tuned before. I have a 12 Colorado that I fully rebuilt and am turbo-ing soon and decided I'm learning on a 13 cruze bc I have a spare motor for it. Is there anything inherently different about what you're doing here, or will this series get all the bases covered for me? I'd really be interested if you could go over the meth injection tuning steps after you get the series done. (And e85 but I assume that's the exact same just in the different map tables)
I'll do a video on the meth injection, but it's super easy, especially if you're using a boost reference pump driver. As far as E85, you are still tuning the regular tables but there is another one that is a correction table based on the fuel sensor. That shouldn't change as you're always going to shift the fuel table the same percent based on the ethanol content.
i would like to reach out and offer to pay for some small tuning class sessions! mayb nothing crazy mostly simple bolt on cars just to start as a hobby! not sure how to get ahold of me but any help would be great love the channel! I also have HP tuner mpv2
I am, but not all ecus are going to have all channels, if possible try and find equivalent channels that are supported on yours, sometimes the name might just be slightly different
What range of vehicles can the HPtuner work with? What limits the amount of different vehicles available for tuning with one "tuner" Videos are great!!! Can't wait to start a business with this new found skill!
Man, the support for Ls is just overwhelming. I'm on the Dodge side of things but I'm certain I'll gather the needed information. Loving the series so far. Know it's been said several times but I appreciate you putting these content out. Question: I'm bout ready to throw on some bolt on mods (Longtubes + off the shelve cam) on my project car (have a daily), you reckon I throw these on and gradually learn the tunning or learn the tuning before hand? I have the MVPI2 pro going with the Innovate Motorsports DLG1 wideband.
Realize this is an older vid....going thru the vids on your website tuning play list...have been data logging Challenger Hellcat for about 2-yrs using HPT....I notice in your PID list you use a lot of SAE PIDs. I have found when comparing the SAE PID to the corresponding Manufacturers PID (sensor voltage) that the SAE PIDs do not reflect actual conditions. Engine RPM, Accelerator Pedal, and Throttle Position are specific examples since they are changing rapidly. I have found the SAE Engine RPM values off by 1000RPM low when compared to the non SAE PID and validated by the torque converter turbine RPM PID. Have you ever noticed this? And if you have what was the cause if known...PID list too long, polling rate too slow, etc. Thanks
@@GoatRopeGarage Thanks....great info and advice found in no other place! I keep hoping you will do a series on Hellcat tuning even if it was just to go thru the tables and explain some of the table descriptions and labels that don't make sense e.g. dyno flag??? :)
Hey I just ordered a HPT MPVI2 and I’m going to start tuning my 2016 GMC Sierra 5.3/8speed . It is a stock truck at the moment. I’m wanting to disable DOD and tune is for 93 octane . Any advice on anything I should do for 93 octane ?
Nah, not really, you might be able to tweak the high octane spark table a little bit, but other than that, just lean out the PE table a bit and that's the max you're going to get out of a stock vehicle. The rest is torque management stuff.
I know this is biased towards Chevy engines, but does this information carry over to just any engine in general? If I buy HP Tuners for a Ford 4 cylinder for example, does the general theory apply?
SUBSCRIBED! I'm getting into tuning my own with HP. Just stumbled across your vids looking for info. Do you have experience with the 99-04 Mustang GT tuning?
Well. I’m trying to figure out where to start with the tuning. I look at different threads in the forums, and it’s confusing to say the least. I have a 2005 Grand Prix GTP, and the only updates that I’ve done is add headers and 3” DP, catback, CAI, 180 tstat, and 605 Autolite plugs. Smaller pulley to come soon, but not yet. Anyway, some mention before starting changing when the fans, come on and off, making torque management changes, and zeroing out tables. You didn’t mention this in your first videos, so I was wondering if you have already done those changes before doing the videos?
You can but they aren't necessary and are generally what I would consider first steps you can do on a s stock car. With your setup you'd probably benefit pretty well from doing the standard MAF and SD tuning followed by timing and if you do a pulley swap you for sure will have to. You are most likely on the lean side of your stock tune right now, but given it's rich from the factory that's fine but if you start moving more air you need to do the fuel tuning. Regardless of the platform the basics are the same, they are all air pumps and when we change how much air we can pump with it we need to adjust fueling.
When you're talking about PID's, are you referring to a Proportional Integral Derivative control loop or something else? Just staring to watch a couple tuning videos so apologies if this seems basic.
@@GoatRopeGarage im 16 and i would like to dedicate myself to tuning but, i only know basic computing how could i better understand this? I probably need something like "tunning for dummies"

@@GoatRopeGarage sweet, looking forward to the rest of the series!
i would like to reach out and offer to pay for some small tuning class sessions! mayb nothing crazy mostly simple bolt on cars just to start as a hobby! not sure how to get ahold of me but any help would be great love the channel! I also have HP tuner mpv2
Hey quick question are you on the beta software cause some of the channels you are logging I don’t have I can’t pull them up to match yours
I am, but not all ecus are going to have all channels, if possible try and find equivalent channels that are supported on yours, sometimes the name might just be slightly different
@@GoatRopeGarage okay awesome and thank you for the quick response
one question. why are your tps reading 15% at idle ?
I just got into tuning, is this information (along with other videos of yours) relative to tuning Dodges as well?
A lot of the theories are there same but you'll have different systems to content with
What range of vehicles can the HPtuner work with? What limits the amount of different vehicles available for tuning with one "tuner"
Videos are great!!! Can't wait to start a business with this new found skill!
Don’t start a business but start a passion and love doing it where it’s not working but fun and the money will come .
Thank u
Man, the support for Ls is just overwhelming. I'm on the Dodge side of things but I'm certain I'll gather the needed information. Loving the series so far. Know it's been said several times but I appreciate you putting these content out.
Question: I'm bout ready to throw on some bolt on mods (Longtubes + off the shelve cam) on my project car (have a daily), you reckon I throw these on and gradually learn the tunning or learn the tuning before hand? I have the MVPI2 pro going with the Innovate Motorsports DLG1 wideband.
Hey just wondering if you ever got your question answered? I have a similar question and want to know if anyone ever answered yours
Thanks
SAE has to meet a standard and so they are often skewed, TPS is notorious on all platforms for this, if you have the option of non-SAE log it
@@GoatRopeGarage Thanks....great info and advice found in no other place! I keep hoping you will do a series on Hellcat tuning even if it was just to go thru the tables and explain some of the table descriptions and labels that don't make sense e.g. dyno flag??? :)
Noticed there are alot of channels I dont have is that because I dont have pro? Or is there a special place there hiding
Yep, it's all the same, air, fuel, spark
SUBSCRIBED! I'm getting into tuning my own with HP. Just stumbled across your vids looking for info. Do you have experience with the 99-04 Mustang GT tuning?
You ever find out? Got a 02
@@EricR_1 nope
No response anyway
Doing a little
No Ford stuff right now, but given time we might dive in, sorry guys
I noticed you removed some parameters, can you also insert them back?
Yeah, I try to only use the ones I need for that step of tuning
would all these values apply saying tuning gen 3 with drive by cable ?
Not at, but a lot will, it's situational based on the tables you're tuning
Is there a video for the basics of the basic? Starting from which harness to buy and then go from there.
Is it true you need a dyno do do the torque tuning properly?
Nope
Thanks for the info bro. What laptop do you recommend for using hp tuners? I know it has to have windows
Don't need anything too crazy, windows 7 or 10 and anything made in the last 5 or 6 years is more than powerful enough.
@@GoatRopeGarage thanks bro im subscribed from Houston tx 👍🏽
Do you have any experience with tuning the GM 3800 series III (Supercharged L32) motors?
I do not, Jeff, but what kind of issues are you having? The L32's weren't anything too crazy, night be able to help you out regardless.
Hahahaha, no but being an automation programmer I get where you're coming from, it's parameter identification
@@GoatRopeGarage damn lol, I was hoping... I got really excited cause I can tune the crap out of PID's. Thanks for the info, your videos are great
What is a pid?
Parameter identification
@@GoatRopeGarage im 16 and i would like to dedicate myself to tuning but, i only know basic computing how could i better understand this? I probably need something like "tunning for dummies"
I drive a 02 silverado that i just 5.3 swapped and would like to tune myself
@@armandogalvan295 any luck I'm 15
Is there a Goat Rope Garage FB page?
Nope, just the TH-cam
I am so lost...
do you need the pro version to add in your wide band like you did with you aem in the pids?
Nope, just get an wideband with serial and use a serial to USB adapter, way cheaper
@@GoatRopeGarage super sweet, thanks for the awesome videos and quick replies!
Allah made you smart
Ugh changing all these channels sux.
Can’t even find where driver pedal axle torque is.
Cool stuff man keep going!
