Hell yes! Freqin' and Vibin' with gameday! Shout out to Vic for being the biggest piece of shit in gaming history, and a bigger shout out to everyone that loved and related to him. Glad to see you cover this. Aside from the "lets play" that Super Best Friends did, I don't see people talk about this monstrosity enough. Love ya bud
There has always been a stigma against sports games within the video game community, but your videos are helping put a new light on them. I mean I wouldn't have even known that a basketball video game had a story mode directed by Spike Lee were you could play as a ghoul from Fallout.
The servers are no longer active. The offline version of my career in 2k18 is just a bland, generic career mode. It's basically franchise mode, except you can only control your own player.
Over the years, this story seems like less of a MyCareer story and more of a collective trauma dump between several original characters (with the total sleazeball of the group being arguably the most entertaining one). Granted, I still love it; but in a much more ironic sense these days.
The thing about this story is that it's _supposed_ to be about Vic. Vic is the actual main character. But it's a basketball video game, so it has to focus on the basketball player, not the friend. What ends up happening is instead of being a story where we get to see Vic struggling to get by in the shadow of his hugely successful best friend, you just see Vic popping in every now and then to be an annoying asshole. And then he delivers an utterly undeserved emotional farewell at the end, and you don't care because Vic was entirely unsympathetic the entire time up until that point. Simply put, this was the completely wrong medium in which to make/tell this story, but Spike Lee did it anyways.
That scene where Vic snaps at Freq for taking the fall for him all those years ago really hammers home just how tone deaf the writing is. I assume it's supposed to add depth to their relationship by explaining why Freq seems so insistent on covering for his fuckup loser friend. Vic's prospects fell apart from being the fall guy, so Freq feels morally obliged to look after him now that he's become a success. It does add a bit more nuance to what looks like one sided relationship, but it only makes Vic look even worse for taking advantage of his friend's guilt for over a decade and dragging his name through the mud. Then you're expected to feel bad when he dies, and the game tries to explain away his shitty behavior by having his ghost tell us his sob story.
The fact that Freq is short for "Frequency Vibrations" means that some poor writer had to come up with that name while Spike Lee was holding a gun to their head.
Old video, I know. But big props on the video outro background music. Backyard Wrestling was fucking amazing and that riff is burned into my brain. You got a sub out of me there. Ggs my guy.
I skipped every cutscene when i played this game years back. It got so annoying hearing the commenteators saying "freq" every 5 seconds, i had to turn off the volume in the settings 😅
Hair in CG is confusing. Like it took immense effort from Pixar to get the hair right in incredibles. And they have the benefit of not doing it in real time.
A lot of people clown, but I can respect what this story tried to do. ESPECIALLY for a Rated E for everyone game so they can't get too much into things that bring the rating up. People gave Freq a lot of hate, which was forgotten as soon as B Nyce or whatever her name was popped up a couple years later. I think the story while it doesn't click completely is a nice attempt. It would've been nice to have it change based on your gameplay and stuff but I'm not sure Spike is best suited to create non linear stories. His stories have beginnings, middles, and ends, not branching paths. Still I can appreciate it's effort, it might've just been better suited to be made a movie or a show, but for 2k trying to make this happen and for Spike putting it together, it's appreciated.
I hated this story. Vic was the worst 🤦🏾♂️ And that scene with the mum is worse/better when you watch your friend play, and he’s a blonde haired white guy 😅 Edit: 8:05 😂😂😂😭😭 Edit: 8:34 😂😂🤣🤣🤣😭😭😭
Worst story mode I’ve ever played, I knew I couldn’t be the only white guy thinking “my parents are black no matter what” but it’s a spike lee story so I shouldn’t have expected different
The random racism to Asians is exactly what I expect from Spike Lee.
Hell yes! Freqin' and Vibin' with gameday!

This man GameDay got the best soundtrack selection.
SmackDown! 2, MvC2, and even obscure DBZ rpgs from the Super Famicom? Great choice!
Didn't think anyone would ever get the DBZ one!
@@GameDayonYT yeah, man! I love DBZ, and it’s music
"Browner than a third place trophy."
Your content is GOAT'd, man. Going through your whole catalog after TH-cam recommended me a video. Keep it up.
In no way shape or form was I expecting the backyard wrestling menu music to appear, but I'm glad it did.

Do 2k18, the chinesse girl that is the main friend is the most anoying character i ever saw

Dude I don’t know how you made it to the end. I remember I quit after my first NBA game. This story was worse than Wonder Woman 84
I honestly didn't think it would be this long. Thought this would be, at most, a 15 minute video.
@@GameDayonYT well I think it was worth it video was funny and I got to see the rest of the garbage I missed 🤣
FREQUENCY VIBRATIONS!!!

This channel is so damn underrated man. Keep up the great work
You’re back.

15:43 Why does Freq look like a blowup doll here? Hahaha

I love this channel bro 😂 whole video got me crying. I hope you get around to fight night champions story mode one day
Yes! That and Longshot in Madden.
GameDay bet bro I can't wait this channel gonna blow up one day if you keep it up
@@GameDayonYT I still couldn't beat issac frost in that game, even after like 100 tries.

So i googled deformed faces and found this pic
Probably the best use of the I don't know Luger meme on TH-cam.

This story will scar you and make you hate spike lee movies.

13:55 It is pretty easy to mistake baseball for basketball. (like how I did with this mets joke.)

Spike lee managed to make the cringiest and shittiest campaign I’ve ever played in my life.
And showed racism to an Asians for no reason
3:45 🤣😂🤣😂💯 got to subscribe
im loving this channel how the hell you only got 3000
This story feels like written by junior high schooler. Who the hell approved this?? 🤣
Spike lee
Spike got lucky a few times but the bulk of his work is kinda ass, and I already know they're gonna pull my black card for even saying that
Ur high this was one of the best stories I ever played

12:59 Casual racism, ok Spike Lee.
Is it just me or does your character have herpes on his upper lip?
I think he's just herpes, but in human form.

Spike Lee is a hack
I swear i don't remember it being this bad haha.
Yo can we play this on mobile
16:47 lolz
why does your in game character have herpes
k
11:08 I think the "V.G.G. VIC! GOTTA! GO!" moment would be more epic if people play it in 0.25 speed.

The fact that that's your focus is telling.
