- IT'S SO COLD!!!
...and sheep farming plays with a different set of rules when it gets THIS cold.
Over the years, we've come to know the weak spots, and have prepped those areas... but once again, Mother Nature is quick to point out where we missed.
Also weighed some market lambs, and did a two week check up on our little lamb with the broken leg... looks like in spite of her spirit, she needs re-casted.

Thought I better come on here and let you all know while I was editing this video, I realized the cast looked a bit low… so today (a week later) I re-casted a full sized cast and will see how we do in a couple weeks! I’ll keep you all posted with her progress! Fingers crossed!

Awww, Little Kneecap. Cast her for 6 wks without moving the leg, Sandi. and see if that knits the bone. She may limp for life especially in the cold, but not bad. Won't hurt her except that you may have to rewrap every 2 wks without testing the break as she out grows the cast to keep the blood flow positive for healing and leg health. I ❤ that lamb!

I am a lawyer and suburban mom of 4 little kids in Colorado... Needless to say, Canadian sheep farming is about as far away from my wheelhouse as one can get. But I seriously love you and your videos, and my husband thinks I'm totally bonkers 🤣. I suspect it's the midwifery bit that I love, but also your sense of humor and realness. I know I'm not the only one who has fallen down the TH-cam rabbit hole and become a loyal fan! My husband can take his whack comments elsewhere, you and i will enjoy our Friday breeding entertainment together 😶🤫💘🤣

What a great name for Big momma’s baby! Mr. Big! That sweet baby with the broken leg I got so worried when she tried to jump for her mommy. I was watching it at physio therapy while getting heat. Sandi my physio therapist agreed with you wrap that higher. He’s a farmers son and still helps at the family barn with goats and Alpacas. He said, she needs to go higher. He said I’ve become the broken leg guy for all the local farmers who don’t want to bother the farm vet. He said I’m on stand by about 25km range. I laughed. He then requested me to give him the name of your blog I’m obsessed with because we live so close to you. He said the great thing was that Sandi caught it herself that she needs to support higher especially when I showed him the video of the original break. I thought I’d pass on that pass this information back to you from a Physiotherapist who deals with people who have broken bones every single day and is a farmer’s son Still involved in the business during Planting and harvest. Just not the day to day in the animal portion of his dads and siblings industry. Whether I’m at cancer treatment battling brain cancer with all my might or I’m at Physio everyone enjoys the Vlogs by Sand! 💕

Couldnt agree more. Last night i was watching Cami the scottish shepherd, and he referred to sandi and her ability to talk freely to the camera. I truely believe she knows how much we love her and is able to talk to us as if we were right there in the barn, cause her heart is in it.

Oh how I miss Kansas. I was born and raised (for the younger part of my childhood) in Kansas. We unfortunately had to move to Upstate New York, as my parents relocated for their jobs. I spent about 25 years in NY. Then my son and I moved around after I married a man in the Army. Since we split up and ultimately divorced. I moved to New Hampshire (to be closer to family). But now I live in the White Mountains of NH (which wasn't the best decision, when you aren't a fan of harsh winters and crazy amounts of snow). But eventually I'll move frim the mountains to a more southern area of NH. And am going to plan a nice long visit to Kansas, to see family that still live there. And to see members that I havent met yet. My son wants to also see Kansas for himself. Lol Nice to see fellow Kansas folks on the channel.

Hey Sandi, if you have one of those red lightbulbs like you see at the burger joints for warming burgers (250w), you can use that to keep the milk nanny warm. I have one and I have it hooked up through a thermostat so that any time it is near freezing it turns itself on to keep everything warm. It has saved my bacon many times when the temps drop overnight. Just a suggestion.
You do an amazing job with your lambs and the ewes and rams. I think they live an excellent life. God bless you always.

I think it's so great that the lambs are allowed to get to know humanity from the first minute until the moment they go on sale. many breeders who breed animals for slaughter show little humanity. they would rather have let the hypothermic lambs die than put in more work. broken legs would not be taken care of, etc. that's what I like about sandi. Of course she has to do the math too, but things like that take time and help the animal. it seems to her that money is not that important. It is more important that the animals are doing well and only then does the money come. keep it up. we need more farmers like sandi.

The coldest I've seen my horse barn is 16°F...the other day it was 18F...outside windchill is 9 today...don't like it this cold but glad it's killing off the summer bugs!!! Instead of just a light bulb...put a heat bulb in the nanny??? It's what we use here on our central VA farm for the hot water tank room as well as the intra-barn wash rack plumbing to keep pipes from freezing.
I was raised in Michigan but most of my adult life in Tennessee, Arizona, and Texas. I don’t miss shoveling.

Hello Sandi! That lamb with the cast on it's leg is sooo adorable! I know you will do everything you can to help it make a complete recovery! I loved the "nosey neighbor" watching while you checked on the little lamb!😂 Winter makes everything more difficult! It's about 2 degrees Fahrenheit today here in Iowa so we've been dealing with frozen waterers as well! Glad you were able to get The Nanny back up running! My ewes aren't due to lamb until March so hopefully it will warm up before then! Try and stay warm! Looking forward to more videos!

Cold weather is miserable. It causes so many problems especially with waterers. That doesn't count how cold fingers and toes get and start to hurt. Sheep are lucky they have a built on coat. Sandy stay warm and safe spring is closer each day.

I swear that little lamb was complaining that you were picking on her and hollering for her momma. 😆 It has been super cold in Winnipeg too. - 40 C with 70 km/hr gusting winds this morning. Ohhh Burr we are in a windshield advisory in NW Iowa today. It was -13° without the wind. Now we have SE wind at 25 mph. Chores are challenge to keep water running. Bright side we have sunshine and pot of homemade vegetable soup simmering on the stove and homemade buttermilk biscuits. Spring is coming

Praying for your healing and relief. Winters can be brutal.
Also, I found curcumin, turmeric, ginger, thyme, and cumin, added to your food, helps to reduce swelling and relieve pain. I add 1/4 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon of each to my food or tea, depending on how big the dishes are that I am cooking. My tea, is 1/4 teaspoon ginger and 1/2 teaspoon thyme, with 1 to 2 teasoons of raw honey in my hot water, to also relieve sinus congestion, too. I hope you feel better, soon!
I love Sandi's channel. Another channel I use to distract myself, is The Farm on Route 66. They rescue, train and rehome horses. They are a wonderful family.
Cog Hill Farm and Adler's Farm, are a couple more positive Farm channels, too.
There are more good channels, and you probably watch them, too.

Hope the little lamb's foot heals completely this time when it's wrapped up. What about leaving the milk machine door open during the night so it doesn't freeze it doesn't hurt to try I have to leave my kitchen sink door open during this time of year so the pipes don't freeze under the sink. It does get pretty cold 🥶 in Minnesota here too. It went down to -15 last night. I love the name for big mama's boy.

I am a teacher in Asia trying to get through teaching kids in person in the middle of a pandemic.. I come home exhausted.. I know nothing about sheep rearing or would ever own a sheep… but Her videos, with her beautiful sheep, are what I look forward to watching just before I fall asleep. As a rookie ‘farmer’ I am relieved to see that someone as experienced as you still gets frozen lines and buckets. We have goats, chickens and a pig. We invested in a heated hose and use heated buckets in our pens/stalls. We also have ducks so we use a kiddie pool for them. But in Northern Vermont where we are it’s been brutally cold. -12° F at 5:30 am today! Without fail something somewhere is frozen!
