Dom is 1 of the drumming masters, his sense of time, sound, colors and style make him unique. Dom knows how to constuct solos, what and what not to play, it's why this man can can hold master drum classes throughout the world. And BTW Doms a nice dude as well.
I was at this. He gave one of the best motivational speeches I have ever been in attendance of. Before he played he explained how much he loves his new HHX setup, and the benefits of playing open handed. This isn't a conventional rock solo, nor should it be compared to one.
knows the instrument has excellent technique, knows how the get the sounds he wants out of the various pieces of the instrument. love that cymbal riff at the beginning. top notch peace )
I love Dom, I`ve seen lot of videos with him... He is great... Solo - very nice... It`s very great with balance... One of the most awesome solos I`ve ever heard.... THANX FOR YOU DOM!!!
so true! i think regardless of style and even maybe instrument this guy will leave you breathless hes just a musical inspiration to everyone... and seems to be the nicest guy to walk the planet! ha
@Fartermcfart67 hes actually very good in technique, but he isnt known for his drumming hes known for his teaching, he is one of the best instructors out there, he knows and has developed many techniques
I live a block away from him. I'm good friends with his son :) Trust me, his style is a lot different than others. And he can literally beat you down with the drums sticks. He's a legend
@elrojomuerto6x he's a great drummer with a very unique style, but some of his motions are fulminant and a little bit aggressive, he's playing like a punisher :)
This show was in São Paulo in Brazil in a festival called Batuka! Brasil International Drum Fest! Dom Famularo played there 07/18/2010 with John Riley (EUA), Fernando Amaro (BR) and Christiano Rocha (BR). I was there and was a great show. He's Very Good! And i could get his autograph.
You may be right about the musician part but his solos are sooo tasteful and full of finesse and I tend to forget about his studio experience. Take Dennis Chambers for example he has a black hole of a pocket and he has been on albums that my parents grew up listening to but everybody loves him for his chops and fast solos....
i have some points to make about this guy. 1 he is a really nice guy i met him at drummer live this year. 2 he does some really wierd things sort of like a puppet lol (amazin tho he is) 3. he looks so much like my maths teacher its scary
@mschmidt163 with dom i would imagine its a feel thing with him. hes such an emotion based drummer. He is a morller technician but i would imagine he goes with whatever works based upon the situation,
Even if you are not playing against a metronome you could still be off. Like if i was playing a standard rock-beat and accidentally played a flam between my bassdrum and hi-het and my snare and hi-hat
good work DOM ;).....you are the best ! ! ! but my drum solo is inspired by steve smith :) look and comment thansk people.....p.s i use muffle for my drum kit....:)
I actually agree with you skinnymoo....im not a big fan of this solo either... i think he can do much better. There weren't many things covered in that solo, to consider it godly..
Seriously? Dom is not only a Sabian endorser, but one of their top spokespersons. He can have all the cymbals he wants just by asking. Why would he even NEED to steal a cymbal?
I can't think of any. I remember when i was studying with a student of his, Dean Sanderson in NJ, he said Journey made him an offer in the late 80s and he turned it down. Other than that, I have no idea except for a handful of one-off shows.
They know how to do all that difficult stuff, but they don't need to let everybody know. They know. that's what matters - go to the olympic games for drummers all you "best drummers in the world" - it's goin' the wrong way. cheers
here's what I think: is there a single video on youtube, where famularo plays with a band? He's only playin' drum battles or solos or maybe clinics. NOT A SINGLE VIDEO ABOUT BANDPLAYING. NO GROOVE.
Rest in peace to the World’s Happiest Drummer. What an inspiration. Love ya Dom.
RIP Dom, I loved all the clinics you did on Long Island and the lesson I took with you at the Wis-Dom Drum Shed! Thanks for the inspiration♥
Dom is a great example of uninhibited expression. What a creative an explosive solo - not simply an expose' of technique... I love it! Thx Dom

He may not be the best drummer, but he certainly is the coolest! You can se on his face that hes not only feeling the beat, He IS the beat!!
LOVE IT DOM! So fun to listen to you play.....especially with the volumn up!
That was INCREDIBLE!!!!! Amazing solo!
As a drummer of 30yrs experience iam pained and also delighted to admit that I've only just found this amazing human. ❤❤❤
2:28
his double bass drum stroke roll is amazing :o
holy shit!!! I have this drum set! i had no idea this video was up!! they ordered my kit, he played on them and i bought them!
Such a sad loss. a beautiful human who loved drums and drumming and sharing his passion
I love Dom, I`ve seen lot of videos with him... He is great... Solo - very nice... It`s very great with balance... One of the most awesome solos I`ve ever heard.... THANX FOR YOU DOM!!!
and this.is why hes WORLDS.drum ambassador.

wow that's some impressive foot speed! i've only read Dom's print stuff this is the first time i've seen him play. killer!
And the coolest. Just look how happy he is!:L Mind you if I could play drums like that I'd never stop smiling either!
I live a block away from him. I'm good friends with his son :) Trust me, his style is a lot different than others. And he can literally beat you down with the drums sticks. He's a legend
He's still Long Island right?
Cracks me up....his arms are amazing :)
god i almost just shed a tear... amazing...
@elrojomuerto6x he's a great drummer with a very unique style, but some of his motions are fulminant and a little bit aggressive, he's playing like a punisher :)
I had dinner with the guy about 10 years ago in Vancouver,I am tall at 6'4" hes like 7' tall man what a massive heavy hitting drummer
Rockin the tie!
This show was in São Paulo in Brazil in a festival called Batuka! Brasil International Drum Fest!

I still love this video! Never gets old!
New name for dom, the wizard!! Magic......!!!!
im sorry but this guy is far from crap he is a legend and a half
i just bought that higher 18" china he's playing, best china cymbal i have EVER played
1:26 FUCK YEAH
You may be right about the musician part but his solos are sooo tasteful and full of finesse and I tend to forget about his studio experience. the teacher rulzzzzz 8)
His Feet Here Are Killer And He'd Only Been Playing Match Grip For 3-4 Years At This Point! Absolute MONSTER Solo!!!!!!!!
at least his glasses still intact
😲😲😲😲😲😲😲
SICK! Rest in Power Dom!
i was talkin to this guy at drumfest last year but didnt know who he was then lol. i didnt even know he was famous, wish id got his autograph now
LUV YA DOM !
Because you want to hit the "top" of it, not the side, for the best sound. It's just easier to hit that sweet spot when it's on an angle like that.
i have some points to make about this guy. 1 he is a really nice guy i met him at drummer live this year. 2 he does some really wierd things sort of like a puppet lol (amazin tho he is) 3. he looks so much like my maths teacher its scary

@timotdrums1 ...or a portnoy/richardson fan.
love the dynamics
he s my teacher
he's torturing the drumkit
exelente cuando volvera a victoria tamaulipas mexico!!!
Dude. Dom will always surprise you with his playing. . 3:57 ... Just randomly starts playing kick at Death-Metal speed.. because he can.
buddy rich said one time "someimes less is more"
ah yeah, I have to agree with that. although sometimes I feel that double bass peddles are overused :)
i saw him live yeeeears ago. really amazing. someone asked if he played heel up or heel down but he never got around to answering it!!!! anyone know?
@Fartermcfart67 He would take you to school.
amazing its sound like double base but it is only the right foot
1:21 Dom Famularo on drugs
5 Stars definitely.
youre definately right!
wow, how did he do his thing at 2:29. He did a buzz roll and pull out his stick. Cool!
I had no idea Phil Jackson was that sick at set
Even if you are not playing against a metronome you could still be off. Like if i was playing a standard rock-beat and accidentally played a flam between my bassdrum and hi-het and my snare and hi-hat
Dat Snare♥
1:26 Dom Famularo on acid
un saluto da Maitreya Sorrentino.
1:28 left hand
😂😂😂😂
he's played for LOADS of people world over!
playing a flam would't put you out of time, because if the main note is on the doown beat it's still in time.
@lucas266 Who TAUGHT Bozzio? Yup.
thats like asking him if playing open handed is necessary
well said
I dare anyone to play this video for the first time without audio, and not laugh.
he coaches Igor Falecki now he will surely become as good as the master :)
Is this daniel adairs grandpa? :D:D
good work DOM ;).....you are the best ! ! ! but my drum solo is inspired by steve smith :) look and comment thansk people.....p.s i use muffle for my drum kit....:)
i'm sorry, i can't tell if this dude is joking or not.... i just don't see it.
I actually agree with you skinnymoo....im not a big fan of this solo either... i think he can do much better. There weren't many things covered in that solo, to consider it godly..
I was his grand student, since my teacher was his student at the time.
Right?
It is a solo. It is played on drums. It is a drumsolo :D
why you are so amazed by this drum solo if everyone of you could play this?????
Seriously? Dom is not only a Sabian endorser, but one of their top spokespersons. He can have all the cymbals he wants just by asking. Why would he even NEED to steal a cymbal?
JJJeeebaniutki dziadek ;-)
please tell me what band he played with??
I can't think of any. I remember when i was studying with a student of his, Dean Sanderson in NJ, he said Journey made him an offer in the late 80s and he turned it down. Other than that, I have no idea except for a handful of one-off shows.
@crimn are a 13 year old barker fan??
who is barker??, and i am 80 yrs old, and a buddy rich fan. he is dead if you didn't know.
Actually I hate it. :S
But theres luckily space for both you, Mr Famularo and myself in this world.
They know how to do all that difficult stuff, but they don't need to let everybody know. They know. that's what matters - go to the olympic games for drummers all you "best drummers in the world" - it's goin' the wrong way. cheers
@csillagasz what do you mean by that??
How did he managed to make those chinas sound like he muted them right after hitting them? At 1:34
Dave weckl.!
no doubt, he has some amazingly fast feet.
word
does he play open handed?
how can his timing be off? he isnt' playing against any backing so, there isn't really a pulse, it could be in any time signature.
haha oops moeller
2019
I bet Lars Ulrich could do that if he wanted to...
im not really sure what to think.. sometimes it's cool, and then sometimes it seems like he's just hitting drums and thrashin' the cymbals.
everybody just seems to think that if it's an older person with fast foot technique, they must just be using single foot. haha.
He is soooo strange!!
may con el tren
he is damn good. but isn't the double bass a bit unnecessary ?
here's what I think:
is there a single video on youtube, where famularo plays with a band? He's only playin' drum battles or solos or maybe clinics. NOT A SINGLE VIDEO ABOUT BANDPLAYING. NO GROOVE.
