Thanks man, I was quick to see how dangerous it was going to be once I started. Figure it was worth the effort just to see this old girl a little lower.
Oh I know eh, stepped control arms are sketchy. I'm notching the front cross member while I have the car disassembled. Check out my other videos for updates 🤘
Yeah, it would be terrible. The suspension sits below the scrub line so it wouldn't be good. Like I said, this is a good way to see how it'll look with the drop but it's not a safe way at all to run the car. I removed the spacers and cut the coils after.
OK great, better solution. It is good to see that younger people are still interested in old cars. I got a 49 Pontiac streamliner, I put a Jaguar front clip under it, not an easy solution due to the location of the springtowers. But it handles now like a normal car, powersteering, powerbrakes , stabiliserbar.@@badomanclassics
I put spacers on the lower control arms with my '54 chevy I used to have. It worked great for years and rode exactly the same as it did stock as opposed to cutting coil springs. It's exactly the same as steping the control arms but way quicker and easier. Everybody's already said this but if those rivets would've let go without that bottom plate being supported you would've been fucked lol
Yeah it seemed sketchy with the spacer being as large as it was, it sat way below the front scrub line. It's all back to normal now and the springs are cut. I'm also putting an LS in it and redoing the rear suspension
@@badomanclassics yeah man for sure. I know the LS is going to be much lighter than the 235. I'm not sure if you had a powerglide or the 3 speed but any transmission on earth is lighter than the powerglide lol.
It looks awesome! I’d definitely buy it but I think I got a few years before I’ll be ready to handle something that might have a lot of mechanical issues down the way
It was a powerglide yes. I sold the drivetrain to another fella doing a restoration. I've installed a 327 and a 4 speed with overdrive instead. Still in the works, I'll post an update soon.
@@badomanclassics great decision. I live in Oklahoma and I betcha there are very few transmission guy who knows how to remain a hydromatic I look forward to your project.

I appreciate your feedback and that you watched the video, but I would please ask that you also understand I'm not so incompetent to see how unsafe it is. Years ago, I lowered my 54 Ford that way, BUT, used a solid, 1"x 2" steel bar as a lowering block, held in with 8 grade 8 bolts w/ lock nuts and 6 weld points per side. Lowered the front 2", and was still in car when I sold it 6 years later.
Haha, If it weren't for hot rodders and customs we'd all be driving minivans and station wagons. Pontiac had their turn and they made plenty of cars. This one's in my possession so I'll do with it as I desire. If you'd like to save it you're more than welcome to purchase it and undo all I have done.

looks good lowered, but it is a death wish to do it like that.
Agreed. It was a great way to see how it looks, but should not be done. I cut the coils and removed the spacers.

Killer ride dude. the look is way kool. well done.
Thanks brother. It helped me get an idea on how low I wanted it. Once my mind was made up I cut the springs and removed those deadly spacers.
Love the way the car looks ❤. Makes me want to get one
Thanks brother 🤘
I would rather cut the coils in the front.
You betcha man, once I saw how this looked I took it apart and cut the coils

Hahaha, yeah the carb & fuel pump was not happy. A couple linkages were missing from the carb, took a while to find the correct ones.

I completely agree!
Ford explorer springs from a 96 i believe works on those

Why not cut the front springs?
Cutting the springs alters the geometry of the suspension. I ended up doing just that. If you read the description of the video. 👍
You should cut the front springs
I did cut the springs afterwards

Dropped spindles from fat man is the right way to go, or you cut 1 coil off the front spring's , will still have alignment adjustment, and a 2 drop
They're pretty costly to get up in Canada
That looks totally ridiculous and it’s totally unsafe you drive that the way it is and you’re gonna die!
