  • @danielraether3815

    I've been traveling to Bismark from Eau claire alot for work and have wanted to bring some ice fishing gear along once ice is in. How is it you know a slough or lake is accessible if there is no boat landing? It seems to me that N.D. has minimal public land or access, so what tells you that your allowed to fish there?

    • @flaasome
      @flaasome 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If land is posted or not is usually a representation of accessible. I respect fencing as the same. If there is crop land up to the lake without posted signs or fencing it is typically open to public. The trick is finding a road close enough to minimize your walk I've found! 4 poles/person within 150 feet of them (tip ups etc.) largest perch record is still in place going on 40 years at almost 3 pounds!

    Awesome show, but when it comes to these little sloughs. Why, why does a person mention an area. Social media is killing hunting and fishing. Flocks the million people that don't put effort in but relies on social media to tell them and leaves the guys that bust their ass in the dirt

  • @crowman5936
    @crowman5936 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You would think of all the specialized gear they have you would think they would have a fish rag to wipe their hands on instead of their pant leg. Bet there gear smells good after a day in a closed truck in the sun.

    So when you say slough, are these lakes in old cut off river channels or backwaters, or is that just a local ND term for any small marshy lake?

    • @damohanson5393
      @damohanson5393 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would appreciate a definition, as well, of what you guys consider a “ marsh “ lake or slough

    • @InDepthOutdoorsTV

      A slough is a small body of water, typically shallow with very little structure, often surrounded by farmland.

    I wish a lot more ND sloughs had Crappies, but I also realize that Crappies would be quickly decimated by ice fisherman. Crappies are just too vulnerable during winter on small lakes. Maybe Game and Fish would consider putting Crappies in some lakes/sloughs and make them off limits to ice fisherman or else make the limit so severe (one or two) that it would make it difficult to fish them out.

    • @InDepthOutdoorsTV
      @InDepthOutdoorsTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, crappie are particularly vulnerable during the winter. We didn't know there were any crappie in that slough. Evidently there's at least one. 👍

    • @ronaldkulas5748
      @ronaldkulas5748 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@InDepthOutdoorsTV My heart skipped a beat when I saw that Crappie. Maybe there is hope. My son and I have often wondered why Game and Fish does not seem to care about Crappies, but there is no doubt that they are very vulnerable during winter. It would take some intelligent management to successfully sustain them in ND small lakes. Thanks for your quick reply.
