Cbbartelt Thank you! " Transcends her suffering?" What a ridiculous statement! If anything, she "Transcends her circumstances" but don't we all do that everyday? And one of my motivations to make my life the best it can be is Mandy Harvey! I still get misty-eyed when I watch her on AGT during her Golden Buzzer audition. Suffering? Mandy? Not a chance in Hell!

She is deaf because Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome took her hearing. Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome causes chronic pain. It causes joint pain, subluxations, and dislocations. EDS causes gastrointestinal issues. It causes problens in every part of your body that contains connective tissue. Thank you Mandy for raising awareness of EDS and all of us that suffer with it. ❤

I'm deaf, but not from birth so I know what things sound like. When I get upset, I try to sing to calm myself down, but every time I just feel worse because I know I don't sound right. I wasn't gonna win any awards before I lost my hearing, but I could carry a tune. I'm a musical theatre nerd who can't hear the music, so I can kiss any hope of getting the lead good bye. But Mandy shows me that, while it is difficult, it is decidedly not impossible. I appreciate that so much.
Have you seen her technique of sitting in front of a mirror with her tuner and feeling where the notes happen in her throat? Then she draws on herself so she knows how to repeat the notes she creates. Pretty sure she's a higher lifeform. :)

Hi !! It's really sad to hear your story 😢..I'm not deaf so I dont know how it's like or how it feels to be deaf but I just cannot imagine not being able to sing specially considering the fact that that's my favourite thing to do in my life , but I'd love to help ...download an electric tuner ( I'd recommend Total Energy Tuner or Tuner T1) ....then try singing the basic notes ( starting with C ) ..when you hit a note perfectly keep singing that note and feel it in your throat ( like try to remember that note ) repeat that for all the notes...then when you want to sing a song , since you know the pitches by memory,,,, you'll be able to sing it ♥ 🎶 ❤ 💖 ✨!!!!!!! I know it isn't as easy as it looks but hope that helped in some way !!!! Blessings from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 🙏 🙌 ✨ ❤

This was one of my favorites from AGT.
I'm a 51yr old homeless using a phone I found in a dumpster, roaming around from street to street constantly looking for a WiFi connection so I can watch TH-cam videos.
After 30 plus years of addiction and alcoholism, I was begging for the ultimate end. I had it all planned. Then I found a video of a deaf singer and motivational speaker. In a short speech, one line has stuck, "I haven't found that good place yet, but I can see it...... don't give up just because it's difficult".
I've been clean and sober for over two years. It's been difficult and I'm not in that good place yet. But I can see it, and I can't give up just because it's difficult.
Mandy changed my life; saved my life. It may not seem like much, but it changed the world because I'm still in it and a better person than I was.
May God forgive me for the time I've wasted

A person that doesn't have hearing issues can't possibly know what it's like to not have hearing. My hearing is not impared but I have several friends that are deaf, and several of them play instruments, and they don't listen to but they feel music. She has found a way to use her other senses to compensate for it. Check this out:
If you have a guitar, any guitar even a plastic toy, pluck a string and note how well you hear it. Then put your chin up against the body of the guitar and pluck the same string.
You actually "hear" it a heck of a lot better from your chin. Because of vibrations. Sound is vibrations. That's how she does it, and because she's gifted and has a massive amount of love for music and performing and sharing her music.

@@jackschitt7783 I play guitar. I think singing with deaf is harder to know if you sing the right pitch. Instruments have the exact pitch in each note if you play the right key then the song works. But I don't think she can hear if she's singing the right pitch, I think.
I came straight to this video from her golden buzzer performance. Not only is it an amazing song and video, but what a beautiful woman she has grown into. The world needs to know her more.

I hadn't ever heard of her before AGT.
I bought my Mother the box set of Mandy Harvey's CD's for Christmas and explained to her that this woman has our disease (nerve deafness; we both wear powerful hearing aids) but that she got sick and actually lost all her hearing but still sings better than most hearing people. My Mom can't get over how she never knew about this great Jazz/Pop-Rock singer. I love this video because it shows how deaf and hard of hearing people "hear" and speak through vibrations and confidence in their voice. God bless Mandy Harvey.

I’m crying because this video has subtitles. I’m hard of hearing, and I’ve had to fight all my life for subtitles for audiovisual material used in school. It’s been an uphill battle. Most auto generated subtitles aren’t always accurate. The fact that this video has subtitles...it blows me out of the water. ❤️ Grateful for you Mandy
