Hi all, for the ones who still have this issue! i've had the same problem... fixed it by opening up the ECU and checked all the pins in there where the 'scart goes on to' (sorry for the bad english) seems to be that putting the ECU right on the engine makes the PCB warm and melts some of the Solder points on the pins which makes them drop a little bit and make them giving a bad connection on the scart cable... you can resolder them and pull them out a little bit making sure every pin has the same height again... this should fix all the issues the fiat stilo has... clear the ECU error codes with an OBD cause it stores the errors on it. this fixed my issues..oh and one other thing, i re-moved the ECU right next to the battery under the battery cover so this wont happen again. hope this will help at least some people... cause it's a nice car!
And spray all electrical connections on ecu and under the fuse box next to the battery with contact spray first. then look at the ecu pins then move ecu on a cooler place like the cover of the batery.100% it will be fixed
Happened to my Fiat Stilo, we had to change ECU( Electronic control unit ), costed around 750 Euros. After that all problems were gone. Car had around 110.000Km +/- when that happened. P.S And the cause of that was that ECU was overheating a lot as mechanic said, he couldn't do anything to repair it, so we had to order a new 1.
+Atiq Ur Rehman it could happen any time, during drive or during startup, the motor just stopped working and painel was showing , Problem ABS, Problem ASR and so on, had to turn off car with the keys and on again, some time later car didnt even start. And as I said our solution was and ECU unit, we went to the FIAT store and the mechanicans ordered us a new 1 , after they changed it all problems were gone. Everything works awesomly untill now >)
it's from 2012, but for anyone who have this problem or a similar , the problem cause is the ECU. Check the Earth wire connected under the ECU Screw, Clean it and screw it back, otherwise you need to disassemble the ECU by taking it off and take the black Plastic cover off by removing the silicon around the Ecu then Check the connector pins and resold them well. A very happy Fiat stilo owner :'(
The ecu is located under the hood. In 1.6engine you have to remove the engine cover and the you can see in the left side under the cove some box with 2 big cables wired to it. Take the cables off and the screws then you can proceed with the fixing. You can search for a video name . Easy ecu fix fiat stilo. That was the video name as i remember. Hope it helps. Good luck :)
Hi the problem is the airbag connector which is under the seat you can buy on ebay it is from 45€ to 75€ I think it is bad quality ( common problem with these cars) you can see the car computer is telling you " airbag bad connection" and the computer is blocking you to start the engine it is just the security reasons ( yello lamp, car with lock)

Its the rpm sensor, no doubt about it, trust me. when the sensor cools down it works again, but when it heats up, it cuts the engine and gives those warning lights. wait till it cools down, and you will have your car running again, and change the sensor right away.

It sounds like the immobilizer ain't deactivated! There is hand written at page 2 in the manual an "Electric Code"? What's the purpose and how to use it? Would be very nice to get the car running! :-)
Bad conection from the ECU and body computer . Lock and car light it mean immo problem. Is a message on lcd panel: Car security failure loose...This problem mean : the code of the transponder key is not recived by the ECU . check the wires and couples . If is not solved , open the ECU and inspect for bad soldering. good luck!
For anyone wanting more info now in 2016 - the 'car security' was on - he needed to push the unlock button on the key to start the car. Also, starting a Stilo with the lights on is asking for trouble!
really?!??! i always start with the lights on. the worst thing about my car is if 1 bulb doesnt work my entire backlight turns in to a carnival. like i brake and the fog light and the right indicator go on
do not forget to make a proper earth cable to ECU after . stilos a wery sensitive to power loss. I would recommend to replace any wyire you can to thiker , and ad an adicional earth wyire to engine block , and check plug in conection, for bad contact . ( sorry for my English). It workt fine for me. Ibought troublefull stilo 5years ago did all the things ,and after I have no trouble.
I had a similar problem. Ended up being the ecu connection pins, an easy fix. After many years of Stilo ownership I would suggest A few extra high quality earth straps, Batt/ ground engine/chassis. If your battery is not 100% on start up any voltage drop can cause false codes as well. The air back sensor passenger side is common knowledge now I hope. My Stilo never codes now, is economical and pretty long legged for a 1.6. Stilo=Character
Loose connection, is the bad translation. It means - lost connection .(between main ECU and the body ecu) check the plug in conections, or replace the ecu on the engine
Je reviens vers vous pour ce problème ECU si après avoir refait les soudures de l'ECU au niveau des connectiques de prises (il faut ouvrir ECU en le chauffant légèrement autour), si le problème persiste il faut changer l'ECU après changement de celui-ci il faut qu'il se reprogramme, pour cela mettre le contact et accélérè à plus de 5000 tr/mn à 5 reprises, recouper le contact et miracle il est reprogrammer. Ceci fonctionne avec un ECU neuf bien sûr pour ma part.
the choke is the problem. the ecu connections get lose and the choke doesnt work. its a pretty stupid problem if you ask me. if you dont want to spend a chunk of money for a new ecu you can just give it the slightest of gas while cranking it.
Had the same problem with my 1.2 (2002) and i only checked under the seat and found and electric... thing... (Sorry about my english, dont really know these words) I didnt really do anything with it, only hold it with my hand hand and looked it at it. Started the car and it was gone :P So i was only saying, check that thing under your seat with lots of wires and stuff, it might be reason for that.
If you still have this problem!!! Use contact spray on the computer mounted on top of the head of the motor and move the ecu to the left.before doing this take positive of battery .and Bob's your uncle.
what i did with the car,if it wont start: Set the car in free and pull on the hand brakes. try to start and keep revving,once it starts keep it around 4000RPM. And quickly when the car turns on press for 5 till 10 seconds on de ASR button at the mid console,so it wont check the ASR in startup.

The problem is that my car has this error 3-4 times and then it's start's ok! it work's fine for 3-4 hours of driving....and then it dies again. In my diesel stilo had same problems, and fix was to buy new car battery. old was around 11Volts. Finland cold winter kills battery in no time. Its much cheaper than ecu fix. Have you solve your problem btw?
not a problem in the battery, the problem is in the ignition cable does not know his name but I changed it and now fallen slightly. I think that's the problem.
asr, esp, ebd, and lost connection, are ecu errors, u can change all the sensors u want but the problem will return shortly after. Disassemble the ecu and check: Connection pins, 70% have blown them, due to motor overheating and holes, 20% capacitors / resistors, and other inherent components, 10% bad ecu!!! , replace the faulty integrated circuit and its reprogramming. This is a ECU fault. High engine temperature makes faults in ECU or even can damage it. ECU must be moved to a different location, for example on the rear engine bulkhead.

Uhm,Not true,It checks even during a starting procedure. @ the problem : Turn off the car,get the key out and lock/unlock the car with the remote,and then try to start,it helps for the most times,but go to the dealer/garage to let it get fixed.
i not know the problem but i have my car to the workshop and they look at it and fix the problems and all problems was then fixed cost around 450 € but that was in a school so those who study car mecanics fixed that so thats cheaper then so it can be maybe doubble that price (900€) in a "real" workshop. If you would have a car whit that problems and a car from the -90's it would start but newer cars for safety the car not start because the "not start thing" will not start the car becuase its some problems on it

Hello Le probleme vient de l'ecu, j'avais le meme probleme, en faite il faut demonter l'ecu l'ouvrir est refaire toute les soudures au niveau des pins des 2 fiches avec un fer à souder de 18W antex par ex, puis remonter le tout est en profiter pour deplacer L' ecu du moteur est le fixer sur le coté de la batterie est pour moi Yesssss ça refonctionne comme au premier jour.

I had the same! Soulution is to change the ignition key lock! It worked for me...

For engine 1.6 103hp it is 90% chance of ploblem with motor ECU itself.

My 2002 Stilo 80 connectors under the seat removed. tin, and the connection is no longer worries.

stupid video about what? i want to get rid of that noise not watch a video showing what i am beginning to hate that beeping noise my warning light comes on about changing my rear indicator and stop light with that beeping noise but my light are ok i want to know how to stop it not watch ten minutes of a video playing what i dont want to see SO WHAT IS THE POINT IT HOW DO i SOLVE THE PROBLEM
