This is a classic example of expectations coloring your evaluation. If you come into all of this new Equilibrium expecting their usual fast, bouncy folk style, then you can't help but be let down. If you come into this from the perspective of someone who simply enjoys good metal, you'll realize that they just dropped an album with some A+ melodeath which includes enough orchestral/major key type elements to keep some of that Equilibrium flavor. This song is really, really, really well done. So is prey, for example. If those songs were on a new Amon Amarth or Eluveitie album, people would be jumping for joy, because it would match up more with their expectations.
tho i do agree 100%,, it doesnt help when my Equilibrium playlist has this then follows up with Heimwarts,,i cant help but wish for those tracks again, and theres nothing wrong with that,,i look at bands like Insomnium,,yes they evolve but they stayed true to their roots,,and a big reason for that is a stable line up, all original members still there im pretty sure,,line up changes really changed this bands path,, i dont think this wouldve been their style if the siblings were still there, i dont include Helge in that mainly bcos Robse was a great replacement in the beginning, watch a YT vid where the past members talk about the new ep release,,listen to Sandra saying its important to remember the original fans , we must always be Equilibrium to them,,
Awesome song! And I have to say: my 1 year old son absolutely loves this song. He can be impossible to feed sometimes, but when I play this song he immediately stops screaming and just sits still and listens, and eat! And of course waiving his arms as if he`s playing the drums. And for this: I thank you!
My now 1 year old little girls had a time around 3-6 months were they didn't selpt in very well.... Equilibrium - Der ewige Sieg and some rythmic swinging and at the second playthrough they were sleeping. Awsome...

This a masterpiece of German Metal, I like everything about it, the hard guitars, the fluctuating rhythm, the text, the synthisizer, the orchestral elements......wow! Simply good! I guess I listened to it a couple of times on each day of the last 2 weeks, since I found it here on TH-cam!! Loud is not loud enough!!! ^^
As a big fan of bands like Kataklysm, I'm very pleased by this. I know many of the old hard fans are upset but personally I see an upgrade, just my taste, people normally complain because their bands go soft, Equilibrium just did the opposite and I love it!😊
Hearing all these new songs sets me in a really grim mood. Not because they are not good or something, but because Equilibrium's "Blut im Auge" got me into folk metal along with Ensiferum and Eluveitie. I thought that as one of my favourite bands I could always come back to it and hear what I enjoy no matter what after scouring through smaller bands. Now with this album this feeling is gone. It's like separation from an old friend that you really liked. I understand that the band wants to evolve, become greater and get new audience and I can't do anything with it. Equilibrium I wish you good luck with this new style and I hope you'll get many fans.

I see what you mean but I still love this band and I actually really like this change because it's just as good as what they used to be in my opinion I just love the epicness.
After now having listened to the whole new album, i'm in the same boat as well :( I will give the album a couple more chances (maybe it will grow on me), but for now the only song i liked from the get-go is Erwachen. About 6 years ago i was searching for a band which would combine epic & folk metal and stumbled upon Equilibrium; after hearing songs like "Widdar's Hallen" und "Blut im Auge" - and understanding the german language, i fell in love with the band. Then Helge left and that high-pitched schrieking voice (and those awesome "JAAAA!") with him. But ok, Robse's voice was deeper and more growly, which gave songs like "Verbrannnte Erde" a more profound & serious feeling, so i wasn't too upset with the change. Then Andy & Sandra left, but their musical influence was still imprinted on the Erdentempel album, which remains one of my favorite albums to this day... Sadly it seems that the band's overall thematical direction changed after that. Anyway, i'll just keep on hoping for another "Erdentempel" 2 years in the future; if it won't come, i guess i'll have to find a new favourite epic folk metal band :(

I love their folky stuff, I love this too. It's always the same when a band branches out, people whinging it doesn't sound like their previous albums. Newsflash: they already made Sagas. The best bands don't sound the same from album to album and I get that the difference is striking and maybe even a little jarring, but it's good music. Equilibrium don't owe anyone an epic viking album. They are artists doing their own thing. If you don't like it, that's your prerogative. It is also theirs to decide their own direction.

I have to admit, i didn't expect too much after their last videos but I'm surprised in a positive way. It can't compete with the songs of the last album, but it's a lot better than Born To Be Epic or Prey in every way.
Born to be epic isn't a song that you can compare with something else ;D it's not made in a serious way ;) but it always makes me happy, the cheezy lyrics and the trippy flutes ;D the whole thing is super funny :D

Was sind den Equilibriums Wurzeln? Die Band war seit jeher dafür bekannt, sehr facettenreiche Musik zu produzieren. Nichts mit "nur Wikinger und Folklore-Elemente". Sondern auch mal Humor, Krach, finstere Sounds usw. Born to be Epic war als Scherz gedacht. Darf man machen. ;) Prey mag sich zwar sehr nach Amon Amarth anhören, ist aber trotzdem gut. Und Eternal Destination ist mega. Die beiden Track by Track-Videos machen auch Lust auf mehr.

Ich würde mir wünschen, dass sie diese ernste Schiene etwas konsequenter befahren, denn das steht ihnen verdammt gut zu Gesicht. Partykracher für Liveauftritte hat man doch nun genug :)

People are complaining about the roots of equilibrium, but equilibrium had been, always, a broken-scheme band with originality in their songs. I do like the new CD as much as others, it's obvious that the new CD is zuu diferent if you gonna compare it from among the others, but it's a GREAT CD!!! So, keep with the GOOD music and don't stop to hear this kind of tracks!! Edit: Either Robert as Helge have a good pitch in his voice, it's just that IS DIFFERENT but both are great! My humble opinion!! .l..l
I think it's great because when equilibrium makes an album called Armageddon I want it to sound like the apocalypse. We already have a sagas and an erdentempel - lets have something apocalyptic now (:
I'm sorry, I know I'm the 1000th person who says that, but I just wanted to say that it's really sad for me that they left their totally awsome and epic viking/folk style! I really loved their older songs like Blut im Auge and Waldschrein. I don't say that the new sons aren't good, but that folky epicness is missing. I really really hope their future work will be more folky and more like the older stuff - I'm not telling you to stop playing in your new style, but I'll be really happy to hear some more songs like the older ones! No matter what these other guys in this comment section say, keep doing you! Artists change their style from time to time, they explore new sounds, they grow, that's what progress is all about. If they wouldn't change, they wouldn't make progress, they wouldn't be happy making music that sounds "similar to their popular/old songs" for eternity. I certainly like the new album very much and still listen to it on a weekly basis all the way through. Macht weiter so!
Agreed! I like all of their stuff, but this album is awesome. I prefer the darker, more serious sound. They definitely still have a lot of that folk melody stuff going on too, so I don't see why people are complaining.
None of the new songs has made the same kind of impact as Sagas or Rekreatur made. They are good songs, but I'm missing the melodies like in "Blut im Auge", "Unbesiegt" and "Kurzes Epos". Maybe these songs will open up by listening them a few more times, though.
Fully agree. Prey was weird, Born To Be Epic was weird, Eternal Destination is weird. Not bad, just really not even remotely giving me the same shivers that half of Erdentempel gave me two years ago, and even on there was I starting to go become wary.
Very mixed reviews on this song. Maybe they should of released one of the folk songs instead to qwell the haters. I loved the song despite it being darker. The part around 3:30 is my favorite. Everyone will have their own view of course.
Having discovered this band with Wirsthaus Gaudi, I just cannot take them seriously in the beginning of the clip when they're just standing around brooding, all serious like. But once the music kicks in, it immediately gets much better.
Guys, it's a song about war. It's ok if it's not folk metal. Kinda hard to perform a song about such a somber topic with fucking ocarinas squealing out happy ass chords.
I dig this. A heavier epic tune and with more contemporary themes. Modern wars, destruction and fighting for freedom. I don't know why people complain about the absence of folky tunes. A band can't stay the same the whole time without sounding boring at some point. Equilibrium will eventually make different albums so fret not.

Enjoyed this one a lot! Very good melodies, and that section about 4 minutes in got my head banging like the Sagas days!

I'm sorry, I know I'm the 1000th person who says that, but I just wanted to say that it's really sad for me that they left their totally awsome and epic viking/folk style! I really loved their older songs like Blut im Auge and Waldschrein. I don't say that the new sons aren't good, but that folky epicness is missing. I really really hope their future work will be more folky and more like the older stuff - I'm not telling you to stop playing in your new style, but I'll be really happy to hear some more songs like the older ones! No matter what these other guys in this comment section say, keep doing you! Artists change their style from time to time, they explore new sounds, they grow, that's what progress is all about. If they wouldn't change, they wouldn't make progress, they wouldn't be happy making music that sounds "similar to their popular/old songs" for eternity.
I certainly like the new album very much and still listen to it on a weekly basis all the way through.

Agreed! I like all of their stuff, but this album is awesome. I prefer the darker, more serious sound. They definitely still have a lot of that folk melody stuff going on too, so I don't see why people are complaining.

None of the new songs has made the same kind of impact as Sagas or Rekreatur made. They are good songs, but I'm missing the melodies like in "Blut im Auge", "Unbesiegt" and "Kurzes Epos". Maybe these songs will open up by listening them a few more times, though.

Fully agree. Prey was weird, Born To Be Epic was weird, Eternal Destination is weird. Not bad, just really not even remotely giving me the same shivers that half of Erdentempel gave me two years ago, and even on there was I starting to go become wary.
cause those songs belong to a completely other genre which was the reason most people were listening to this band.
Blut Im Auge is so good that I don't listen to it anymore. I feel like no day is epic enough for that song lol.
this band is officially dead for me, I can't believe this is the same band that made Turis Fratyr and Sagas

Very mixed reviews on this song. Maybe they should of released one of the folk songs instead to qwell the haters. I loved the song despite it being darker. The part around 3:30 is my favorite. Everyone will have their own view of course.

Having discovered this band with Wirsthaus Gaudi, I just cannot take them seriously in the beginning of the clip when they're just standing around brooding, all serious like. But once the music kicks in, it immediately gets much better.
Guys, it's a song about war. It's ok if it's not folk metal. Kinda hard to perform a song about such a somber topic with fucking ocarinas squealing out happy ass chords.

I dig this. A heavier epic tune and with more contemporary themes. Modern wars, destruction and fighting for freedom. I don't know why people complain about the absence of folky tunes. A band can't stay the same the whole time without sounding boring at some point. Equilibrium will eventually make different albums so fret not.
