    Thanks for this...I was contemplating doing this switch on my 99 Chevy for the exact same reason. Much cleaner and simpler look, and is a throwback to the classic Chevy trucks from 67 to 72. Thanks to you, I now know that it's a fairly simple transition.

      It is in fact a holdover model...it 's titled as a 99 but actually has the grille and light setup from the previous year. Luckily, here in Los Angeles there are a half dozen salvage yards with the 90-98 base trucks just gathering dust.

    i have a k2500 with the w/t front end and agree that i personally like it more. in this case though i think the original front end of the dually suited it better. to each their own though.
    also i recommend upgrading the lights on the dually if you use it at night. I converted my sealed beams to projector lenses capable of changing the bulbs and had silverstar ultras in them. worked great.
    recently swapped those out for 5x7 cree LEDs and the difference is crazy. they look cooler and are bright as hell.

    My dream truck is a black extended cab short bed 88-98 chevy 1500, sometimes I see some cheap W/T models being sold around here, it's tempting to nab one cheap then try and convert it to the silverado lights and grille. To each their own, I personally like the silverado lights better. I'm just unsure how I'd even do the wiring. My dad swears by how reliable these trucks are...I currently have a 95 dodge ram 5.2 v8 and it gets me from point A to B but it needs a loose steering wheel fixed and possibly waterpump, it leaks a little coolant, and we all know how infamously bad the 2nd gen dodge ram transmissions are known for being....at 224k miles and no prior maintenance history known, it could be a ticking time bomb, but hey, it was only 800 bucks a couple months ago lol

  • @dyer2cycle
    @dyer2cycle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amen, brother! I actually prefer a chrome grille, BUT- Anything to get rid of damned plastic headlights and use clear, inexpensive glass ones! I just hit a deer with my Suburban, busted the grille and driver's side(plastic) headlight. Since I have to replace the grille, and at least 1 headlight, I want to just switch it over to base sealed beam glass headlights. I have loathed plastic headlights since they were introduced, especially on trucks. I think the plastic cloud-and-yellow lights debuted on the 1987 Ford full size trucks, as far as trucks go.

    • @HemiChrysler
      @HemiChrysler  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am reasonably confident that I simply demoted those lights to be reflectors. The smaller truck was traded, the following day, for a tri-axle trailer (see my winch on trailer video), and the new owner, _Grandpa Al_ simply didn't care about those side lights. Sadly, _Grandpa Al_ died soon afterward, but I think the truck was transferred to his son's ownership.

    The Sealed beams have better light output after a few years than the plastic. Even if you clean up the oxidation on the outside of the plastic bulbs the vacuum plated reflector is not renewed so the light output suffers.
    The Black painted WT grille looks better IMHO. I have one on my 2000 GMC C2500. I did keep the Red GMC emblem.
    If you want the upmarket look with sealed beams get the 88 & 89 quad sealed beam setup. It'll bolt up just like the plastic lamps.

    Not to hate but I feel everyone prefers the the higher trim front end but I do agree with you I prefer glass headlight but I like the higher trim front so luckily the the 1988 has the dual split headlights like the 91 blazer / suburban

      Rewatch the video, one 1 set he said you have to branch the 2 grounds together, on the other you have 1 ground that goes to nothing.

      Do you think converting from the base trim single headlight to the 88 quad sealed beam headlight would be the same thing like I wouldn’t need to. Change the core support I have 98 gmc regular cab with the single headlight

      @@Grabthembypussycat Yes, with the advantage that you don't need to change the grille. I have a 1995 Chevrolet wrecker, and have purchased 1988-89 double lights, from a salvage yard, for this truck.

    What's the difference between c/k and a silverado?

    • @HemiChrysler
      @HemiChrysler  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      _C/K_ is the model, examples : K2500 (3/4 ton, 4x4), C3500 (1 ton, RWD). The trucks in the video are C1500 and C3500. _Silverado_ was the top of the range trim/equipment option for the C/K series. On the successor trucks, beginning 1999, Silverado is the model name.
