Cool vid bro! Lots of info! If I had to choose id prolly choose your top choice! I make a fire disk starter with a cotton disk, wax and lighter fluid.. when it's torn in half, it more times than not starts with one strike and burns 3-5 min however, I've never intentionally tested it for wind but one time when showing them I lit one and when I was ready to end it I was able to blow it out so it's probably not as wind resistant as yours.

@@OzarkGuy I appreciate that! I'll tell you what though, that sterno can gel is definitely worth looking into! It performed exceptionally well, and I may start carrying it out and using it just to further test it. The amount you get for less than 5 bucks is pretty awesome

Your fire starter with the coin paper and the Gofire.. those are the two I’d use.

I'll tell you I've used all them as well camping and hiking for 30 years and I got to tell you the white cubes can be cut into small pieces they light all the time they actually float in water and burn at the same time. They clearly outperform all them take it out in the snow or in the water and you'll see wind rain whatever they work. Duraflame all the way!!

How about trying to draw the Rod back and not the knife forward, that way you have better control at youre kindling. Thx for the vid though. :)

Use the back of your knife to scrape a fero rod never the edge

@@jamesniv8436 It's an old knife that I use and abuse. Normally would never do it like this normally

It's not my imagination right, you really are striking the fero rod with the blade edge of your knife?
Have you never used Duraflame products before? You light the paper wrapper, and that starts the block inside.
That Sterno is for use as a chafing dish heater.

@@tahoemike5828 You can say I did things in this video to specifically "strike" a reaction out of my audience. To be clear, though, that is a cheap old knife that I use specifically for things like this. I beat it up all the time. I would not use my normal bushcrafting knife in this way. The whole purpose of the video is to explore different things that can be thrown in a bag and used as a Firestarter, reliably in the bush. That includes the sterno can, and it's contents. Just experimenting is all.
