2010 world championship Japan obtained the bronze medal and ranked 4th in 2011 World Cup. This Nippon team should easily get top 3 in this tournament but things didn’t go the way as expected. The most controversial match in women volleyball history happened in this tournament (Japan and Serbia stated as a 'match fixing’ game)
Post-Match Commentary :
Russia with 90s superstar #4 Artamonova (37yo, 1.90m) return made the team uplift one level and Japan didn’t have any advantages. Nippon players were so tired physically and mentally after fight against Cubans in 5 sets day before.
It was the Day 6 and key player in Japan - #12 Kimuar Saori (26yo, 1.85m) didn't rest for even a minute. Japanese squad with huge pressure but tiredness made the game became overwhelming. #11 Gamova (32yo, 2.02m) and all the 1.9x players in Russia played an easy volleyball and won the match without too much effort. Japanese were exhausted and defense had been dropped one level.
