We dry out pretty good during August and September. We don't water the grass much during the summer. Costs too much to try and keep it green. It comes back to green when the Fall rains return.

Honey bees aren't attracted. They go after pollen and flower nectar. This attracts meat eaters like yellow jackets. you can also use little pieces of meat like bacon instead of the commercial attractant. Just tie a piece to the string instead of a cotton ball.

    • @rosemariebuchanan5504

Do not kill bees. Do your research. Bees are passive little critters who only want to gather nectar and pollinate the plants that produce the food that you eat. If you have a problem with bees, call a local honey producer and figure out a way to safely remove the bees without killing them.

bluesky98382 I heard they only go for meat during certain periods of the year, and sweet things on other periods. D you happen to know what times these might be?

Years ago my dad bought a wasp trap from the store. A common transparent yellow one. It came with an attractant but it wasn't effective. I tried again a year later with orange flavored tang. Hundreds of dead wasps and yellow jackets over the summer. There were a couple bees but their numbers were so low that it cannot be compared. I didn't notice any mud daubers. Not sure what they like but sweet drinks must not be it. Or they just weren't around at the time. Not sure which. Hope this helps.

On a 2am TH-cam suggestion some dude poured molten aluminum down a fire ant hole, let it cool and then dug it up. It’s now on display as ‘art’ and people are buying it. Go figure!

maybe set up your trap outside of the house so it don't wreak inside .

I have used this type of trap for years both at home and in the vineyards. The only differences were that I stuffed the cotton ball in the top of the handle and used a 3/4” hole saw to make the entrance holes, which is probably being anal. I’ll have to try his method with a knife to make the holes next time I make a trap. I even used the same attractant. So, yes above all else wear gloves and get up early before the yellow jackets do or you will be mobbed.

If you have pets then do not use any type of meat as an attractant for obvious reasons.
