  • How To Make The Perfect Yellowjacket Trap
    How To Make The Perfect Yellowjacket Trap is a TH-cam beekeeping video that shows step by step instructions on how I build my Yellowjacket Trap. This is a whole season trap. Set it, a forgot it. You don't have to get the Yellowjacket out till the end of the Yellowjacket season, and that's when you get a good frost, or freeze. Then simply empty it, and put it up till next year.

    Just made and set out. Only mod I did was cut above the “fat” ring on the coke bottle and made the hole slightly smaller. It created a nice, natural stopping point. I also hot glued the seam. I hope this all works out for me. Thanks for the idea.

    AWESOME! I am not a beekeeper but I hate these yellow jackets like the plague they are in my yard. I was going to go with a 5 gallon bucket and a funnel but this would be even cheaper and better. Very good. I know the small bottle trick works via same cut top placed on the bottom of same soda container but you can’t trap too many hornets in there. This is my solution so thank you very much.

    Wasp queens hibernate over winter. They start to fly at 50 degrees. Get your trap out as soon as your temperature starts to hit 50. The goal is to trap queens and early workers to eliminate the number of potential wasp nests in your area and those that do get established will be weakened as the worker population for the nest is kept low.

    Easiest trap:
    One, 2 Liter soda bottle of your choice. Cut top part of bottle off where side curves in towards top. Flip cut top upside-down, place inside bottom part of 2 liter. Glue or tape to hold both pieces in place. Pour a little bit of high sugar soda in bottle.

    Great trap! I would suspend pieces of hot dog using a fish hook on a leader... just poke a hole through the lid and pull the leader through. The water will mask the smell if you just toss it in the water.

      Good idea, 👍, but leaving 4" of the flanges and gluing those will provide a lot of strength.

    Just a quick question and, excuse my ignorance but, won’t I still have a nest to worry about? Wouldn’t it be worthwhile to actually kill the nest (wasp killer or soap sprayed into the crack or hole they come in and out of while also trapping the yellow jackets that fly out)? I have wasps under the landing of my front and back door and would like them gone for good. I’m thinking of spraying their entranceway and exit while also putting this trap next to the landing.

Because this nest is in my carport and my ducks congregate about 20 feet away, I’m wondering how far away from the carport I should put this great yellow jacket trap and leave it? The ducks are curious and I’m afraid they may go over and start nibbling on the box like they nibble on anything they are curious about. But maybe they are smarter than I give them credit for and they realize the bees should not be bothered, I just don’t know..

    9: 39. That's my view on it too; if they want to serve a purpose, they will be wise to set up camp outside of my yard and hunting areas.
    Also, 1/12 that much tape would hold the funnel securely by placing a 4" length across each flange, close to the lid hole. Then trim the extra flange length.
    Or plastic weld them for almost free.
    ThanX for showing,
    it looks effective; I'm going to make one.
    Please tell those yellow jacket, coyote, and wolf lovers, if they'll leave their address, I'll mail the carcases to them.

    I have leftover 3M aluminum foil tape I used to secure heat tape to the bottom of my snakes' enclosures. This kind of tape withstands heat, so it should do the trick, yes? I suppose I could cut the hole with a soldering pen, but mistakes would be more likely. I could use the pen at a lower temp so it wouldn't get out of control easily. Perhaps we should look for a thin lid so we can use a utility knife, instead.

    I saw one where you use the same kind of tote, but instead of using the lid, you just lay a 2x4 length across it with some meat attached to the underside of it. The tote is filled with water and soap about a 1/2 inch from the meat. The yellowjackets land on the meat, take a piece, then try to fly away, they are too heavy, and fall into the soapy water, and drown. wish we had thought of something like that where I used to live as a 2nd grader in Oregon for a year or so.....the place had a BAD yellowjacket problem. I got stung several times and so did my dad.

I decided to pound the tent peg into a fallen log. Little did I know that I was pounding the peg right into a wasp nest. Suddenly they were all around my feet. That tape gets stickier with heat/pressure. Swipe it with a credit card or a drivers license. It will stick better and completely seal.

      Larry Carbaugh I am in Kitsap too. I’ve made no special traps. Just a two liter bottle with the top inverted like a minnow trap baited with sugar water and meat. I’d have to dig for the article where they said use rice wine for AGH, but it is out there.

    Instead of using that expensive tape
    You can use a hot glue gun to glue down the tabs or use Gorilla glue or contact cement , They have Gorilla glue that's waterproof and contact cement is waterproof as well and I'll bet it costs less than that metallic duct tape

    Why not just cut the bottle like you said then the like you said an just cut the hole a little smaller then the bottle stick your bottle in the hole an put silicone rubber around the bottle after it sticks you can’t pull it out an save a roll of tape wouldn’t take much silicone

      @@taral6813 Yellow jackets are known as European wasps or paper wasps. They're not native to the Americas, and probably came here on a ship hundreds of years ago. Niether are honeybees, though. We brought them here on purpose. Meat bees is also a common nickname for them.
      The red wasps are highly aggressive. They don't even need a reason to attack.

    • @gazinta
      @gazinta 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @WaKing Pleb Bruh.
      Eastern Yellowjackets came from Europe. They weren't here. Lots of bees and wasps were here. HONEY bees are from Africa and Eurasia.
      Youre watching the history channel. I watch the same TV shows. You prrsonally have never seen those structures you speak of.
      Archeological evidence would discover ancient beeswax in caves if they were already here. Paper wasps are a little more elusive because theu live underground, and a year after the colony moves on, rainwater destroys the nest.
