There are at least still 80k weekly active players, people who actually play, and daily peaks are about 10k concurrent, so sure, not even close to the 120k peak concurrent player count in 2014, but not quite fully dead yet, it's still hanging on to a couple people that never left, or came back I only play railgun master because it's the only non pay to win part left in the game, it's quite fun, but only hardcore people play there so it's not easy
Yeah, remember the game from times where isida had true vampirism. Back in old days it was much slower paced game, where supplies from skies where the ones to turn the tides of the game. Now it's hoppers flying on ctf maps with helios ricochet, huge salvo strikers on juggernauts, perfectly balanced turrets in every gamemode(hammer, magnum, scorpion) and lots, lots of supplies on board.
I'm still mad about isida, it was short range so it just wasn't op, it took way longer than fire or ice to kill, you could just walk away and if the tank was fast enough to follow you it was squishy enough to be killed before it could kill you, isida was just plain fun to contest territories as a mega tanky medium tank and keep your allies topped off before the nerf, wasn't broken, just shoot from 10 meters away

Actually though, in GTA 5 some cheater made me explode every car in a lobby at once, that got me send to the bad sport lobby for 2 weeks, 2 weeks that i couldn't play with friends, i contacted support and all they said was basically f*ck you, shut the f*ck up unless you have questions about shark cards

It wasnt that long of a comment. I like long comments though, they are way more informative than a random comment like "this video was good!!". The fact that people put stuff like "wow you actually read this far" on a comment which took me half a minute to read at most, is sad. Garbage apps like tiktok are ruining people's attention span so hard. Sad.
The latest thing that got me back into this game was a huge outage where the game servers ate shit for a week and you couldn't log in, so when everything was finally fixed, you could log in and claim a Token of Apology. It contained tankoins, containers, premium etc. Basically a whole lot of stuff that probably would have cost a hundo when bought normally but it was given away for free to make it up for the outage.
the excuse was sad. I was happy to hear that the devs finally got a taste of what happens when you decide to become greedy and people are fed up with it. They wont admit it but im 99% sure they got dos'ed/ddos'ed. They killed this game.

One of the things that really bothers me is that in like 2014, not everyone used supplies, it was pretty rare from what I remember. You know, the « druggers ». But now supplies are such an important thing in Tanki, everything is affiliated to them now.
I remember something simmilar. The only time I saw large numbers of druggers was when a gold box dropped. Speaking of gold boxes, they were a *lot* rarer. I only saw a few during my entire playtime. I don’t know when this was exactly but I remember the shaft being introduced (and not liking it lol), which was the 9th turret added to the game back in 2011 Then I quit the game around the time they introduced the micro-upgrades (which is where the game started to really go to shit from my memory). When I came back it only took a few sessions to have the same number of the gold boxes drop as my years long playtime before micro-upgrades.
what i hate the most is the fact that the appearance of the turrets and hulls at m0 already resemble m3. That was always what you did the upgrades for; not because they got better but because they started looking better.
I dont even remember what the map was called, but it was a floating 3 level squere road that had gaps between the teams so you had to jump over with a ramp. Playing that map in middleschool at the library with my friends, all sniping enemies with shaft, railgun and thunder, was really fun. Miss those days man.
Today the Shaft removed the Laser beam and you not see if one snipes as you. Back than it was fun to hide the Laser Beam behind an wall the enemy not can see it to shot them

Almost all the things in the video is one hundred percent right. I have been playing tanki for years now, and I hate it to hell, but at the same time love it to heaven. And I do somewhat agree with your final ratings (Fun: 2/10, tee hee, I truly do think so). But in addition to what killed tanki online (... money, obviously...) people seem to always miss three more points. By the way, really nice videos, man, and fun editing style. Your last one about tanki had 1.2M views, and just... wow! congratulations~~. I'll be keeping tabs on this channel. I'll just summarize them here if you don't wanna read through all. 1. Tanki has a massive problem with 'smurfing' --- Road To Legend players, I'm looking at you. 2. Bots. I may be in the wrong here, and if I am, I do apologize, but tanki has bots. 3. Player-base. Tanki just is not new player friendly anymore... First of all, tanki is one of the games where "smurfing" --- the act of an old player starting a new account in order to en masse commit various war crimes against relatively new players --- is actually encouraged. Road to Legend, meh, such a concept is really, really evil. Seriously, if anybody tried that in most other popular games (like League of Legends **comparing tanki to LOL here cause both give their players a love-hate relationship**), they'd get banned and then damned to the netherworld. Yes, I know that there is no fun endgame stuff in tanki and it makes you want to create a new account, but it is not a good system. And, with the predatory monetization that TO has been going with, most RTL players do end up buying a lot... This makes it so that new players do not really have an incentive to continue playing this obviously P2W game that lets you get stuff easily with money for which you'd normally have to grind for hours. So. No new players. Old players keep buying stuff by creating new account. Tanki makes money. The devs are happy while tanki dies a "stagnant water" death. (DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT OFFICIALLY PROVED) Secondly, bots... Really, if one observes so much tanki games like I do, they could surely point out that sometimes the teammates just move... predictably, lets say. They move in perfect lines... dont turn turrets... dont make intelligent plays for the flag or point... and if you get infront of them, just ram directly into you and move on without even turning their turrets... and so on. While, the real players do turn turrets to get better grasp of the battlefield, use insane tactics to get the objectives, and actually react if you stand in their path. I know, I may be just being a dum-dum by looking deep into this and creating a whole freaking conspiracy, and I'd feel really stupid if the tanki devs had made an official statement that there are bots in the game, but this is what I feel. "Tanki has bots, and you win against bots while lose against P2P players, which wants you to be P2P yourself,. So, you buy crap, which allows you to win against bots again, while making you lose against P2P's who had spent more than you. So, you buy JUST one LAST time. But, the cycle starts over again by pitting you against a Crisis (a powerful drone) user who kill you with an insane argument, which then wants you to buy more to get to their level, just to feel good by killing bots again while regretting going against higher P2P's. So, in the end, you buy stuff to kill bots and be cannon fodder for people who buy more than you. If you buy once, NOTHING will stop you from buying more. Trust me. I know how it feels." Thirdly, tanki just isn't new-player friendly. Like I said, the devs did make it accessible on mobile, but it still suffers a lot when it comes to getting a bigger player-base. Everything can be fixed if it had a bigger player-base. Look at Raid: Shadow legends. You'd be a zombie if you said it doesn't have a p2p system like tanki, maybe even worse than tanki. But it still has a massive playerbase and some people do enjoy it (... by being addicted to the gacha game... ). By having a playerbase, most people would whine about the predatory monetization of tanki, yes, but with a big enough player-base, you'll have a more fair matchmaking (... but with bots in play, I don't know if any kind of MM can be fair in this game). You'll still go against people of your level since there is a large player group, and P2P's will go against people of THEIR level. The problem of smurfing DOES NOT help this case at all, and spending money when you are smurfing is even worse and will scare off any new player that steps in, if they have a brain at all. Some will get through and become the cannon fodder at higher levels, and some may have fun and enjoy the game truly, but most will throw this into the recycle bin after a week of playing. So... my final verdict... tanki will never attain its peak again. It is now stuck in a loop where it needs a big playerbase for it to continue, but its whole system prevents it from getting new players. The only way out of this loop is if the predatory monetization gets loosened up... but lets face it. It will never be about players. As long as the devs can milk more money, tanki will stay this insignificant blimp in the huge market.
This, just this. Checked out their forums to see if it was worth coming back, after all the new crazy guns, HOVER tanks, drones, overdrives and yadda yadda I just went nah, not worth it. The game used to be so simple, but they made up a bunch of stuff just to buy/grind and that muddied the waters for real, if I got overwhelmed, imagine a new-comer!
Yeah man I stopped playing Tanki on the same rank as you did. The game then was amazingly simple, the textures of tanks were fine and not 3D overhyped as they are today. And I don't even know how they made it happen but when I tried to play it today, I was so nerve and angry all the time because I couldn't compete with my tank at all. The game back then was just chill and easy and unable to be angry at. It was a game of my childhood, aspecially during the summer time school holidays. Well... We can't do nothing but else than just be happy that this game was just made someday and we had a good time in it for a few years.
For anyone wondering a group of the community has remade the good old tanki, search for Protanki. I've been playing that non-stop, it's nice to play the game we loved
Hey you should totally try out ProTanki. It is a clone of tanki that is being kept in the 2015ish state. It only has about 10k players and the servers are only in europe but the nostalgia will certainly be strong. I good hooked by it after not playing for like 8 years. Its literally exactly like the old times.
@@hagmax1531 not AS pay to win but it’s not perfect. Most people have some sort of kit and every now and then there are hardcore druggers. It’s totally possible to save up for stuff without paying though.

Yeah, this is about right for the opinion I'd expect of a new player getting into the game. I quit about a year ago, but when I started picking the game back up again 3 years ago...yeah that was about right. You haven't seen the worst of the warcrimes yet - you can stun people, take away their supplies, and cut their damage in half now with status effects, locked behind loot boxes. It's lots of fun.

I remember I discovered Tanki Online in middle school. Showed it to my friends, they showed it to their friends, etc.. and in the end, sharing my discovery of the game ended with the entire school playing Tanki. It became such a problem that the school blocked the website. And us kids just developed work-arounds and kept playing. Good times.
I played like yesterday for the first time in 5 years 😅 I'm one rank below you at major but I'm so close to ranking up to lieutenant colonel, yet it's so hard because everyone is so overpowered now 😭 can't even get a solid 5 kills. If this was 5-10 years ago I would rank up in no problem.

I first started playing tanki and then world of tanks and then war thunder. I would like to thank tanki for sending me on this journey. Most of it was pain and suffering but all the tanks I got in the end was worth it.
used to play this 24/7 back in 2016 and it was the best game ive ever played. that said i remember what made me stop playing was the constant updates making the game more and more p2w starting with the premium accounts update that would give double rewards for whoever was willing to pay, ppl was "drugging" more and more until i just gave up and dropped the game for real
I remember this game in ~2009 when I played it being a Russian... It was just a browser game without any physics, with 3-4 weapon types and graphics like Doom. I kinda surprised that it's known by people outside of CIS. And I find it ridiculous that the name of the game was just transliterated :D "Tanki" literally means "Tanks" in Russian
I remember playing this game as a child, im not shure if i 100% remember when i first started playing the game but i think i first played it in 2013 - 2014. However, i sadly lost all of my accounts. And my highest rank was Warrant Officer 4. Man good old times. Also yes, i came back to playing Tanki online, well, sometimes, i mostly play roblox lol.
There is news in the Russian community that the developers are making TankiClassic. It's supposed to be an old game. Our youtubers are already covering this. They even contacted the former TankiOnline news anchor for comment. It looks like this is all an official project to restart the old TankiOnline.
Fed up of people crying about coming back after however long and expecting it to be the same. If you do not keep playing and keeping up with the times, it will inevitably be different. I've played it since late 2009, left 2012 and returned in 2013. Haven't left since and it's still amazing to me. If you do your missions consistently enough, you get a _lot_ of crystals and supplies. Open containers you also get from missions to obtain new augments and stuff. It's never going to be the same, and it will probably, _probably_ never die. If you don't use drugs, or more importantly a drone, (Brutus, is cheap and doesn't use batteries) then you will not survive, I don't care how good you think you are. It will never 'feel like the old days again'. Give it a chance, do your missions, watch TH-camrs who give tips on how to get better in Tanki, I'd recommend Taspens, who does the best job in my opinion. A real gem in the EN TO TH-cam community. I'm just frankly fed up the stereotypical cry of the old tankers that 'tanki has changed and I'm so not used to it, woe is me etc etc etc '. Go watch some videos on tips and tricks from Taspens and others who have uploaded similar videos and you'll see it's really not that bad. Or don't, either way it makes no difference to me. I'll just keep playing and enjoying Tanki like I have done for the past 13 years. I hope you can see my perspective on this. In no way intending to have a go at anybody. Just fed up of people claiming the game is 'unbalanced' etc because they don't upgrade their equipment and expect it to be the same gameplay experience from 10 years ago. Ffs man. Keep up with the times or become Railgun fodder for me. It's your choice. On a completely different note, ian's videos are superbly edited and I really enjoy them. Keep going man. Maybe you won't ever enjoy the game again, and maybe that's okay. There are other games out there.

remove suplies and powers. bring back old bold box time, old graphics .and more also its more complicated because of more options(p2w) simple = better. dont need to change what works

The granade that killed you from far is from the turret called magnum. And that's not all, but the best is when you dont even get touches by it, because it flies above you, no explosion, no hit, but kills you...
If you ever played Tanki X, I believe you should try Revive TX. What I personally LOVE about Revive TX: You could use modules (which have same effect as supplies and much more at NO COST). The only downside is the cooldown time (which balances things) There are only 3 levels for hulls and turrets. M0, M1, M2. What IS PHENOMENAL: you do not need crystals to upgrade them. You do not need to grind the **** Out of the game to get Good combos. I played just a bit to get M1 on Wasp and Isida compared to the grind nightmare of TO There are only the classic hulls and guns in there (hammer and vulcan added). Downsides: Matchmaking system we All hate No Control Points game mode(from what I have seen) Modules need containers which are being bought with… Premium currency (damn) A lot of cosmetics can be upgraded only by containers You can Meet High level players despite being Low level player. Can’t wait to see your nicely editez video about it. Cheers!
It is not only about skill, but the overall experience. Yes, I died many times… when I played more, and I do die often, but with Isida I can really annoy my enemies in two ways 😂

I feel one of the thing is that tanki has become more complex at higher ranks 😅 Before: Hull + Turret Now: Hull + Hull Augments + Turret + Turret Augments + Drones + Overdrive There are tons of augments that totally changes how a turret works. For example one of the augment of Shaft let's you heal your teammates. One augment of Railgun gives instant reload on every kill. There are really great F2P combos available but only people who understand all the mechanisms well, knows about them. List of few: Hornet + Freeze (Adrenaline Augment) + Any Drone (works best with Blaster drone in my opinion) Dictator + Vulcan (Adrenaline Augment) + Any Drone Viking + Hammer (High Capacity Ammo) + Any Drone In any case at the lower rank, it is still only Hull + Turret, so it's much simpler. That's why if one is an old player, it's much better to start a new account and play on that. You will eventually learn all about augments and drones, since they will be introduced slowly as you rank up.

You know, I really miss the old lobby times, the gravity thing, everyone was so hyped for that update, i literally played that game for so long that I even remember all the old stuff, some of my friends and many other maps. Sad to see the downfall of that game.

i remember playing this game a lot. although somewhere in 2015-2017 i completely left the game and i haven’t played it in a long time. and i don’t really think i want to come back to it, the nostalgia factor was kind of ruined with the updates.

Точно не помню. Были в промежутке этого времени обновления, от которых игроков горело и бугуртило. Однако это рядом не стояло с тем, в какой ужас игру превратили сейчас...
The only good thing about Tanki Online today was the fact the support team helped me recover my old account to which I lost the password for, and had no evidence to prove I owned it. They confirmed it was mine by comparing my IP address with that of the account it was logged in from last.

the amount of nostalgia i had with it 🥲 back then i was mezmerized by the dual cannon turret (forgot its name), so i played quite some time to get it. but then after getting killed so many times by players using railguns turret, i start to grind it. damn that was fun, the ricochet was also a very nice turret. the 2010s-2015s era are unforgettable years of my life

Moon Silence! If you had wasp + ricochet, you could get on the top of the highest wall, then do nice flips and stunts! I remember playing this on my friends PC with like 10-15 fps, those unforgetable days
Probably second of the games I played for over 5 years. I loved it when there was Semyon Kirov in the vlogs and the weekly updates had me so excited. I did commit some childish mistakes and got banned MANY MANY times, I remember crying so hard that my father used to get my account back for me. The game was all about skill but look at the state of it now; supplies abuse, overdrive to worsen stuff, pay to win content, etc that ruined the game fully. Lastly, the augments of all; LIKE IMAGINE A MAGNUM USER RETURNING TO THE GAME JUST TO SEE THE ARTILLERY DOESN'T WORK AS AN ARTILLERY. It burned me; especially the cost to unlock that augment for the magnum. I was still good with the railgun but projectiles were my thing. The amount of memories I made even with friends that I have never met IRL but in this game are innumerable; and I somehow have crystal clear memory of what happened on certain days. I remember crying about not wanting to go to school and at home, I would be playing a certain map; I remember it till date. What's left of this game now is just something that I can't bear to watch anymore; it already started paving its path to its downfall around 2017-2018 (I suppose).
I played the game so far that the og adds seen in this video was what I dealt with, where crystals were sparce and the supplies were more like what we actually call them ("drugs"). Where railgun was just a line and isida was the "electric" gun. When the shots changed color based on upgrade level (by that I mean all the guns, even thunder and smokey had a shot color change), where firebird breathed both blue and purple flame. Where legacy skins were not the legacy...they were the game. I now play it and am the highest I've ever been (captain, two ranks under your own my friend) and I enjoy the game as much as I did in the past, and I do have fun, but I have fun because it's always funny to be half way across the map with something that isn't a long range turret like railgun shaft magnum or scorpion...and still 1 shoting a innocent wasp as it tries to cross a bridge.

Haven't played this game anymore since late 2017, because the amount of p2w became so rampant that you were constantly fighting guys who spammed boosts and had very highly upgraded turrets and hulls and grinding for crystals wasn't worth it and so I decided to quit rather than to join the p2w just to be able to compete ( never spent a dime on this game and after 2014 I became more of a on and off player ) Although I must say that I was kinda cracking with the magnum turret when it released since not many people knew how to properly use it and found it pretty fun to play with even though I wasn't winning or having a decent kda.

What's funny is that I played this game back about 6-7 years ago back on the old school apple laptops they'd give out(no chromebooks in sight) during the day, and recently(as of 2021-2022, I relived that old time feeling, now with my own computer. Although yes, I do not like the way they went, but at the end of the day... Tanki is still the old Tanki, and I still find the joy of playing a few rounds now and then, feeling like it was the end of the school day in 2015-2016. Do wish I could find my old account again, but eh, thanks to Steam having a port of Tanki, I'm able to have the engine be reliable, and a reliable method for accounts.
The game has changed massively over the past couple years. Thing is, you can still get to having a great tank, and kick major ass, without needing to spend any money at all. You just need to keep playing, upgrading, buying a good drone and protection modules and so on. The game now has been made a lot sleeker, but also more complicated in the actual gameplay because you need protection modules, combined with augments on both turrets and hulls, then there's the drones as well that do other things. YesterTanki the paints had effects, but not any more, it's all in augs, drones and modules. I haven't spent a single penny on Tanki in the 10 years or so I've been playing. It's simply about playing A LOT to get to where you want to be. The major problem with the game, is the players who ignore battle modes, and drive around randomly playing deathmatch, regardless of the actual battle mode. It's tough to get diamonds together when your team just won't actually play the mode and you lose 10-0 and only get 200 diamonds, every single fucking battle.
@@CyberVonCyberus ??? when you reach legend rank, the only reason to play tanki is on weekends where they ALWAYS give double exp and crystals and ultra containers. All most ppl do is complete special missions on weekends. Supplies aren't a hassle, crystals aren't a hassle, tank coins aren't a hassle so besides the trash bots u get in matches, there isn't any major problem with the game
Just tried the game again now in late 2024 and as shocked as i am to say it, it seems the game has improved alot in the past year compared to when u played it, still nothing close to our beloved og tanki tho
I played it back in 2012 aswell, but it just got worse. Its unrecognizable. Back then it was deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and controlpoints. You had like 8 hulls, 8 turrets, no drones and mo chips. It was nice. Now its just pay to win.
From someone that still plays this game, scorpion, gauss, magnum, railgun and shaft are very deadly at long range. Especially scorpion, that turret locks onto the enemy, and you can track him through walls, and pummel them with rockets!
I did the same and rejoined to new Tanki Online. I missed for the old upgrade system like M0, M1, M2... That was so much pleasure to get your weapon or hull a new view. Lobbies are another one thing I missed for - random matches are quite boring to me. Maybe someone will bring up an old Open Source version of Tanki Online? That's gonna be an event I'm waiting more than my birthday.

There are at least still 80k weekly active players, people who actually play, and daily peaks are about 10k concurrent, so sure, not even close to the 120k peak concurrent player count in 2014, but not quite fully dead yet, it's still hanging on to a couple people that never left, or came back

Yeah, remember the game from times where isida had true vampirism. Back in old days it was much slower paced game, where supplies from skies where the ones to turn the tides of the game. Now it's hoppers flying on ctf maps with helios ricochet, huge salvo strikers on juggernauts, perfectly balanced turrets in every gamemode(hammer, magnum, scorpion) and lots, lots of supplies on board.
they added a vampire nanobot alteration for isida turret. It is op as hell and it is not free to get.

I'm still mad about isida, it was short range so it just wasn't op, it took way longer than fire or ice to kill, you could just walk away and if the tank was fast enough to follow you it was squishy enough to be killed before it could kill you, isida was just plain fun to contest territories as a mega tanky medium tank and keep your allies topped off before the nerf, wasn't broken, just shoot from 10 meters away

1-UPGRADE BRUTUS!!!!! (very important as max drones give a buff to damage and armour supplies effectiveness)
it only costs 100k to max if you do not speed up the upgrades ( 300k with speedups no sale)
2-play on weekends (friday counts too)
weekends = stonks for tonks x2 crystals and xp + juicy missions with great rewards ( ez way to catch up to buff tonks f2p)
3-if you have more time do daily/weekly missions as they give nice rewards ( weekly containers give 100 each supply + 10k crystals & you get 3 each week)

The latest thing that got me back into this game was a huge outage where the game servers ate shit for a week and you couldn't log in, so when everything was finally fixed, you could log in and claim a Token of Apology. It contained tankoins, containers, premium etc. Basically a whole lot of stuff that probably would have cost a hundo when bought normally but it was given away for free to make it up for the outage.

the excuse was sad. I was happy to hear that the devs finally got a taste of what happens when you decide to become greedy and people are fed up with it. They wont admit it but im 99% sure they got dos'ed/ddos'ed. They killed this game.
One of the things that really bothers me is that in like 2014, not everyone used supplies, it was pretty rare from what I remember. You know, the « druggers ».
But now supplies are such an important thing in Tanki, everything is affiliated to them now.

I don’t know when this was exactly but I remember the shaft being introduced (and not liking it lol), which was the 9th turret added to the game back in 2011
Then I quit the game around the time they introduced the micro-upgrades (which is where the game started to really go to shit from my memory).
When I came back it only took a few sessions to have the same number of the gold boxes drop as my years long playtime before micro-upgrades.
2014 druggers made life a livibg hell of normal players lol, thats why supplies were mostly disabled in servers
what i hate the most is the fact that the appearance of the turrets and hulls at m0 already resemble m3. That was always what you did the upgrades for; not because they got better but because they started looking better.
Difference in the look gave you idea how strong is enemy! So dumb that you cannot see how dangerous are the enemies
I dont even remember what the map was called, but it was a floating 3 level squere road that had gaps between the teams so you had to jump over with a ramp. Playing that map in middleschool at the library with my friends, all sniping enemies with shaft, railgun and thunder, was really fun. Miss those days man.

this is like a good chunk of my childhood and i don't even want to think what it has become yet, so I think leaving it alone is the best option to keep my good memories and just move on.
Almost all the things in the video is one hundred percent right. I have been playing tanki for years now, and I hate it to hell, but at the same time love it to heaven. And I do somewhat agree with your final ratings (Fun: 2/10, tee hee, I truly do think so). But in addition to what killed tanki online (... money, obviously...) people seem to always miss three more points. By the way, really nice videos, man, and fun editing style. Your last one about tanki had 1.2M views, and just... wow! congratulations~~. I'll be keeping tabs on this channel.
I'll just summarize them here if you don't wanna read through all.
1. Tanki has a massive problem with 'smurfing' --- Road To Legend players, I'm looking at you.
2. Bots. I may be in the wrong here, and if I am, I do apologize, but tanki has bots.
3. Player-base. Tanki just is not new player friendly anymore...
First of all, tanki is one of the games where "smurfing" --- the act of an old player starting a new account in order to en masse commit various war crimes against relatively new players --- is actually encouraged. Road to Legend, meh, such a concept is really, really evil. Seriously, if anybody tried that in most other popular games (like League of Legends **comparing tanki to LOL here cause both give their players a love-hate relationship**), they'd get banned and then damned to the netherworld. Yes, I know that there is no fun endgame stuff in tanki and it makes you want to create a new account, but it is not a good system. And, with the predatory monetization that TO has been going with, most RTL players do end up buying a lot... This makes it so that new players do not really have an incentive to continue playing this obviously P2W game that lets you get stuff easily with money for which you'd normally have to grind for hours. So. No new players. Old players keep buying stuff by creating new account. Tanki makes money. The devs are happy while tanki dies a "stagnant water" death.
(DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT OFFICIALLY PROVED) Secondly, bots... Really, if one observes so much tanki games like I do, they could surely point out that sometimes the teammates just move... predictably, lets say. They move in perfect lines... dont turn turrets... dont make intelligent plays for the flag or point... and if you get infront of them, just ram directly into you and move on without even turning their turrets... and so on. While, the real players do turn turrets to get better grasp of the battlefield, use insane tactics to get the objectives, and actually react if you stand in their path. I know, I may be just being a dum-dum by looking deep into this and creating a whole freaking conspiracy, and I'd feel really stupid if the tanki devs had made an official statement that there are bots in the game, but this is what I feel.
"Tanki has bots, and you win against bots while lose against P2P players, which wants you to be P2P yourself,. So, you buy crap, which allows you to win against bots again, while making you lose against P2P's who had spent more than you. So, you buy JUST one LAST time. But, the cycle starts over again by pitting you against a Crisis (a powerful drone) user who kill you with an insane argument, which then wants you to buy more to get to their level, just to feel good by killing bots again while regretting going against higher P2P's. So, in the end, you buy stuff to kill bots and be cannon fodder for people who buy more than you. If you buy once, NOTHING will stop you from buying more. Trust me. I know how it feels."
Thirdly, tanki just isn't new-player friendly. Like I said, the devs did make it accessible on mobile, but it still suffers a lot when it comes to getting a bigger player-base. Everything can be fixed if it had a bigger player-base. Look at Raid: Shadow legends. You'd be a zombie if you said it doesn't have a p2p system like tanki, maybe even worse than tanki. But it still has a massive playerbase and some people do enjoy it (... by being addicted to the gacha game... ). By having a playerbase, most people would whine about the predatory monetization of tanki, yes, but with a big enough player-base, you'll have a more fair matchmaking (... but with bots in play, I don't know if any kind of MM can be fair in this game). You'll still go against people of your level since there is a large player group, and P2P's will go against people of THEIR level. The problem of smurfing DOES NOT help this case at all, and spending money when you are smurfing is even worse and will scare off any new player that steps in, if they have a brain at all. Some will get through and become the cannon fodder at higher levels, and some may have fun and enjoy the game truly, but most will throw this into the recycle bin after a week of playing.
So... my final verdict... tanki will never attain its peak again. It is now stuck in a loop where it needs a big playerbase for it to continue, but its whole system prevents it from getting new players. The only way out of this loop is if the predatory monetization gets loosened up... but lets face it. It will never be about players. As long as the devs can milk more money, tanki will stay this insignificant blimp in the huge market.

This, just this. Checked out their forums to see if it was worth coming back, after all the new crazy guns, HOVER tanks, drones, overdrives and yadda yadda I just went nah, not worth it. The game used to be so simple, but they made up a bunch of stuff just to buy/grind and that muddied the waters for real, if I got overwhelmed, imagine a new-comer!

The game then was amazingly simple, the textures of tanks were fine and not 3D overhyped as they are today.
And I don't even know how they made it happen but when I tried to play it today, I was so nerve and angry all the time because I couldn't compete with my tank at all.
The game back then was just chill and easy and unable to be angry at.
It was a game of my childhood, aspecially during the summer time school holidays.
Well... We can't do nothing but else than just be happy that this game was just made someday and we had a good time in it for a few years.

Hey you should totally try out ProTanki. It is a clone of tanki that is being kept in the 2015ish state. It only has about 10k players and the servers are only in europe but the nostalgia will certainly be strong. I good hooked by it after not playing for like 8 years. Its literally exactly like the old times.

You haven't seen the worst of the warcrimes yet - you can stun people, take away their supplies, and cut their damage in half now with status effects, locked behind loot boxes.

I remember I discovered Tanki Online in middle school. Showed it to my friends, they showed it to their friends, etc.. and in the end, sharing my discovery of the game ended with the entire school playing Tanki. It became such a problem that the school blocked the website. And us kids just developed work-arounds and kept playing. Good times.

I remember playing this game as a child, im not shure if i 100% remember when i first started playing the game but i think i first played it in 2013 - 2014. However, i sadly lost all of my accounts. And my highest rank was Warrant Officer 4. Man good old times. Also yes, i came back to playing Tanki online, well, sometimes, i mostly play roblox lol.
There is news in the Russian community that the developers are making TankiClassic. It's supposed to be an old game. Our youtubers are already covering this. They even contacted the former TankiOnline news anchor for comment. It looks like this is all an official project to restart the old TankiOnline.
And for a long time now there have been unofficial projects based on the old game
Fed up of people crying about coming back after however long and expecting it to be the same. If you do not keep playing and keeping up with the times, it will inevitably be different. I've played it since late 2009, left 2012 and returned in 2013. Haven't left since and it's still amazing to me. If you do your missions consistently enough, you get a _lot_ of crystals and supplies. Open containers you also get from missions to obtain new augments and stuff. It's never going to be the same, and it will probably, _probably_ never die. If you don't use drugs, or more importantly a drone, (Brutus, is cheap and doesn't use batteries) then you will not survive, I don't care how good you think you are.
It will never 'feel like the old days again'. Give it a chance, do your missions, watch TH-camrs who give tips on how to get better in Tanki, I'd recommend Taspens, who does the best job in my opinion. A real gem in the EN TO TH-cam community. I'm just frankly fed up the stereotypical cry of the old tankers that 'tanki has changed and I'm so not used to it, woe is me etc etc etc '. Go watch some videos on tips and tricks from Taspens and others who have uploaded similar videos and you'll see it's really not that bad. Or don't, either way it makes no difference to me. I'll just keep playing and enjoying Tanki like I have done for the past 13 years. I hope you can see my perspective on this. In no way intending to have a go at anybody. Just fed up of people claiming the game is 'unbalanced' etc because they don't upgrade their equipment and expect it to be the same gameplay experience from 10 years ago. Ffs man. Keep up with the times or become Railgun fodder for me. It's your choice.
On a completely different note, ian's videos are superbly edited and I really enjoy them. Keep going man. Maybe you won't ever enjoy the game again, and maybe that's okay. There are other games out there.

The granade that killed you from far is from the turret called magnum. And that's not all, but the best is when you dont even get touches by it, because it flies above you, no explosion, no hit, but kills you...
If you ever played Tanki X, I believe you should try Revive TX. What I personally LOVE about Revive TX:
You could use modules (which have same effect as supplies and much more at NO COST). The only downside is the cooldown time (which balances things)
There are only 3 levels for hulls and turrets. M0, M1, M2. What IS PHENOMENAL: you do not need crystals to upgrade them. You do not need to grind the **** Out of the game to get Good combos. I played just a bit to get M1 on Wasp and Isida compared to the grind nightmare of TO
There are only the classic hulls and guns in there (hammer and vulcan added).
Downsides:
Matchmaking system we All hate
No Control Points game mode(from what I have seen)
Modules need containers which are being bought with…
Premium currency (damn)
A lot of cosmetics can be upgraded only by containers

I feel one of the thing is that tanki has become more complex at higher ranks 😅
Before: Hull + Turret
Now: Hull + Hull Augments + Turret + Turret Augments + Drones + Overdrive
There are tons of augments that totally changes how a turret works. For example one of the augment of Shaft let's you heal your teammates. One augment of Railgun gives instant reload on every kill.
There are really great F2P combos available but only people who understand all the mechanisms well, knows about them.
List of few:
Hornet + Freeze (Adrenaline Augment) + Any Drone (works best with Blaster drone in my opinion)
Dictator + Vulcan (Adrenaline Augment) + Any Drone
Viking + Hammer (High Capacity Ammo) + Any Drone
In any case at the lower rank, it is still only Hull + Turret, so it's much simpler.
That's why if one is an old player, it's much better to start a new account and play on that.
You will eventually learn all about augments and drones, since they will be introduced slowly as you rank up.

Точно не помню. Были в промежутке этого времени обновления, от которых игроков горело и бугуртило. Однако это рядом не стояло с тем, в какой ужас игру превратили сейчас...
The only good thing about Tanki Online today was the fact the support team helped me recover my old account to which I lost the password for, and had no evidence to prove I owned it. They confirmed it was mine by comparing my IP address with that of the account it was logged in from last.

@@DeadAccount53885 barely a miss, imagine having to hit a target directly to kill them from really far away. it also can damage itself, so its not the best at close range. artillery turrets are artillery.

the amount of nostalgia i had with it 🥲 back then i was mezmerized by the dual cannon turret (forgot its name), so i played quite some time to get it. but then after getting killed so many times by players using railguns turret, i start to grind it. damn that was fun, the ricochet was also a very nice turret. the 2010s-2015s era are unforgettable years of my life

Probably second of the games I played for over 5 years. I loved it when there was Semyon Kirov in the vlogs and the weekly updates had me so excited. I did commit some childish mistakes and got banned MANY MANY times, I remember crying so hard that my father used to get my account back for me. The game was all about skill but look at the state of it now; supplies abuse, overdrive to worsen stuff, pay to win content, etc that ruined the game fully.
Lastly, the augments of all; LIKE IMAGINE A MAGNUM USER RETURNING TO THE GAME JUST TO SEE THE ARTILLERY DOESN'T WORK AS AN ARTILLERY. It burned me; especially the cost to unlock that augment for the magnum.
I was still good with the railgun but projectiles were my thing.
The amount of memories I made even with friends that I have never met IRL but in this game are innumerable; and I somehow have crystal clear memory of what happened on certain days. I remember crying about not wanting to go to school and at home, I would be playing a certain map; I remember it till date.
What's left of this game now is just something that I can't bear to watch anymore; it already started paving its path to its downfall around 2017-2018 (I suppose).

I played the game so far that the og adds seen in this video was what I dealt with, where crystals were sparce and the supplies were more like what we actually call them ("drugs"). Where railgun was just a line and isida was the "electric" gun. When the shots changed color based on upgrade level (by that I mean all the guns, even thunder and smokey had a shot color change), where firebird breathed both blue and purple flame. Where legacy skins were not the legacy...they were the game. I now play it and am the highest I've ever been (captain, two ranks under your own my friend) and I enjoy the game as much as I did in the past, and I do have fun, but I have fun because it's always funny to be half way across the map with something that isn't a long range turret like railgun shaft magnum or scorpion...and still 1 shoting a innocent wasp as it tries to cross a bridge.
I've been playing tanki for a solid 15 years now, and up until this point, no youtuber has perfectly captured the essence of absolutely hating the game yet still wanting to play it. Wonderful

Haven't played this game anymore since late 2017, because the amount of p2w became so rampant that you were constantly fighting guys who spammed boosts and had very highly upgraded turrets and hulls and grinding for crystals wasn't worth it and so I decided to quit rather than to join the p2w just to be able to compete ( never spent a dime on this game and after 2014 I became more of a on and off player )
Although I must say that I was kinda cracking with the magnum turret when it released since not many people knew how to properly use it and found it pretty fun to play with even though I wasn't winning or having a decent kda.
I remember this game like it was yesterday me and my friends played endlessly for weeks in the summer I got the highest rank you could get at the time (I forgot what it actually was) but this was nostalgia at its finest

What's funny is that I played this game back about 6-7 years ago back on the old school apple laptops they'd give out(no chromebooks in sight) during the day, and recently(as of 2021-2022, I relived that old time feeling, now with my own computer. Although yes, I do not like the way they went, but at the end of the day...
Tanki is still the old Tanki, and I still find the joy of playing a few rounds now and then, feeling like it was the end of the school day in 2015-2016. Do wish I could find my old account again, but eh, thanks to Steam having a port of Tanki, I'm able to have the engine be reliable, and a reliable method for accounts.

The game has changed massively over the past couple years.
Thing is, you can still get to having a great tank, and kick major ass, without needing to spend any money at all.
You just need to keep playing, upgrading, buying a good drone and protection modules and so on.
The game now has been made a lot sleeker, but also more complicated in the actual gameplay because you need protection modules, combined with augments on both turrets and hulls, then there's the drones as well that do other things.
YesterTanki the paints had effects, but not any more, it's all in augs, drones and modules.
I haven't spent a single penny on Tanki in the 10 years or so I've been playing. It's simply about playing A LOT to get to where you want to be.
The major problem with the game, is the players who ignore battle modes, and drive around randomly playing deathmatch, regardless of the actual battle mode.
It's tough to get diamonds together when your team just won't actually play the mode and you lose 10-0 and only get 200 diamonds, every single fucking battle.
tl;dr game is grindy and demands all of your free time, no thanks.
@@CyberVonCyberus ??? when you reach legend rank, the only reason to play tanki is on weekends where they ALWAYS give double exp and crystals and ultra containers. All most ppl do is complete special missions on weekends. Supplies aren't a hassle, crystals aren't a hassle, tank coins aren't a hassle so besides the trash bots u get in matches, there isn't any major problem with the game

god the nostalgia, i played it when every student in primary school played it on the computers during breaks.
I played it back in 2012 aswell, but it just got worse. Its unrecognizable. Back then it was deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag and controlpoints. You had like 8 hulls, 8 turrets, no drones and mo chips. It was nice. Now its just pay to win.
From someone that still plays this game, scorpion, gauss, magnum, railgun and shaft are very deadly at long range.
Especially scorpion, that turret locks onto the enemy, and you can track him through walls, and pummel them with rockets!
I did the same and rejoined to new Tanki Online.
I missed for the old upgrade system like M0, M1, M2... That was so much pleasure to get your weapon or hull a new view.
Lobbies are another one thing I missed for - random matches are quite boring to me.
Maybe someone will bring up an old Open Source version of Tanki Online?
