    Finally! A proper guide that tells me how to hook up a 4 pin PS4 to an ATX PSU! I have been looking everywhere for this!

    Followed these instructions and got a PS4 Pro that I purchased for $100 back up and running 😁......man you are a life saver. Used a 550 Watt Cooler Master. I'll most likely keep it this way until I can find an ADP-300ER power supply.

      Are the pinouts on the small connector the same or are they located differently?

    I know this videos is years back, but to be on the safe side, guys who is trying this now, please connect at least 3 yellow(+12V) and 3 Black(GND) to +12V & Ground connection. a single wire will only carry around 7 Amp per wire and the ps4 +12V line uses 16 Amps max. if you run the ps4 on a single wire then wire will get very hot and burn out!, +5v line only uses 1 Amps so 1 single red wire is safe.

    • @peite7878

      Very good info! And you probably need at least a 400w PSU for Slim and 500w for Pro?

    • @johncoops6897
      @johncoops6897 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peite7878 - a post above by "Yeu Yeu Lim" claims 12V line needs 13A for PS4 and 23.5A for PS4 Pro. Both use 1.5A on the 5V line. So, the PSU that you need is higher than that.... and el-cheapo computer supplies never supply as advertised.

    This works well!
    I grafted a female Molex connector into the back of the PS4's case, soldered and taped the contacts, and glued the connector in place; so it can be plugged / unplugged just as before. Currently powered off my existing PC's PSU with no issues.

    • @slimsketchy1489
      @slimsketchy1489 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you also supplying 12v from same molex or using different connector for it?
      And what watt psu are you using? Thinking of doing this because power supply units are expensive af here.

    • @Loki128
      @Loki128 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@liamli9062 It still works fine. I do need to make a modification and solder on a second Molex connector, so that the current goes over two sets of wiring instead of just one - as currently the wires themselves get very warm while in use.
      While it works, I wouldn't necessarily rely on this as a long-term solution though.

    • @Loki128
      @Loki128 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slimsketchy1489 I'm using a Corsair CX450M as the PSU. The wiring isn't cheap and thin, and it can supply nearly the full 450W across one 12V rail, which is more than enough for the PS4 (not sure about the Pro). I used one Molex connector for everything, but in hindsight I need to modify it to use two, to split the current across two sets of wiring - when using only one, the wiring gets very warm, and this would be even more sketchy with a cheap power supply.

    If your unit is shutting off use two 12 volt wires instead of one to up the amp

  • @RN-pf8vr
    @RN-pf8vr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    3rd wire is the on signal (it will be written as acdc_stby). When you press power southbridge sends 3.3 to 5v signal to psu to turn on the 12v. 4th wire is acin_det which is also 5v and tell the ps4 motherboard that power supply is good.
    How exactly do you power off the system?
    What should be done is on the ATX smps, the green and ground wire should be wired to NO contact of a 5v relay and the coil should be powered by the 3rd wire and ground.

    Here's a comment of how i got it
    -On the two big pins I put three yellow wires and three black wires
    -In the 4 small pins I made it the same as the video but the two that are connected to red I put one to each one
    -the way it is in the video it turned me on but it did not run games because it turned off, so I experimented with the cables and in this way it has gone well for the moment

    -my ps4 was struck by lightning and i thought i was already dead but this worked so good video xd

    Hi, thank you so much for this video. Will this work if I cut off all the other unnecessary wires? Also is it possible to have a small computer PSU and fit it inside the PS4 itself?

    • @rsalisbury
      @rsalisbury  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bharath Ram sure, cutting the rest off is fine. After the video, we passed the wires through the case and put ps4 cover back on, and hot melted the psu to the outside to clean it up a bit. We also used a house light switch on the two psu wires that control the power so it is now switched. Looks ghetto, but the ps4 almost seems to run smoother, and gets nowhere near as hot with the external power supply.

    However some power supplies might not work, at least I had a 480W cheap power supply for testing stuff and with the green to black tricking the power supply to turn on, it seems mine kept on a low power state of some sort, I couldnt even push 100w or it would shut down right away, only a few watts worked on mine.
    And it seems some people needed to add 2 cables of the power supply, meaning one rail of their crap PSU might not be able to be enough to do the job, I guess if it doesnt work you can try 2 cables, like 2 12v cables to see if it gets more juice (only would work if it the cables would come from 2 different rails off course).
    Some might also not be the PSU failing, some might need the clamp fixing or a complete reballing of the APU.

    1000 times better than sony Power supply units. İf your psu gets damaged, grab an old psu from an old computer. Connect 5v and 12 to ps4. Tape the psu to ps4 and make it look good. Play 20 years without psu Problems again.

      julio moncada I had the same problem and what I did was instead of connecting 1 yellow wire I used 2 and it stopped turning off once I started games

      Maybe the PSU you got has a weak rail so it needed 2, or might be like my cheap PSU that I had for testing which wouldnt ever stay strong with the green connected to a ground to turn ON, I could only use a few Watts until the power supply shuts off by it self while connected to a PC it would work at full power...

      now use a fat ps3 source, you can turn it on and play for an hour and I turn it off, after several tests the ps4 does not turn on anymore, it only turns on blue LED, and it does not give an image I think the CPU came to an end

      guily6669 I was reading an article where it says only 8 amps go through every yellow wire and the PS4 power supply says it needs 16 so that's why I connected to wires and it stopped turning of during gameplay, the PS4 s been running good with game time of up to 5 hours without a problem

      I don't think its like that... most power supplies usually have all the power on a single rail or few with enough juice for anything. Nowadays probably all have some kind of multi-rail internally with protections (even the single rail ones probably still have some kind of multi-rails inside)... All have different amp capabilities, they are rated on the box or power supply stickers.
      Some weaker ones however even though lets say you had a 500w power and would be pretty enough for the whole PC, some high amperage devices like a powerful GPU might still not work if the 12v rail is too weak...
      Mine was very old and crappy, I couldnt make it work at full power with the green+black connected for testing stuff here, it keeps shutting down with low wattage.
