Three torpedo sets give you nice options for target course prediction. Choose the first two for the predicted or most likely course, and the third set for an alternative e.g. escape course a target might choose. You win!

I use the skills that increase the firing rate of the guns once spotted. Saved my ass in unintentional gun fights.

I'm not sure I'd use Fearless Brawler in an IJN destroyer. It's a good skill, but very expensive for ships that don't necessarily want to get spotted. With that said, on Fubuki or or Shinonome or Akatsuki it might make sense.

Great video. Keep them coming. Love how you put your hands up when you goof and also your reasoning for how. I've gone back to the lower tiers as they are more fun and less stress full than t10 stuff where the margin for error is very low. Also as a newbie i rushed thru the lower tiers without really getting to know them that well. Fubuki is a favourite of mine and definitly punches above it class when played well.

Love my Fubuki, my most played ship with just under 1800 matches and a WR of 57%. It does not dominate at top tier, but it does well at bottom tier. Well balanced when played to it's strength, and very much a glass canon. For every 60K+ damage game expect 2 games under 20K damage. This is no Kamakazi.
Hard YES to Radar Location. It helps find that hole to set up the ideal torp run for the Dev Strikes. Screw up the torp run when inside 10 of your BB target is a good way to get back to port quickly. RL is a reassurance that you are in a safe position releasing your 3 racks at 6.3KM.
Why so close? - The IJN toprp spread is wide. I don't think the stat is captured anywhere, but IJN DDs have more space in between each torp than most/all other DDs. Because of that, you have to abuse your spotting range to land more than 1, maybe 2, torps. So you need to KNOW that the red DD isn't about to surprise spot you as you rub that detection range.
I don't take the Depth Charge mod, but I do take the Heavy Ammo Capt Skill. That gives another 10% Depth Charge damage topping out at 5060 damage for a direct hit. If you set it up right, you only need the 2 charges because 4 near misses will prob take out any sub you encounter.
Great little ship for a slow paced, very delayed gratification, and nail biting type of gameplay.
    Good review. o7

    Thanks for another great video.
I am curious about your thoughts about this whole IJN torpedo boat line. I checked wows-stats for all regions and found that this whole line is at the very bottom of the win rate distribution within its tiers. Gunboats are fine, kamikaze is super OP - but this line (Mutsuki, Fubuki, Kagero, Yugumo...) seems to be objectively worse than any other.
I am grinding all lines in parallel, but I must admit I am struggling a lot with this one... And even Shima doesn't look lucrative to me. Most of T10 matches I am encountering are either sniper fests or complete blowouts.

So I started playing Japanese DD's (I'm BB main and not good one at that) using this guide. One thing I will say - it was not fun to play it, until I got 10 points on my captain and concealment down to 6km. You can say - it's only 700 meters, but this 700 meters makes it almost certain that I will be easily out-spotted by any DD. Which often happens in range of either at least one cruiser or even more annoyingly (usually) German BB. And while the game rewards you a bit for spotting, if you don't have at least 30K damage and/or at least 1 kill, it doesn't reward you well enough. I had games where I did 2000 damage, but I had spotting damage on like half of enemy team and result was poor. Which is annoying. But then again, I'm even worse on DD's than on BB's.

Your timing on this comment is actually pretty good. I've been playing Tier VI American destroyer Farragut on a fresh account with a captain who only has 8 points (thus, no Concealment Expert). It's a different kind of challenge for sure. The overwhelming majority of things out-spot you. In such cases, I try to find a friendly destroyer who has better detection than I do - which is mostly all of them - and play about a kilometer or two behind him, so that when he's spotted I can chip in and help him win the gunfight. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The extra concealment helps for sure; before then, I found you really do have to play the ship a little differently - and less aggressively - than you might like.
I'm surprised to hear you say you aren't being rewarded for spotting damage. The rewards for it now are absolutely amazing, far better than at any time in the game's history for destroyers. I recently had a game in a T9 destroyer with ~80k damage (hardly record-breaking) but over 240k spotting damage for nearly a 3000 base XP game.

      @jannegrey 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@SeaRaptor So... I wrote a lot. Apologies. TL;DR - yes spotting damage is better now than it used to be. But you still don't get too much even if you manage to do crazy amounts of spotting damage, if you only spot. And despite being player for quite a while my highest Tiered ship is Amagi. I'm not good at this game. At best I can do decently in Tier 4 or below and so-so in T5 as long as it is T4-T6 game. Above that I'm terrible.
When it comes to spotting damage it certainly is better than 4 years ago (I joined a bit after CV rework). Or perhaps even much better, but it still feels like doing the kind of game where you only spot for your teammates and hardly do any damage is unrewarding. Though I had "mixed" games (so a bit of spotting a bit of fight) with 20k dmg and over 100.000 spotting damage where I was in the upper half of score table. Definitely a rarity for me. And unexpected, since I'm usually in bottom 3 on my team. Also it doesn't help that CV's spot so much.
For the kind of player I am, I'm trying to get an "achievement" (any) for the "Hood" mission. Unlike those unicums on Jingles channel, I rarely get any (though in this case I researched T5 German Battleship Konig - since I didn't have any German or British ship from T5 or higher). And yes, I know they are definitely top 5% of players, but you'd expect that in 10 games I would get "any" achievement. Honestly the only achievement on any ship that I get from time to time is "First Blood". If I had better PC, I would record my matches and show them on TH-cam. And sadly that last mission cannot be done in co-op. If it wasn't I could try for ram, but I don't want to screw my team with it. And I don't even know if it still does give you any achievement (it used to be the case that you could get "It's just a flesh wound" award). Forget "Kraken Unleashed" (which in Random game I had twice in my life) or "Confederate" (I don't know if I ever had it even).
As for playing DD without "concealment expert" above T5 (and I think before you can have concealment module on the ship) is nasty. Honestly the "don't pick up longer range guns" is the best advice ever. Though as self explanatory as it sounds, you might want to do a tutorial on how to do the "slow down and speed up" method, plus maneuvering to avoid damage in DD fired from medium and long ranges.
Again, I think I've been playing since 2020. I would have to check when the replay named "Trigger Finger" on channel "Scottish Koala" was published, featuring amazing game with Ostergotland - that game is worth watching even today. I fell in love with the game and decided to install it after watching it. And with all that the "best" ship I have is T8. Amagi. And I mostly have only Japanese ships. Of course there is another reason for my slowness. People back then used to have 1 captain that they moved between BB's to the next tier. So they were trained well. I was unaware of this, so I started from 0 or from 3 points captains always and I didn't jump to new ship before I had level 10 at least. So that's how bad I am. 4 years and I still have to get Tier IX ship.
Or other way to put it - I can play below average in Tier 5 ship if it is T4-T6 game. T7 is usually too difficult. I can play average in Tier 4 matches. Tier 6 and above, especially when I'm uptiered - I'm terrible. Only recently have I managed to remember to not rush past first 3 squares in BB. Or to do complicated maneuvers like Retreat. I get tunnel vision and despite having map on the biggest setting, I do lack awareness (Though TBF it would help if distance that is written on ships would use a bigger font - I have trouble reading it and that's why I often screw up my detection range in DD's).
I went for your Tutorial after a brutal game in Amagi, when enemy had Shimakaze and denied whole flank, a cap and killed 7 of my teammates while being spotted once - about 2 seconds before the end of the match (which was my death - surprisingly my crazy maneuvers allowed me to survive for long - but sadly I had to go and hunt them in attempt to try to win the match). I would love to be 10% as good as this person.
Still. Thanks for this tutorial. I got a bit better after the T5 one. And you do give good advice when it comes to commander skills, signals etc. And also what not to do.

I'm glad they help a little bit, at least.
One of the only cures for a good DD on the other team is a good DD on your team (or a good radar cruiser). If you have neither of those things, a clever DD player will never give you the opportunity to shoot at them, and Shima's torpedo power is ridiculous.
There's nothing at all wrong with focusing on the mid-tiers. IMHO, that's where the game is (a) the most fun and (b) the most rewarding. You can make the occasional mistake without getting slapped for all your HP in an instant, which allows you to learn the class(es) you are playing better. It's where incoming damage feels high enough to be impactful but not catastrophic in one instant (usually). It's the best place to enjoy and learn the game and develop skills to improve (if that is your aim).

these come from mods you have to download separately. the two biggest sources are 1. modstation or 2. aslains. which one you choose i dont think makes much of a difference, as they offer the same mods for the most part. they say aslains is quicker with updates when a new version of the game goes live. i personally use aslains and i would recommend that to anyone who asks about it. it has a very easy to use installer and preview of what the mods do, you just go down a list and tick little boxes of the stuff you want, then just click install at the end and its done. it really is idiot proof so even i got it right on the first try.

Balance reasons. Original Fubuki at T8 did have 3 turrets; when they dropped her to T6, they had to yank one to keep her firepower in balance.
