Crazy how a lot the Buddy & Dennis Chambers licks are really simple stuff with slight tweeks - the HARD part is taking it into Hyper Space.. Great Vid Jason, thanks
Great. But Buddy also did right hand downbeats followed by 3 & 4 strokes in the left hand too. The idea is to build a rhythm and accent the right hand only and fill in all the notes with your left hand. You can take a few bars from Stick Control and work on it as well. Read only the R rhythm and fill in the lefts.
Where is it take something so simplistic and turn it into something so complicated. Helpful breakdown I find that the more I think the more I struggle and the less the think the easier I can hit these grooves
It's a pa da da! My new name for it anyway. Thee infamous pa da da! Pa da da pa da da pa da da. Triplets! Now, play it in four. The rudiment that made Buddy Rich famous.
That was actually the 1st lick that I learned when I started playing drums. And I always thought I was doing something wrong. As it turns out it was something a great drummer did... Hallelujah
@@TheSuccessfulHuman I don’t understand why some people think that you have to use traditional grip in order to play anything within the jazz genre- it’s just not true! Buddy Rich’s explanation for why he uses it is essentially “cause I always did it like this” lol (anyways, thanks for the awesome video!)
@@TheSuccessfulHuman when the man himself would play these rudiments his right hand would be on other areas of the kit while is left hand appeared to be in a straight up roll. I’m sure u are doing it this way to show the pattern. Man.. I hadn’t played in many many years … I think it’s time to find the funds to buy a kit and play again. I was really good at one point in time before the drugs got me. “Promising” was the stupid term thrown around. Funny to look back and realize that teachers and artists and band leaders in the area were saying something I didn’t understand at the time. Can’t change the past lol. Nice chops on that lick btw

great intuition!
Great.
Now do traditional grip.
Not a problem. :)
Buddy used a trad grip left hand … it makes the difference…. All the difference!
🙏❤️
That’s so easy. Even on an electronic drum set.
well, you have to give Buddy Rich a break. He’s only a beginner.
Aaaa Buddy's left hand💥☝
❤️🙏❤️
keep practicing dude

バディさんは机の上みたいな平らなところにコインを置いて、そこをたたくようにロールをすると、コインが1センチ浮いた状態で静止したと言う話がありました
He did lots of fun tricks. :)
Traditional grip?
Yes, Buddy played mostly trad grip. I do not.
@@TheSuccessfulHuman then, describing the impossible drum lick is impossible without demonstrating it with trad grip?
@@davidolson558Buddy rich himself said it is

Thank you for being here!!
To be as accurate as Buddy Rich You're holding your left stick incorrect in your hand
True. 🙏
Impossible? What? 😂
“Impossible” is what people have been calling this. Obviously Buddy played it much better and faster. :)
