  • In Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft have made two major security changes that can affect mapping drives to third-party consumer NAS or routers with USB storage. 1. By default, SMB signing is required on all connections. 2. Guest fallback is disabled on Windows 11 Pro edition.
So if you cannot access NAS and get error 0x80070035 after Windows 11 24H2 update or you receive "The network path was not found" then read this article by NedPyle

If signing isn't supported by your third-party device, you may get error:
    0xc000a000
    -1073700864
    STATUS_INVALID_SIGNATURE
    The cryptographic signature is invalid
If guest access is required by your third party, you may get error:
You can't access this shared folder because your organization's security policies block unauthenticated guest access. These policies help protect your PC from unsafe or malicious devices on the network
    0x80070035
    0x800704f8
The network path was not found
    System error 3227320323 has occurred
    a. On the Start Menu search, type powershell then under the Windows PowerShell app, click Run as administrator. Accept the elevation prompt.
    b. To disable SMB signing requirement, type:
    Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false
    d. Hit enter, then hit Y to accept.
    c. To disable guest fallback, type:
    Set-SmbClientConfiguration -EnableInsecureGuestLogons $true
    e. Hit enter, then hit Y to accept.
At this point you will be working if Signing or Guest were your real problems.

Hej Brian, thanks for the video; it's very useful. I had read about that problem and its fix with NAS on Windows 11 version 24H2 earlier, but it's good that you also posted a video with a fix for NAS on Windows 11, version 24H2. I'm running Windows 11, 24H2, but there has been a slightly shaky rollout of Windows 11 24H2 for many. However, it's not all Windows' fault; it also takes time for different companies to release new drivers for software and hardware for a new Windows version. So, the best thing is to wait a couple of months before updating to a new Windows version, as you also say, Brian. I want to thank you, Brian, for all your videos posted in 2024 and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year..

Oh my god, after hours of searching and trying solutions this is what helped me. And I'm not even using NAS, I don't even know what that is, I just needed this for my handheld gaming console, I couldn't share files to it over wifi. Literally nothing else worked except this. You saved me.

The latest update not only stopped access to the NAS, it also stopped my onboard sound from working. Double trouble! The instructions in your description got the NAS accessible, thank you so much for that. Now to try to get the sound working..

I also had connection issues with all my mapped drives not connecting. At first I thought it was my NAS, then noticed drives mapped to my security pc (always on) also had a red X through the drive letter. Figured it was a windows issue then, with the only change being the latest Windows update. I simply disconnected, then remapped my drives. Been working fine since. But if it happens again I’ll follow your steps.

Thanks. I just ran into this on my QNAP NAS. I was able to access the QNAP by typing in the IP address, but not by the network share name... e.g. "\\QN1-User". Making the change to "Enable insecure guest logons" regained the share name access. My QNAP is fully updated. Is there something I should fix in the QNAP so this is not needed? I do have a USB drive plugged into the QNAP as well (was using it for FTP storage access for a very old webcam - maybe it's time to get rid of that). Sigh... well at least you pointed me in the right direction.

Thanks for this video - it got me looking for solutions in places I wouldn't have know to look for.
I tried your suggestions, and I still cannot access my Synology NAS through mapped drives. What is interesting is that I have 4 computers in my household and they are acting differently in regards to mapping to my Synolgogy NAS.
On my Lenovo ThinkPad, which is my primary computer, I upgraded to Windows 11 Pro 24H2 on December 20. I had no problem accessing the drives I had already mapped until December 25, when the connections dropped. At that point, I kept getting the same message asking for Windows UserName and Password to access the device. On January 2, my laptop received a Windows Features update and all of my previously mapped drives appeared and I can access them on my NAS. However, I cannot map any new drives to the Synology NAS as it asks for the Windows Username and Password.
Meanwhile, I have a Windows 11 Pro stuck on 23H2 because Windows cannot update and I keep getting the same error. I corrected that a few months ago after hours on-line with Microsoft, but now the problem is back again. I can still access the mapped drives on this system. I'm probably going to leave that computer intact since I don't need immediate access to it and it still maps correctly.
Then I have two other Windows 11 Pro computers that automatically updated to 24H2. I cannot access my Synology Drive via mapping on either of these computers even after following your instructions.
So, it would seem that NAS storage devices have some catching up to do to Windows 11 Pro 24H2. Fortunately I can access everything via Synology Drive and Quick Connect, so I can wait for solutions to unfold. It is nonetheless strange how different computers on the same network are reacting to SMB connections.

:( unfortently I just came across this with the latest update and I have all the settings changed and I still cannot access my NAS, I get either I dont have permission to access the share or that the server cannot perform the requested operation. I have systems with 23h2 and a 22H2 and both systems still have access to the NAS.

I've tried all this to access my Pi usb music SSD to no avail. Used to work using //volumio but not any more, I have to use Winscp which isn't the end of the world but still annoying.

Try enabling SMB 1 and see if it connects, you can always remove it after.

For me, 24H2 deactivated my Windows product key. It also broke Nvidia DSR scaling from 1080p to 1440p and I was experiencing other miscellaneous issues. I decided to roll back for now. After rolling back, my product key was activated again. Apparently, many others have reported this issue with the product key.

@srinivaspanuganti5609 To rollback, go to Settings ... Windows Update ... Advanced Options ... Recovery ... Go back (button with the following text" - if this version isn't working try uninstalling the latest update"). Then follow the prompts including submitting feedback to the Feedback Hub section if needed.

@@srinivaspanuganti5609 after you roll back, be sure to pause uodates for 4 weeks. It will prevent the update from reinstalling any time soon. Hopefully, Microsoft will fix the issues/ bugs with 24h2

Does anyone know a solution to a changing IP for a NAS every time the router is reset?

    • @RN1441
      @RN1441 หลายเดือนก่อน

What you're looking for is a router setting called 'IP Reservation' or 'DHCP reservation' depending on the device. It tells the router that a device with a specific MAC address (12 digit hex string like B1F2C3D4E5A0) maps to a specific IP address so any time the router sees that device it gets assigned that IP address.
