Seeing those guys help pull up those deep potato roots really touched my heart. I was reminded of potatoes in our garden. It was around this time of year, hot, humid, the air heavy with rain just about to fall, and the potatoes were ready. A storm from a hurricane a few hours south was scheduled to bring weeks worth of unrelenting rain and flooding and would saturate the ground a ruin our crop. My dad was worried that too much water would rot our potatoes. So out we went one night after my Dad got off work. He pulled up all the potatoes plants and my brother, mother and I dug in the mud, it had already started to rain. We dug and dug in the mud to get all those potatoes. The smell of earth and fresh potatoes was so amazing. As a kid, this is fun, like playing in the mud, but we were hurrying because of the rain. The water table is high in southeast Texas, so the soil is really muddy and will suck the shoes right into the earth. While digging for those potatoes, a small snake got into the mix. I am lucky I didn't get bit. #Gardeningmemories. I think the day before, or summer after this, we had a similar episode with our corn and the high winds of the hurricane. I'll save that one, for when you take in corn.
I read something about some who left the colony. I think there are good and bad everywhere , no group, organization, or individual is immune. I think all the decent people justr try their best to live a nice life. Whether an individual lives in a colony or not, it does mean that one does not see the positive or negaitive around them. The colony or any type of living is a choice and those who choose are well aware of everything. At least you have each other. Thank God for each other. Those on the outside, many have no where to turn in times of crisis or to share joy with. Take care of one another. God Bless
I'm glad you got some rain. We got a little but we need many more inches. Our sky has been hazy due to the wildfires in the western USA and Canada, but the smoke is supposed to blow away tomorrow, allowing temps nearing 100 and VERY humid. That weather makes me sick, unfortunately. I like your lilies! I have Oriental and my husband has Asian. I was amazed at the amount of pickles y'all made. One jar lasts us 5+ yrs. I froze our first picking of peas yesterday. Our green beans are not nearly as far along as yours. Those are my favorites, almost ahead of tomatoes. Thanks for this vlog, and I pray you'll have a wonderful time camping. God bless.
2:27 It's the first time I see a cucumber flying and refusing to become a pickle, hahaha. It said: I don't want to live in a jar, I want to be freeeeeee.
Giselle! The editing on this video was really cool! I liked it when the camera battery died and then you recharged it. Hope you have fun on your camping trip!
Oh my, HONEY! I win for number of commenting entries today. We had our own honey growing up also. My dad still does this. We don't have any of those tools, but I don't think it's tons of honey so we don't need them. It's so perfect tasting. I heard that the flowers and things around it influence the taste of the honey.
Hey Giselle! What an awesome thing here in the middle of my week is to see one of your beautiful videos. You are such a beautiful young lady. I love the part about the honey i love honey. Can't wait to see all about the camping trip I hope y'all have a great time. I pray blessings to u and all ur family. God bless u Giselle. Love your videos. 🙏🥰✝️💕
Another wonderful vlog! I see you folks are getting enough moisture to grow your gardens, for which I am happy. Beautiful produce! I live on the very Southwestern tip of Lake Superior and we are in such a drought; all rain dissipates in our corner of Wisconsin. It is so dry that we have to use City water to keep our plants alive. However, our raspberries have been early and prolific. Our skies have been very hazy as well from the wild fires in Canada. We are about 150 miles from the Canadian border. I see on the news that the USA/Canada border will reopen in September. I suppose all of that depends on the Delta variant’s spread. Ugh!!
I especially like the Uplifting Bible quotes at the end. Thank you for fulfilling the mission of all Christians. Your community must be very pleased with this aspect of your vlog.
Oh my goodness, I could watch - in slow motion with all the sounds- the pickling process in great detail- the slicing of the items, the lids being placed on, jars being moved. It all reminds me of summer and HOME. I LOVE your videos.
02:37 Bloop!! Mr Pickle's flying circus! I hope the weather holds and you get to go camping! But if not I hope you have a nice second half of the week anyways. :)
Surprise Giselle video in the middle of the week?! Yes, please!! I would watch anything you put out (and have!), but this was my kind of video. I especially enjoyed the honey process. I hope you get to go camping!!
Thank you for sharing your life with us! I soo look forward to seeing your videos! Your excitement for life and happiness in all that you do makes me so happy and brings me peace to my heart! ♥️
Hi Giselle!! I love watching your videos 😊 and a bonus one, even better. I can’t wait to see your video on camping, my family is going camping this weekend. 😊 the scripture at the end with the singing was beautiful 🥰
Did I see mustard growing? I like the hefty sprigs of dill in the pickles. I hope the fires that have raged in Canada have not affected the colony. A major blessing is that you have your own fire company. When searching for a companion for life do you travel to other colonies to visit and see if there are any of interest? Of your sect are there any in the USA? I have heard the borders may open soon what a blessing for families to gather again.
It's very warm and muggy here in the UK, were in a middle of a heatwave, so plenty of water and ice to keep hydrated, I love the way you live within the commune all coming together to work and you all do it with a smile and a giggle which always makes me giggle as well ,keep bringing your love of life and mostly the love of God, and the singing brings so much joy 🙏❤
Another great video Giselle! I’m so happy to see the success you have and as always all of the fresh food that you guys grow looks amazing. I look forward to watching these every week so thank you from the bottom of my heart for making such great videos. Keep up the good work! 😁😁
I love watching your videos! Thanks for sharing your life and showing us your days. I had never even heard about hutterite communities before seeing your videos. Have fun camping!
I love pickles my mouth is watering from watching you ladies make them.I grew up eating them from a big barrel in the store you just took how many you wanted. I moved but not sure they still have these due to crazy sin in our world. Also loved seeing the honey extracted that was interesting. I wish someone who knew much narrated the process on honey collection. Maybe next time?
We have had the same weather here, hot and humid with the wild fire smoke. Pickles look really good! Do you pickle carrots and string beans? They are so delicious 😋 thank you for sharing and hope you have the camping trip 😊
Thank you! All the fresh vegetables, pickles and honey were exciting to see! It’s not so hazy in Ontario today, but I understand all those forest fires send a lot of smoke! I hope you get to go camping!❤️
I don’t know what it’s like in your part of the Province today, but we are getting the sweetest rain today in my part of southern Manitoba! Thank you, God! We have had the driest summer I can ever remember. While I hope you do get to go camping sometime, the rain is a blessing.
I love all those fresh veggies being picked. The Lord surely blesses us with gifts from the garden. That looked like alot of honeycomb, do you guys have someone who is the beekeeper? That would make an interesting segment. I hope you get to do your camping trip and have a wonderful time.
Giselle I live just south of Winnipeg and our gardens are not near as bountiful as yours. Such an abundance of beautiful cucumbers, cauliflower and broccoli. What kind of fertilizer does your colony use? And do you irrigate your gardens or do you water them manually? I love, love your vlog. ❤ Thank you for this weeks extra episode. It was a nice surprise.
It must take an amazing amount of coordination to organize each part of your colonies work that needs to be done! Do the people in charge of each part have to meet with each other - for example cooking and gardening to make sure the job times don’t conflict? Giselle what is the name of your devotional?
I have a strange housekeeping question for anyone really. But I saw the RAIN on the patio chair cushion. This happens to everyone, I am sure. My patio cushions stayed dry the first year I had them, and now they are soggy and by the time it drys, it rains again. Wah. I got some spray for them, and did one side yesterday and will do the other today. What do you guys do after the rain to dry them out? Anything different? It's the little things in life (a dry seat).
What a treat to see you midweek. My cucumbers are coming in too. I've had a few tomatoes but there's been so much rain this summer I'm afraid my yield may be small. It's rained almost everyday during July in Massachusetts. I hope you'te having fun on your trip. Thank you for all the work you do putting together the videos. They truly brighten my days. Jean
Thank you for the blog! Fresh home grown honey must be the best!! I am in Anchorage Alaska and we have very Smokey skies right now. We are told it is from fires in Siberia - your smokey skies might be from the fires in the PNW. I hope you are able to go camping - be safe and have fun! Blessings and thank you again for a new vlog..

Hello dearest Giselle! You are looking sunkissed and gorgeous!! Your vlogs just always put a little happy in my day. Those cucumbers and pickles were a glorious sight. I loved watching the comb being scraped off the bar. Do you do anything with the wax? Like, add it to your salves? I would have loved to see the whole honey harvest. It's so satisfying! Good music this week too!
I know you’re not in charge of the potato harvest but I’m wondering why you dig them up so early. As long as the tops are green, the potatoes will grow bigger.
