  • Ok folks.....Here we have a VERY VERY( you have no idea) RARE video of one night that I, Jeff Vash, sat in on the B3 Hammond with #John Lee Hooker and the Coast to Coast Blues Band at The Stone on Broadway in San Francisco on March 30th 1985, performing the song "BOOGIE CHILLEN", and who comes walking out on stage to jam with us? None other than the infamous #Carlos Santana!!! The band at this time consisted of......Mike Osborn on guitar, Larry Hamilton on bass guitar and vocals, Tim Richards on drums, Roy Rogers on slide guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar and vocals!!!! This video was shot onstage by one of the house videographers, so it's only showing one side of the stage, and also done with VHS, so the video/audio quality isn't the best, but you can still feel the boogie!!!! And I would like to give special thanks to my friend Ron Combs for making this special night happen, AND for finding this video after looking for 27 years!!!!!!

Yes, I agree! And it was a totally impromptu jam…….nothing planned. He was friends with John Lee and would just show up here and there completely unannounced! One of the most underrated guitarists….
Thanks MUCH for stopping by, taking a look AND posting a comment as well!

It's 1:36AM right now, and I can't sleep. I got the blues! There's no use in me layin' down! Oh whoa whoa mmmmm. It feels so good to be this miserable. No one here but me and my cat chillen to the Hook. Tryin' to capture this blue moment in time. It grippin' me. Turnin' me inside out. John Lee performed this in 1985. Damn, I was 20 years old then; I'm 52 now. And he's been dead for almost 17 years now. But his blues still comforts me. His blues still calls to me over the cold, bleak, dark, and dangerous eternity. This past Friday, I bought an Epiphone Riviera. Why? So I could pick up where he left off. But I'm nothin' compared to him. Even his toenail clippings have more talent than me. But I can moan. I can cry. I can feel the blues. They course through my veins like a river of sadness. As if misery and depression was a real and tangible thing. Like a warm blanket with which to wrap myself in and beg for the bittersweet embrace of death to take away all my pain. Indeed, indeed! I'll never, no, I'll never get out if these blues alive! And why would I even want to?

No we were standing off at the second set of standing tables as Carlos was slowly working his way up to the stage. He stopped at our table for a minute then you guys called him up and if you remember he entered from the front of the stage. I new JLH and got to sit in with at the Keystone PA and Keystone Berkeley with him. He was generous like that. I also got to play with Deacon off and on..like everyone for about 10 years.
I never took pic...just went to lots of shows.

@@Hardrawker1 the Grateful Dead is a band who played from the soul.
I grew up in the 60s n 70s. I Remember seeing the Beatles and Rolling Stones on the Ed Sullivan Show. Many great bands came and went and left a ton of great music to listen to for the rest of our lives.
I worked as a Roadie, 8 yrs, for a local Bar Band here in Cleveland Ohio. Wild Horses was their name. They asked the Rolling Stones for permission to use the name. They recorded 4 albums of their own. They were also great friends with an entertainment production company: Belkin Productions; who arranged just about every concert that ever happened in the greater Cleveland Ohio area/region. I met many performers as Belkin Productions owned a huge place in the rural area about 40 miles east of Cleveland and would allow the band's to stay there instead of the cheesy hotels in the city. Was party heaven at that farm. I can't name all who I met, too many bands but I remember well.
      I love my music.
Peace be with you my friend.

Thomas! You and I had the chance to experience a GOLDEN era in music! I too watched the first Beatles and Stones along with MANY others debut on the Ed Sullivan Show.....was AWESOME! There used to be a couple of places in SF, Winterland and the Fillmore, which had killer bands playing 2 or 3 nights a week. I would attend as many of those concerts as my $1.75 an hour job would permit! The band that I play in started in "72, although I'm the only original member now. But, we played all over California, supporting MANY a national act, and have been blessed with MANY a great experience/story!
Thanks again VERY much for the visit, AND for your love of music, as I too share/live that passion!!!
