Wow, what a nice memory I found with this! In 1978 we were once at a buddy's place in Dettingen (Germany) and watched Rockpalast on tv, it went on for a very long time and then I drove home at some point, Rockpalast was also broadcast on the radio and on the way home I heard exactly that concert! I just drove around with it until the end...it totally grabbed me!😃👍 Yes, I am pretty old now...😆
Saw the original band in 1966 at an afternoon concert in the Stanford Union, just in an event room. My roommate said we must go see them. The band seemed to take up almost 1/2 the room, and my god it blew my brains out. I'd never seen anything like it.
It's getting cold outside so we are turning the heat back on again. Starting tonight at 6 PM CEST we will be releasing full concerts again! We start out with a viewer request. Paul Butterfield Band - Live At Rockpalast 1978!
@@stevehady915 Sounds major scale to my ears, (without getting out my guitar). Carlos' career was mostly if not all minor scale. The melody or head of this sounds like something that would have been good for a TV Series soundtrack, back in the day. Nice guitar work and Paul is tearing up that harp.
Butter was experimenting with breathing techniques back then. He could hold a single note on the mouth harp for over 6 minutes .....he was an exceptional musician of any decade .
He used to be anti-drug and anti-alcohol when he started, then something went wrong and his addictions killed him when he was just in his 40s. A terrible loss. One of the first top notch integrated bands when his original rhythm section was Black. Great musicians, great music. Check out his first LPs.
@@budizen3104 I would encorage Butterfield's younger fans to, in addition to the PB Blues Band first two albums (with Arnold, Lay and Davenport), to listen to PB's Better Days albums with a stellar line-up (Barron, Rich, Muldaur, Parker, Garrett). Also Keep on Moving and Sometimes I just feel like smilin are fine albums. Yet, my preferred one is the 1970 Live on Elektra with another top-notch line -up (Madaio, Dinwiddie, Hicks and an awesome Davidson on drums).
Paul Butterfield was always good (the harmonica not always clearly audible in the mix in some songs here - and the - in my humble opinion - "overacting" guitars too loud). But nothing beats the first line-up (the one from the first two albums) with the Howlin' Wolf rhythm section, with Elvin Bishop and with the great Mike Bloomfield. "Butter" was also the only harp player I know who played the harmonica "in reverse": the high notes on the left, the low notes on the right.
Paul Butterfield war einer der besten und einflussreichsten weißen Mundharmonika-spieler. Kommt hier leider nicht rüber. Zumal in diesem Konzert durch die Ton- und Bildregie der Leadgitarrist favorisiert wurde. 🤔

I forgot.
This band is fantastic.
Everybody is on their A game.
Those guitar players good as anyone. Seriously.
Buzz Feiten strat
Never heard of these guys. THANK YOU!!!
Legendary band ...they played at the Woodstock Festival in August 1969
Peter Atanasoff on the Gibson. What a kick-ass lineup.
Thanks for this.
Very Carlos Santana like sound on that first song.

first concert I ever went to...Paul Butterfield at the Troubadour Bonnie Raitt and Freebo opened for him!!!!
The vinyl album with a big ass harmonica picture is one of my all time favorites. " Baby please don't go."
Great concert, thank you!
What a harp player
Outstanding! Thanks for posting!!!
Buzzy Feiten is the most underrated Guitarist ! He was with Paul Butterfield at Woodstock !
That's why Dan Armstrong Senior called him a Super Nova
Amazing guitar builder as well
His guitar line is called Supernova

Paul was and is my inspiration for taking up harmonica when I was 13
1968
1968
That was really nice!
His back albums are super
Good stuff😅
Wow
Well done for putting it on. However, not a patch on the Butterfield Blues Band, with the unrivalled Mike Bloomfield.
I see
I saw their band when they opened for Janis Joplin! What a Great Show!
Man, that was a superb concert. Wish I'd been there...
Ernest"Boom"Carter on Drums
Good stuff guys
Interesting arrangement of "Walkin Blues".
I could have been there - Essen-1 - but I had no money.
Hot ding, Buzzy put the work in.
Bobby Vega on bass!!! 🙂
Thank you for sharing this! I’ve been waiting for this one for a long time! Do you know if The Band ever performed at Rockpalast?
The Band played Rockpalast in 1996. BMG officially released the concert on DVD as "Live At Loreley".
@@MiGmusicchannel thanks!
Äh, you‘re watching the Rockpalast Nacht from 1978.
He died too young and his last period does not do him justice .... Everything is gonna be alright Paul

Sonny Terry
@@drtremolo1 Correct. I forgot.
@@albertjanvanhoek294 I think Levon Helm may have played it that way but not 100% sure. That’s how it seems when I see him play it in videos.
guitar base muito alto..
Sound guy ain’t doin Butter no favors,is he?

would love to see this video but each time i click on it i get one commercial or another but never the video
Good stuff but, the sound guy is screwing Paul, guitars are drowning him out. Mix is wrong
The energy here is great...the mix and intonation of the players is pretty dreadful unfortunately. Tuning matters...a lot.
The Harp recording levels did not do Butterfield justice. Too bad!
Can hardly hear the harmonica dammit!
バジーフェイトンのギターの音がデカすぎ。バンドの音を壊している。音が汚い。
Wow
