    Greetings for rainy UK - I watched your video with interest as I have a few squeeky clutch bearings to deal with on R107 Mercedes SL. Your edited video made the whole process look relatively simple but I bet in reality that wasn't a 5 minute job especially working under jack stands. Thanks for posting. Mike

    I am getting ready to do this same clutch job, except it is on a Chrysler Crossfire but exactly the same. When you used your homemade tool to depress the pressure plate and you said you needed to push that spring back to reset the clutch or pressure plate, I didn't follow. Could you explain exactly what you were doing so I will know what to do? Thanks.

    Hi Ken coming back home from work I think my clutch finally hit the dirt the pedal went half way and although it shifted it makes a grinding noise with clutch engaged so the pedal finally came back up to normal so I am pricing a clutch kit on ebay cheapest is $398 now I been told by several shops its gonna cost me around $2000 in labor does thats sound bout right to you ?? . Wish I was not suffering from arthritis and had a lift and a few day to do this on my time I would attempt it but again I would perhaps eff it up with all the setting of the clutch with those homemade tools . I figured my cars clutch was gonna go out because it has 148,000 and I was not sure how well it was treated by the previous owners . but Im gonna buy the parts ahead of time so the rear crank seal and the trans oil will be changed while it is out I guess I should buy the drive shaft flex plates as well to make this repair right. Im not driving the car I am afraid it will leave me stranded .
    Hope you are well take care

    Sir thank you for this video I have to do this same exact job mainly due to clutch failure with Chrysler Crossfire, the clutch has about 160,000 miles on it. Everything looked as though I can manage this, my only concern is the clutch getting pressed down. I do have a welder or a table like that to have foundation. Any thoughts on how I could make one ? thanks again for this GREAT video!!

    • @1970chevelle396
      @1970chevelle396  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. Anything that’s about 12 inches in diameter with a hole in the center will work to push the fingers on the pressure plate. It’s also much easier to use a regular wrench to loosen it to release it. If your replacing the clutch the pressure plate probably comes reset. You just want to look at the small springs on it. If there all the way compressed , you don’t need to do anything.

      @@1970chevelle396 thanks for fast response, I wanted to ask you couple things, so I bought my XF 04 6spd with 160,000 miles have had for about 2 months been driving fine. Replaced a ton of basic parts underwood. It had been from day 1 at times having trouble with 3rd gear. Anyway the other day driving to work got up to about 4000 RPM and went to go shift into 3rd. All of sudden felt the clutch stick to the floor for a moment and popped back up. I down shifted and pulled into work. All seemed fine. Came out to leave put in gear with no issues and she would not move. I tried everything nothing. Had to tow home..now I know brake fluid in bowl was a little low but not major and yes it was black. I was planning on flushing that weekend. Anyway the clutch goes up in down , does feel a little different but not much. Any thing you could help me with? Could shift cable broke ? Or clutch just gone? This car had 6 owners before me. It was a lease car till about 87,000 miles then sold to an auction. Any help or thoughts would be great. Sorry so long.

    • @1970chevelle396
      @1970chevelle396  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sounds like the clutch slave cylinder is bad if the pedal stuck down. You need to get under the car and look at the shifter linkage. The cable wouldn’t have anything to do with it since thats just a reverse lock out cable.
