- When this abandoned dog rescued Shannon Lorio from a near-fatal car crash, he had to drag her over 100 feet just to find help. But what happened next was even more shocking. This chance interaction would lead him to a hopeless situation, with no one there to save him.

Well Hero did keep leaving those people to sneak around! That pup was probably very unhappy if they treated him according to the way they talked about him (nuisance, problem, trouble, etc). Hey maybe Search and Rescue was in his blood. Who knows if one of his parents were too? He just had to roam around and find something or someone to save!!! Great story. I bet the original couple were ashamed of themselves after the story went viral and he became Search and Rescue. Lol, don't adopt anymore dogs you two!

It doesn't even have to be a HERO dog! If a dog bonds and loves you and your family, most dogs will give their life to save yours! They are one of God's gifts to mankind! ❤

What a great Hero. People just don't seem to understand that dog like German Sheapards are great dogs if loved and cared for properly. Just a Great Pry's. They are also great dogs too. But people just don't appreciate big dogs, not realizing that they could be used as rescue dogs if trained properly. I cried as I viewed this story. Great work!!! Hero!!!

To me, even more important, he has a job. One that he is uniquely qualified for. Even without training, his instincts had been to save a life and even gave him the knowledge and strength to give her the best chance to find the help she needed.

Sadly many dogs are surrendered because the owners did not educate themselves about the dog. Humane societys and shelters should have a list of organizations that can train dogs to help them keep a home or get a job.

Many shelters do try to locate rescues. Our small town shelter had 3 English Setters that came in as strays. We advertised to all rescues, and one rescue came forward and picked them up.

Amazing dog!!! My neighbor texted me the other day that our husky/shepherd mix helped her up her steps sensing she was having trouble breathing and needed her oxygen.. He stood beside her nudging her hand to take his collar then he walked with her till she was seated and could get her oxygen. He's never been taught to do it but goes with me often to check on her when she was able to put her oxygen on my boxer mix laid his head in her lap both stayed with her till I got to her house

It’s a shame it took that long to find a place for this dog. The original owners were examples of poor owners. The dog has a true nick for rescue. That’s where he’ll be the most happy at. I hope he has a great handler and I hope finds love. Someone needs to love this dog so he can share love.

This dog is now where he was meant to be, doing what he was meant to do. I can't blame the owners too much for not being able to handle him. He was a high energy dog that was meant for a better purpose than to be a pet.

Because TH-cam has accused me of being a bully! Because I say things about Monster dog abusers. But, it's OK to abuse them. Abuse the elderly or children trafficking. That's okay. I'll never understand our society. After watching "Nefarious" 3 times the plan that the evil one has for our world. And, it seems to be working out well for him as he said! I have owned two German Sheperds and I had 3 sons we NEVER had a problem with them ever. They do tend to only attach themselves to one person in the family and yup usually it was me lolol. What can I say??? They have a natural instinct to help and protect their human family as well as their home. One time our home was robbed and they found out we had no dogs at that time. The second attempt one of my German Shepherds had 6 training certificates on her and she was always very very quiet. She allowed the burglar to take the screen off the window and open the window and she hid and let them partially in the window and I can guarantee you she got a piece of that robber and she left gouge claw marks in the window sill. When I got home I discovered it all and she looked at me and I hugged her...praised her and of course she got many treats. We never got robbed again thank God and for also sending us Julie my German Shepard.

An amazing story. I think that Hero's mischevious behaviour with his previous owners was probably due to a lack of training & attention, causing a very intelligent dog to become bored & restless. Thank goodness that his amazing ability was recognised. It would be great to hear how he has progressed.

My first German Shepherd was 2 years old, and had had 3 owners before me, when I got her. One of the owners, I later learned, had brought her in to be put down because she was "untrainable." The vet refused to put her down, thank God! Owner #3 worked with my brother. He came to visit told me about her and asked if I’d be interested in adopting her. I said, "YES!." The next day I got home and my brother was there with the 110 lb. Shepherd on a leash outside my house. She started to bark and bare her teeth at me, as she pulled at the leash. I asked my brother if she was going to bite me. I said he didn't know. I asked her name and he said, "Val." I called her by name and talked to her gently. She stopped barking, closed her mouth, and cocked her head. I showed her my hand, which she sniffed. Then I started to pet her as I talked. That was the start. That night, she slept on my bed with me, and from that day on, she was my dog! She even saved my life a couple of times. She spent the rest of my life with me. She was a terrific dog. I even brought her to school with me, while my apartment was being painted, etc. She loved going to school with me. I would let her play with all the kids on the playground at recess, and she'd steal their baseball caps, which they were using as "bases," so they would chase her. At the age of 12, she was at the point where she couldn't walk without great pain, and she had to be put to sleep. It broke my heart. She was my first Shepherd, and she started my love for the German Shepherd breed! For the next 30+ years, I had at least two German Shepherds at my side and sleeping in my bed! I had never had a Shepherd, until I adopted Val. And, sadly, as old and disabled woman now, and I was forced to downsize my dog. I couldn't give a young Shepherd the kind of life they need and deserve. So, don't worry about adopting an adult Shepherd. I did, and had a wonderful 10 years with her! I still love the breed! And, if I find an older Shepherd who needs a home, my door is open! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️My Cavachon loved my last GSD, her German Shepherd sister, Kendall, who has passed on! GSDs are a great dog breed when raised with love!
German shepherds are the best dogs. They are loving and affectionate to their family as well as protective. They are the best combination of love and security. You will get the best from them but you must train them or have the right person to train them. They are A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. BUT THEY ARE WELL WORTH IT!
I am happy that Hero got the opportunity at an important job helping others, as well as a new home. I am happy that Sharon with Hero's help, was able to flag down the truck driver who contacted the police and paramedics, who stabilized her; and got her to the hospital. My whole life, I have always loved and appreciated big dogs. When I became an adult and earned my CPDT certification, it stunned me how many of these wonderful creatures get ignored and abandoned, simply because no one took the time to teach them how to act in our human world. We spend roughly 18 years teaching our own children how to act, yet we cannot give 6 months to a dog for basics? How insane. And the training is so EASY! There is a trainer around every corner nearly, yet there is thousands of dogs getting dumped due to behavior issues that result FROM a lack of basic training. It needs to end. Dogs are human's best friends for a reason. Big or small, they need to be taught how to behave around people.

In the end, humans directly are responsible for the suffering of yet another innocent beings. Everything we do, from having children to adopting animals is for our selfish reasons. For once, if we decide to opt for pain and hurt and adopt a terminal dog or old dog and give them comfort, the dog will show that this selflessness was just what was needed to make us happy. I just love them and their resilience. They are amazing creatures. A perfect balance of animal, intelligence, social, courage and loyalty. More than any other species...
Your 100% correct! Every dog I have ever owned I have had them professionally trained. If the people that give there dogs up because there “savages” or “out of control” it’s definitely NOT the dogs fault it’s the idiot owners fault. It’s beyond obvious that they did NOT follow through with the responsibility of dog ownership! So they are at fault Not the dog!

Amazing story about an amazing dog! Ive had border collies and know the each have had a very different personality from the one before. Years ago when I was 18, I used to go swimming in the local river which had nice sandbars and I took my dog who was a mutt and was large. I taught it to be goofy, it reflected what I was back then. I went into the water and the dog named Merry would pace along the beach basically tracking along with my position. She was afraid to get into the water. Being very fair skinned, I wore a t-shirt and I decided to hold my breath and face down, float along with the slow flow of the river. Before I knew it I heard, even though my ears were in the water, a whining and crying and slashes in the water getting closer. Next thing I knew, Merry had her teeth in my shirt and was swimming, dragging me with her, she dragged me all the way onto the beach! I knew I wasn't in danger but she didn't, and I realized that she had become a hero, too! She had, she thought, saved my life! I never thought of her as goofy again. She was in my mind, now a noble hero!
My family had a German Shepherd when I was growing up.
He saved my life twice from an attacker & a little girl from drowning. She had fallen into a reservoir .

Loved this story! My sister adopted a dog from a shelter years ago when anybody could just pick out a dog and take it home. She kept the dog for about 6 months when there was a police officer at her door. That dog was an officer that they were looking for. They thanked my sister for taking great care of the dog and left. There were no chips at that time. TRUE STORY..
Sad that she lost her friend though. But I'm sure she knew the pup would have a good life! Bittersweet 😔

I had a German Shepard who lived for 14 years and I found Coco (his color was his name) to be an exceptional dog. So I am quite taken by this dogs behavior! This seems to be what that breed is capable of in many cases. They are the preferred Gard Dog in the USAF that I served in in the 1960's. I do not know about now, but they were easy to accept training in those days. Blessed in saving that woman life!

I had a geman shepheard lived 14 years and well loved these dogs naturally develop incredible instinct of survival and they smell the danger so they are highly protective because of that . Buy the way if I could find a female not too young that would accept the presence of my small dog . I would feel much safer living in the country with no neighbours except one at 200 ft away . I like to walk in the woods and appreciate my freedom

What an amazing dog! I am a big dog lover too, I've always been fascinated with collies and shepherds. When my youngest daughter was growing up someone gave us first an Australian Shepherd and second a border collie. Both dogs were very smart and loyal. I loved both of them. We now have a half German Shepherd female and she too is super intelligent and loyal.. I loved the story about Hero and believed it from the start. The dog had a strong instinct to help!
Aside from the accident she suffered, this story has been one of the best in a long time. I hope Hero lives a long n good life. He's such an intelligent dog.
