  • So it ends here again. 5 consecutive Elimination final losses at VFL Park. Coach Kevin Sheedy swung the axe at the end of the season seeing Grand Fowler leave the club, Max Crow go to Footscray and Justin Madden go to Carlton. In would come Premiership (future) midfielders Darren 'daisy' Williams and Alan Ezard among others. 50,537 turned up to see Essendon 16.19 (115) bow out of the finals to North Melbourne 19.14 (128). This caused commentator to call it 'Eliminitis'.

Thanks for uploading James. So great to see this on TH-cam. I was at this match when I was 7. Looking forward to watching it on the weekend. As a young South Australian on holiday in Melbourne way back then, Blight was considered a legend playing in the 'big league'. Still is. Happy days. Can't wait to crack a coldy and watch this in its entirety. Thanks!!!

F**king love the early 80s. Before national game. Uniforms were better than all these BS uniforms these days ... no sponsors on backs and ball. Was a serious comp. that had an authentic following

Geez Sheedy and Essendon supporters would have been so frustrated in 1981/82 as they just keep blowing their chances!
