What did the world look like before the Great Flood? The Antediluvian period, a term derived from Latin words 'ante' meaning 'before' and 'diluvium' meaning 'flood,' refers to a time in ancient history before the Great Flood, as described in the Book of Genesis in the Bible.
A mysterious world, a somewhat unknown lifestyle, creatures that no longer exist, people who lived hundreds of years, giants that are said to have roamed the Earth-these all describe an era that sparks the curiosity of many. But did this really happen? And before the Biblical Flood washed away the old world to birth a new one, what was life really like? How could humans have lived for hundreds of years? Were humans more spiritually advanced during this time?
Flood myths are a prevailing theme in global mythologies, often serving as cautionary tales or explanations for the origins of civilization. In Mesopotamian legends such as the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Atrahasis Epic, characters like Utnapishtim and Atrahasis are warned by gods to build boats to escape catastrophic deluges. A similar story exists in Hindu mythology, where Manu receives a divine warning from a fish, an avatar of the god Vishnu. Greek mythology offers the tale of Deucalion and Pyrrha, who survive a flood sent by Zeus and repopulate the Earth through a unique ritual involving stones. In Native American Hopi tradition, the deity Sotuknang orchestrates a flood, sparing only the faithful who are led underground by the Ant People. China's legendary Yu the Great tackles the floodwaters by draining them through channels, earning him enduring respect. Similarly, African and Mesoamerican myths, like those of the Tutsi in Rwanda and the Aztecs, recount stories of a sole surviving pair who escape annihilation in a reed basket or hollow log. But what was it like before this global flood described in myths around the world?
Accounts of the Antediluvian period often describe a landscape dramatically different from today's. Biblical texts and similar accounts in other cultures often portray the Earth as an idyllic, fertile paradise. It was a time when humanity was relatively new and, according to some interpretations, possessed knowledge or abilities that have since been lost. The land was often described as lush and fertile, filled with abundant resources that made for an easy life compared to the hardships that would follow after the flood.
The descriptions of the world before the flood vary across different mythological traditions, but there are some common themes. Interestingly, in many myths, the period preceding the flood is often marked by moral or social decay, disobedience, or some form of imbalance that prompts divine intervention. For example, in the Epic of Gilgamesh and the Atrahasis Epic from Mesopotamia, the gods decide to flood the Earth because humans have become too noisy and disruptive, disturbing the divine order. Similarly, in the Judeo-Christian tradition, the Bible records the antediluvian period in the first chapters of the Book of Genesis. According to the biblical text, in the pre-diluvian era, human civilization achieved great accomplishments but also created a culture of sin.
So, what was life like for people at that time? What did they do?
Obviously, the first antediluvian family as described in the Bible, was the family of Adam. After being expelled from the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve settled and had sons and daughters. As we know, the first son of the first couple was Cain. But Cain was also the first murderer of the antediluvian world. He brutally killed Abel, his own brother. After his terrible sin, Cain received a mark from God and built a city in the Land of Nod. Cain named this city after his first son, Enoch. This antediluvian city is the first city mentioned in the Bible. In the Sumerian creation myths, this city is known as Eridu.

One thing people miss in the Bible is that Adam and Eve were perfect. When they sinned that became like a dented mold. Humans were not meant to grow old and die. Genetically, people where closer to perfection so they lived longer. Later in the Bible the bible does mention that a mans years are 70 or 80, and by special mightiness more.

Actually, it says man will live to 120, not 70 or 80. Man lived longer pre flood not because of genetics, but because of the atmosphere of the earth. Animals lived longer to, and many grew bigger because of it.
@@1974dormouse If you go back and check out What God said to Adam, death only came if he was disobedient. Being in God's image He would have wanted to keep humans around forever. I agree that the atmosphere had a part to play, but the deteriorating life span of following generations and Jesus and others in the Bible citing Adam's sin and fatherhood of us proves that there is a genetic component to it. One example being that currently close relatives cannot procreate, where as for some time post flood they could without worry of retardation.

Check out the apocrypha book: bell & the dragon. Its a continuation on the book of Daniel and was actually canon until the 1860's. The second half of the story is told in a way assumes the reader understands what dragons are as if they were commonplace.

The part in the Bible about Nephilim , I have a different theory for. It's not a complete full paragraph. What if Nephilim is what they called giant Lizards? Adam and Eve were the second couple. Eve was his second wife. Also how could they both be perfect if they were made differently? Eve being made from Adam’s rib and not from the earth as Adam was said to be made from along with his first wife. That would also mean that she, Lilith was perfect.

This is only my opinion on why I think people lived to be 900 + years back in thoses days. The reason i believe people live to be 900 plus years back in thoses days is because there was no pollution, smog, chemicals, in the air and land and sea back in thoses days. The air was clean and Pure. I'm thinking that a 900 year old properly looked like an 70+ or 80+ year old. I do believe that the flood was not a full world scope flood... I believe it was regional... And of course every society is going to deal with regional floods so there's always going to be reports of floods throughout ancient history...

I have a scale theory that there's always something bigger the difference in size between us and ants are 576 times smaller and in my opinion the titans were roughly 576 times larger than us which would put them roughly about the size of a 3000 ft mtn.... If you had beings that were 3000 ft tall they would be dwarfed by the silicon trees that were roughly 20000 - 65000 ft tall however they would have been able to cut those trees down with a massive machine.... My scale theory also would explain life expectancy an ant might live A couple months versus a human that will live on average about 78 years so with my scale theory that would explain why these Titans or Kings of old lived 28000 years because as larger beings they would have live longer obviously.... But the theory is in comparison from a human to an ant and a human to a Titan....

The Enuma Elish is superficially similar but content wise plot wise totally not. The OT was written down in different times. The Pentateuch in Moses Times. Later Judges Kings and Prophets were added. The OT was more or less finished in 3rd century BC.
The differences between the Bible and the other accounts are fundamental, the Bible is also the only book part of a living tradition that goes back to the Antediluvian period all the other once are broken.

The lifespan increase was due to the pre daluvian atmosphere of earth having benefitted from an additional layer of upper atmosphere that's no longer present. It was comprised of water and the flood event was when the water shell was lost by falling to the earth. While still in place the water layer did two things. It's weight pressed in via gravity causing a higher air pressure upon Earth's surface. This made a hyperbaric effect on humans and other living things that increased transpiration pressure and oxygen intake in the lungs. This first factor of two contributed to why - with constant higher gas intake - both animal O2 and plant CO2 - the creatures and fauna also grew much bigger and lived longer. The second and possibly more important factor is that the water layer served as very effective diffusing and shielding barrier against the constant solar and cosmic ray bombardment thus reducing one of the primary life degrading environmental factors.
Followed by stress, radiation is considered the most negative factor effecting life span.

Around 7,000 BCE, the Mediterranean Sea levels rose, flooding coastal land. I think each and everyone of us already know the answers to the mystery of the past but blocked this knowledge in our subconscious or it is blocked for us .
All of those awe inspiring things that are described in ancient literature , traditions and also in art depictions are true or at least close .
These are even the inspiration of the fairy tales of modern folklore , containing even deeper phycological and metaphorical truths with emphasis on moral and spiritual growth and knowledge .
I believe the reason for this is that humanity has a tendency to develop at a much quicker rate in knowledge of the physical world without consideration of the growth of moral and spiritual awareness needed to guide us in regards to physical knowledge a good example being the creation of nuclear weaponry or the advent of AI .

There's endless evidence of the Biblical account being accurate. Statistical retroactive population growth leads to it. Fossilization leads to it. Sunken cities, fossilized shellfish atop the highest mountains, it's endless. Geo strata is misinterpreted and no way to date bones. It's why even recently after finding certain dinosaur species in completely separate strata from where they were first found is not because the dinosaur species survived across eons. It's because the flood sediments settled into strata just like 6 different types of soil do after shaking them in a jar. Highly mineralized moving water full of sediments caused the fossilizations. It's how the canyons were cut as well. Look up how Spirit Lake canyon formed in the days after Mt. St Helens blew....and look at the fossilized tree forest that formed rapidly at the lake bottom as well. These are seeable, touchable, and directly observable examples of science.
